FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

It's been a warm, sun-filled afternoon across Southwest Florida, and we'll keep adding to the warmth in the days ahead.

After spending the afternoon in the low to mid 80s, temperatures will drop into the mid 70s by sunset and then eventually settle into the mid 60s by early Thursday morning.

We may see some thin layers of fog forming during the pre-dawn hours Thursday, but visibility shouldn't be too bad as we get our Thursday started.

We're in store for another mostly sunny and warm day tomorrow with daytime temperatures getting a bit of a boost, topping out in the mid to upper 80s.

The cooler spots will be along the coast, and the warmest locations will be deeper inland where temperatures reach 87-89 degrees.

Rain chances will stay pretty low again Thursday afternoon, but it's possible to see an isolated shower over the interior close to Lake Okeechobee.

From Friday into the upcoming weekend, the warm weather rolls along; daytime highs will be approaching 90 degrees during the afternoon, and humidity levels will also be on the rise.

We won't the next decent chance of rain until the middle of next week when the next front approaches Southwest Florida. Return to index of stories...

"So far we don't know too much, but we do know that a beach-goer found something washed ashore."

IN AUGUSTA, WHICH IS ABOUT THREE AND A HALF HOURS SOUTH OF PERTH, AUSTRALIA, WHERE WE'RE STANDING RIGHT NOW.

WE BELIEVE IT TO BE A PIECE OF SHEET METAL WITH RIVETS IN IT.

NOW THEY TURNED IT INTO LOCAL POLICE, AND THE LOCAL POLICE HAVE SENT PICTURES OF IT TO THE PROPER AUTHORITIES IN BOTH MALAYSIA AND AUSTRALIA.

"They're reviewing those right now. The chief of the ATSB says it is interesting enough to warrant further review and further analysis, but he did say the more they're looking at it the less interesting it is becoming."

NOW THE CURRENTS WASHING ASHORE SOMETHING IN THAT AREA IS NOT SOMETHING ENTIRELY UNLIKELY.

EXPERTS SAY THAT COULD HAPPEN.

IT'S THE SOUTHERNMOST POINT IN AUSTRALIA DOWN THERE IN AUGUSTA.

IT'S WHERE THE INDIAN OCEAN AND THE SOUTHERN OCEAN MEET.

REMEMBER THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER IN THE PAST SIX WEEKS, EVEN A CYCLONE.

SO IT WOULDN'T BE UNLIKELY OR UNHEARD OF FOR IT TO WASH ASHORE THERE.

IT IS UNUSUAL THOUGH THAT IT'S THE ONLY PIECE OF POTENTIAL WRECKAGE THAT ANYONE'S SEEN SO FAR.

"If it is confirmed to be part of MH370 you would imagine that they would step up their search of the shore-line of Australia to see if anything else may have washed ashore. POLICE SAID IT HAD ALL THE SIGNS OF A CRIME THEY'D SEEN TOO OFTEN.

A DRIVER, EAST BOUND ON I-70, SWERVING FROM THE RUMBLE STRIP TO THE NEXT LANE OVER.

"The driver was having a difficult time maintaing a single lane."

BUT WHEN A FOREST HILL OFFICER PULLED OVER THE SILVER TRUCK AROUND EIGHT SATURDAY NIGHT IT WASN'T THE DRIVER WHO THEY SAY WAS DRUNK BUT HIS DAD. POLICE SAY DAVID MONEYHAM SPENT THE DAY WATCHING HIS SON PLAY BASEBALL AT THE BRIDGETON ATHLETIC COMPLEX IN NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY. AND THEY SAY HE APPARENTLY HAD ENOUGH TO DRINK TO NEARLY DOUBLE THE LEGAL LIMIT TO DRIVE.

SO INSTEAD OF DRIVING THEY SAY HE HANDED THE KEYS TO HIS 13 YEAR-OLD SON, WHO TURNED A 30 MILE TRIP INTO 45 AFTER MISSING MULTIPLE EXITS ALONG A BUSY INTERSTATE 70.

THEY CHARGED MOONEYHAM WITH ENDANGERING A CHILD AND ALLOWING AN UNLICENSED DRIVER BEHIND THE WHEEL, BOTH MISDEAMEANORS AND BOTH INADEQUATE FOR THE CRIME SAYS THE CHIEF.

