KEVIN ROWSON HAS THE STORY. Return to index of stories...

SCHOOL ABUSE CAUGHT ON TAPE-PKG

IT IS ABUSE THAT IS VERY HARD TO WATCH.

A TEACHER'S ASSISTANT PUTS A SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENT IN A CHOKE HOLD, ACCORDING TO AN ATTORNEY REPRESENTING THE CHILD.

"Now what I want you to notice is his feet lift up off the ground.

THEN AFTER THE STUDENT KNOCKS OVER A WATER BOTTLE.THE ADULT HITS THE CHILD ONCE. KNOCKING HIM OUT OF HIS CHAIR.

THEN A SECOND TIME. THEN A THIRD. AGAIN KNOCKING THE CHILD OUT OF HIS CHAIR.

THE ADULT, ALGER COLEMAN, HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH CRUELTY TO CHILDREN AND SIMPLE BATTERY.

IN THE SAME CLASS ROOM A PARA PRO ROUGHLY PICKS ANOTHER SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENT OFF THE FLOOR AND HITS HIM. DRAGS HIM ACROSS THE ROOM. AND THROWS HIM ONTO A MAT IN THE CORNER.

HIS MOTHER WATCHED THE VIDEO IN HORROR.

"It's really hard because I cant trust no one pretty much and I feel like I was, that the Atlanta Public Schools failed me."

THE SAME PARA PRO, KEISHA SMITH, GRABBED ANOTHER STUDENT BY HIS COLLAR AND WRESTLED HIM BACK TO HIS SEAT.

SMITH HAS NOT BEEN CHARGED BUT THE SCHOOL SYSTEM SAYS SHE HAS BEEN RE-ASSIGNED PENDING A DISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE.

THE ALLEGED ABUSE ALL CAME TO LIGHT AFTER A TEACHER IN THE CLASSROOM WENT TO POLICE WITH THE VIDEO SHE SAYS SHE RECORDED BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T GET ANY ANSWERS FROM SCHOOL OFFICIALS.

SHE DID NOT WANT TO BE IDENTIFIED.

"They would basically just blatantly lie and turn it around and say, no, you know, we don't know what she's talking about, it's her that's not doing what she's supposed to do in the classroom." Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"A quiet week of weather"

"Mainly dry weather is expected warming temps through the weekend"

As we progress through the rest of the week, we'll continue to see a mainly dry pattern with warming temperatures through the weekend.

As we head into the evening hours, expect mostly clear skies and temperatures falling into the middle 70s. As winds go relatively calm overnight, patchy fog may develop once again by early tomorrow morning.

We'll start our Thursday with temperatures in the middle 60s, with highs forecast to climb into the middle 80s during the afternoon. Mostly to partly sunny skies will prevail and humidity levels will stay rather pleasant for this time of year. The remnants of a weak cool front combined with a ripple of energy in the upper atmosphere means a few more clouds across our skies and a very small window of opportunity for a stray afternoon shower across our inland communities.

For Friday and beyond, high pressure will continue to dominate our weather pattern keeping our rain prospects very low. Temperatures will get a big boost into the upper 80s, while inland spots reach the lower 90s with increasing humidity. Our next chance for rain arrives Wednesday and into early Thursday of next week.
