FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

A PLEASANT, MOSTLY SUNNY DAY

After a cool start this morning, plenty of sunshine lead the way to a quick warm up this morning. As we continue on through the day, you can expect mostly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 80s. If you are headed to the beaches we could even have a few of those coastal locations hang on the the upper 70s for afternoon highs. Though we will see some clouds, overall, today can be described as mostly sunny. There will be light and variable breezes that turn on shore with the afternoon sea breeze today.

For tonight, you can expect the mild weather to continue with lows dropping into the low to mid 60s by morning.

Through the rest of the week, there are no storm systems headed our way. There will be a continued mix of sun and clouds with periods that have more sun and periods that have more clouds. We are looking at a trend of gradually warming things up and even adding back some humidity be the end of the week. In fact, we'll finish out the week with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the upper 60s. Return to index of stories...

SOMETIMES PACKAGED PRODUCTS CAN MAKE OTHERWISE HEALTHY FOODS - NOT-SO-HEALTHY.

AS BOB HANSEN REPORTS, WE SHOULD LOOK TO LABELS IF WE WANT SNACKS THAT ARE ACTUALLY GOOD FOR US. Return to index of stories...

GOOD FOOD GONE BAD-PKG

TAKING A TRIP TO GROCERY STORE CAN BE CONFUSING AT TIMES, ESPECIALLY

WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO EAT HEALTHY. EVERYTHING LOOKS GOOD BUT.

"it's organic, it's healthy, it's gmo free, all that stuff, but the problem is, it just has way too many calories."

DIET DOCTOR KEN FUJIOKA SAYS YOU NEED TO READ THE LABLES TO KNOW

EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE GETTING THESE DAYS. YOU CAN EVEN GET TOO MUCH OF A

GOOD THING.

"when you take things like fruit and you grind them up

and concentrate them, you're actually making a high

fructose syrup."

AIR-POPPED POPCORN IS ONE OF THE HEALTHIEST SNACKS AROUND, FULL OF FIBER AND

LOW IN CALORIES.

"but the minute you soup it up, with sugar, with salt, with cheese, that's

when you run into a problem and you take a healthy snack and you render

it unhealthy."

"now peanut butter is one of those good for you kind of

foods, it's loaded with peanuts and protein. but then jif

has come out with a chocolate hazelnut spread they

want you to put on your bread. look at the ingredients,

it's mostly sugar and oil, and far less protein than the

peanut butter."

"most of the time taking fruit and putting a little big of

peanut butter on it, that's fine, but when you're putting

on spoonful's, you get a lot of calories."

WHITE TURKEY AND CHICKEN MEAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST SOURCES OF LOW-FAT

PROTEIN. BUT IF YOU BUY IT PACKAGED, LIKE THIS OSCAR MAYER OVEN ROASTED

TURKEY BREAST, WATCH FOR ADDED SODIUM. JUST TWO OUNCES HAS 510

MILLIGRAMS - 21 PERCENT OF THE DAILY LIMIT.

LOWFAT YOGURT IS ANOTHER HEALTHFUL FOOD. BUT LOOK OUT IF IT'S TOPPED WITH

CHOCOLATE BALLS OR COOKIE CRUMBLES. THIS YOGURT HAS 26 GRAMS OF SUGAR AND

6 GRAMS OF FAT.

"yogurt is incredibly healthy but when you start adding

in granola that's high in sugar, things like that, you

really create a problem."

AND BEWARE OF PACKAGED SMOOTHIES, EVEN IF THEY MAKE LOTS OF HEALTHY

CLAIMS.

"this is what it's called. but this is what it is. when you read the nutrition

facts label you find out it actually is about 500 calories per bottle, and 34

grams of sugar!"

IN MANY CASES, YOU'RE BETTER OFF MAKING YOUR OWN SMOOTHIES, OR

TOPPING YOUR YOGURT WITH FRESH FRUIT. YOU CAN CONTROL THE SUGAR A ND KEEP

THOSE FOODS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD FOR YOU … GOOD FOR YOU. Return to index of stories...