" I believe it's a very dangerous situation with the traffic flow on interstate 70. An inexperienced, totally inexperienced driver who told us this had been the first time he'd ever been behind the wheel of a vehicle, we could have had a serious incident anywhere out there. Could have been a fatality with multiple vehicles.

the boy's father, 46-year old david mooneyham, is charged with misdemeanor child endangerment.

investigators say he was drinking at his son's little league game in bridgeton.

With a blood alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit to drive, they say he told his 13 year old to drive them home.

But police say not only was it illegal, but dangerous.

They say an officer pulled the pair over because the boy was swerving on I-70. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS-ONCAM

WE ALWAYS HEAR HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO PUT THE SO CALLED SUPER FOODS ON TEH TOP OF OUR LIST OF FOODS TO EATH.

OMEGA THREES, FOUND IN FOODS LIKE FISH AND NUTS, ARE TOUTED FOR THEIR HEART HEALTHY BENEFITS.

BUT AS AMY OSHIER REPORTS IN TODAYS HEALTH MATTERS, A NEW STUDY FINDS THEY MAY NOT BE AS BENEFICIAL AS FIRST THOUGHT. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS-PKG

SUPER FOODS ALWAYS SEEM TO GENERATE SUPER BUZZ-WHEN SOMETHING IS MENTIONED FOR HEALTH BENEFITS, PEOPLE ARE HUNGRY TO KNOW MORE.

DR. BRIAN TASCHNER/CARDIOLGOIST

RUNS:

:33 A lot of these super foods we hear time and again, come up in the media as foods that are beneficial in one way or another to someone's health. A lot of the things we hear re-occurrently are Omega 3s which come from the fatty fish as well as plant based sources.

Nutritional guidelines ENCOURAGE low intake of saturated fats AND high consumption of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids from fish, NUTS AND plant sources as a way to improve cardiovascular health.

DR. BRIAN TASCHNER/CARDIOLGOIST

RUNS:

1:54 The fish oils are felt to have an anti inflammatory benefit, they're also felt to have a blood thinning benefit as well as vasodilating properties. So they help to dilate the blood vessels and lower the blood pressure. They also favorable influence the cholesterol profile.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

The American College of Cardiology recently took a closer look at dozens of studies on the impact of Omega 3. It found mixed results based in part on studies which included self-reporting of health benefits. But the overall takeaway is that Omega 3 in it's natural form may have benefits, while supplements were not proven to have the same effect.

IN THEORY THEY SHOULD BEHAVE THE SAME, IT'S THOUGHT THAT CONCENTRATED SUPPLEMENTS ARE DISTRIBUTED FASTER THAN THE SLOW DISPERSAL OF NATURAL FOOD. EITHER WAY- EXPERTS STILL SUPPORT THEIR SUPERSTAR.

DR. BRIAN TASCHNER/CARDIOLGOIST

RUNS:

4:59 For many of my patients I think there's certainly benefit.

SO YOU CAN STILL TAKE YOUR FATTY FISH AND NUTS TO HEART. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

INVESTIGATORS SAY THE NEARLY 7-THOUSAND TON SHIP SANK IN ABOUT TWO AND A HALF HOURS.

476 PEOPLE WERE INSIDE WHEN A BOY ON BOARD MADE THE FIRST CALL FOR HELP AT 8:52 AM LOCAL TIME.

THE SHIP'S CREW MADE A DISTRESS ABOUT THREE MINUTES LATER AT 8:55.

THE CREW'S RESPONSE IS CRITICAL TO PREVENTING DISASTER.

IN THIS SCENARIO. WATER IS RUSHING IN FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE.

FLORES: Water is starting to rise, what do you do?

DONLON: Mainly just get away from the damage. Get outside, let the crew know if you did find damage, make sure the crew knows about it.

THEY USE ANYTHING THEY CAN TO PLUG THE HOLES.

FLORES: How much time do you have to assess the situation and water just starts gushing in?

DONLON: It all depends on the scenario. the deeper the hole the more water pressure is pushing in.

FLORES: If I'm a passenger that's on a ship and I'm not very familiar with the ship what should I do to get to safety?

DONLON: the best thing to do is follow the walls. follow them and get to get outside.