GOOD FOOD GONE BAD-2 SHOT CG

ANOTHER PRODUCT THAT CAN CONTAIN HIDDEN SUGAR IS SALAD DRESSING.

SOME BRANDS PACK AS MUCH AS 9 GRAMS PER SERVING.

EXPERTS SUGGEST NO MORE THAN 2 GRAMS OF SUGAR PER 2-TABLESPOON SERVING.

AND FOR SMOOTHIES -- IT'S BEST TO JUST MAKE IT YOURSELF.

ONE MORE TIP.

VINEGAR, OLIVE OIL AND SODIUM-FREE SEASONING MAKES A HEALTHY DRESSING. Return to index of stories...

EAT MORE VEGGIES-PKG

MOM ALWAYS SAID EAT YOUR VEGGIES. AND NOW IT'S NOT JUST FIVE FRUITS A VEGGIES A DAY.

A NEW STUDY SAYS GETTING SEVEN OR MORE CAN PROLONG YOUR LIFE, AND IT SAYS VEGETABLES ARE BETTER THAN FRUIT.

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA MEDICAL CENTER REGISTERED DIETITIAN ANGELA MOEDING.

"The study was showing that getting more phyto-nutrients fiber and antioxidants from vegetables which are lower calorie lower sugar are more beneficial."

RESEARCHERS AT UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON SAY EATING SEVEN SERVINGS VEGETABLES AND FRUIT A DAY DECREASES YOUR RISK OF DEATH, FROM A NUMBER OF DISEASES, BY 42%. COMPARED WITH THOSE EATING ONE SERVING OR LESS.

WHILE SEVEN SERVINGS OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES MAY SOUND POSSIBLE. WHAT EXACTLY WOULD IT TAKE TO GET SEVEN VEGGIES A DAY?

"So this would be an example of seven servings of vegetables for one day."

Portion sizes may be smaller than you think. A serving of vegetables would be a ½ cup of cooked vegetables like this broccoli, about a cup of raw vegetables or two cups of leafy greens."

MOEDING SAYS GETTING A VARIETY OF COLOR, THEN HIDE VEGETABLES IN OMELETS, MEAT LOAF, SOUPS. HAVE A SALAD FOR LUNCH. SO DOES MOEDING GET SEVEN SERVINGS OF VEGETABLES A DAY?

"Probably not seven. I try to but I do sneak a lot into my family's diet as much as I can and nobody's perfect even dietitians." Return to index of stories...

AEREO SCOTUS-TRX VO PLASMA

IN WASHINGTON TODAY,

THE U-S SUPREME COURT HEARS A CASE THAT COULD AFFECT HOW YOU WATCH T-V, AND *WHERE.

TRACIE POTTS EXPLAINS. Return to index of stories...

AEREO SCOTUS-PKG

RIGHT NOW, TO WATCH THE MAJOR NETWORKS YOU EITHER HAVE TO CATCH IT LIVE

OR RECORD IT ON A D-V-R, OFTEN RENTED FROM A CABLE OR SATELLITE PROVIDER.

NOW THERE'S AEREO:

nats - Aereo ad

".bringing live broadcast TV to the Internet wherever and whenever we want it."

sot - John Hane, Communications Law:11-:16

"This is piracy."

"You're picking up copyrighted content - that somebody else spent a lot of money to develop."

BROADCASTERS AGREE, AND THEY WANT THE SUPREME COURT TO DECIDE.

BUT AEREO ARGUES THEY'RE NOT STEALING PROGRAMMING - THEY'RE JUST RENTING THOUSANDS OF TINY ANTENNAS TO CONSUMERS,

WHO DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES WHEN, WHERE, AND WHAT TO WATCH.

sot - Mark Cooper, Consumer Federation of America:40-:48

"And if they can pull the service down, which is so carefully designed to be legal, you'll have a spate of lawsuits about any cloud storage of any content."

IT'S A CASE ABOUT MONEY, TOO.

BROADCASTERS CHARGE CABLE AND SATELLITE PROVIDERS BIG BUCKS TO REBROADCAST PROGRAMS.

AEREO PAYS NOTHING - AND CHARGES CONSUMERS AS LITTLE AS EIGHT DOLLARS A MONTH.
