FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

!!!!NEED WX ANCHOR CG!!!!!

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

MAINLY SUNNY AND WARMER

The warm, sunny weather will continue today. We start with mild temperatures and some patchy fog this morning, but we will quickly start warming up and the fog will mix out once the sun comes up. Afternoon high temperatures are headed into the mid 80s with lower 80s expected on the beaches and upper 80s in those deep inland warm spots. Winds will be light and variable through the morning, turning onshore this afternoon at around 10 mph. Rain chances will stay low, but a stray shower deep inland near Lake Okeechobee can't be ruled out.

For tomorrow on through the weekend, mostly sunny skies will continue and temperatures will continue to climb just a bit each day. Humidity will also be on the rise through the weekend.

If you are waiting for our next rain chance to come our way, you'll have to wait until the middle of next week when a cold front approaches our area. Return to index of stories...

PEDICURE GONE TOO FAR-PKG

"Is he really doing what I think he is?"

THAT'S WHAT LAWANDA WARREN SAYS SHE WAS THINKING WHEN SHE GOT HER FIRST AND PROBABLY LAST PEDICURE AT STYLE NAILS IN SHREVEPORT.

"He kept going back and forth."

SHE SAYS THIS CELL VIDEO SHOWS A MALE NAIL TECH CROSSING THE LINE WHEN HE STARTED MASSAGING HER LEGS.

"The massage kind of got weird, because he went up my legs. He kept going up and up and, then, he was up under the towel. You know, just groping my thighs."

.AND THAT'S WHEN SHE SAID SHE PULLED OUT HER CELL PHONE TO CATCH HIM IN ACTION.

".but I don't do more than here."

.but Nail Tech Huey Tran says he didn't do anything wrong.we showed him the cell phone video.

"I pull the towel for her, you know, and that's it. We done."

.AND HE SAYS THE VIDEO SHOWS WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN WHEN A CUSTOMER WEARS A DRESS: A TOWEL COVERING HER LEGS AND A QUICK LEG MASSAGE.

CUSTOMER KAREN EMERSON SAYS AFTER NINE YEARS OF PEDICURES FROM HUEY SHE SAYS SHE'S NEVER HAD AN ISSUE.

"I always wear pants, but if anybody came in with a skirt or a dress on, he would put a towel across their knees, and that's as far as they've ever gone."

BUT LAWANDA SAYS HER PEDICURE WENT FURTHER.

"It made me feel ashamed. It just bothered me the whole weekend."

.ALLEGATIONS THE SHOP OWNER IS NOT TAKING LIGHTLY.

"I have my lawyer. I sue her the moment she do something wrong." Return to index of stories...

LIGHTBULB DISPOSAL-ONCAM

YOU'VE HEARD ABOUT INCANDESCENT BULBS BEING PHASED OUT --

AND BEING REPLACED WITH ENERGY-EFFICIENT LIGHTS.

WE'VE GOT A FEW THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW.

LYNDA BAQUERO HAS THE STORY. Return to index of stories...

LIGHTBULB DISPOSAL-PKG

"Those are the lightbulbs that are only $9.98"

AT LOWE'S.MANAGER ALEX SHAMIN SHOWED US THE ARRAY OF CHOICES FOR ENERGY-EFFICIENT LIGHT.

"Every day we get more and more people asking please tell us the difference between CFL's, incandescents, LED's."

AS DEMAND GROWS, ALEX SAYS PRICES ARE GOING DOWN.

"Last week Lowe's came out with new LED lightbulb and it's only $4.98"

BUT SHOPPING FOR THESE BULBS CAN BE CONFUSING.

BRITTNEY GORDON IS WITH THE GOVERNMENT-BACKED ENERGY STAR PROGRAM.RATING ENERGY EFFICIENCY. SHE SAYS THEIR LABEL IS AIMED AT HELPING CONSUMERS CHOOSE THE RIGHT BULB FOR THEM.

"Energy Star requires that the wattage equivalency is right on the pkg. so if you're used to a sixty-watt, this one will tell you even though it's only using twelve watts, it's the same as sixty watts"

AND WHILE COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHTBULBS-- OR CFL'S-- LAST ABOUT NINE YEARS ON AVERAGE.

L-E-D'S CAN LAST AS MANY AS TWENTY YEARS!!

WHEN IT DOES COME TIME TO DISPOSE OF THEM-- LED'S CAN BE THROWN OUT WITH THE REGULAR TRASH.BUT BE CAREFUL WITH C-F-L'S.

WHAT IF THE CFL LIGHTBULB BREAKS? WHAT IS THE CONCERN ABOUT THE MERCURY IN THE BULB? "there is a small amount of mercury in a CFL bulb."

ACCORDING TO THE U-S ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, IF THE BULB BREAKS:

AIR OUT THE ROOM FOR FIVE TO TEN MINUTES.

USE A DAMP CLOTH TO CLEAN UP THE PIECES.

DO NOT VACUUM, WHICH MIGHT SPREAD THE DUST.

PUT THE MATERIAL INTO A PLASTIC BAG, TIE IT AND PLACE IT OUTDOORS OR BRING IT TO A RECYCLING CENTER

"We like to encourage people to recycle and the great thing about stores like this Lowe's is that they have bins right on the premises where you can dispose of your bulb" Return to index of stories...

CITRUS SHORTAGE-2 SHOT PUSH

NOW TO A STORY MAKING NATIONAL HEADLINES TODAY --

FLORIDA'S CITRUS CROP IS FACING A HUGE THREAT.

THE PROBLEM IS A TINY INSECT THAT'S KILLING OFF THE FRUIT IN RECORD AMOUNTS.

WE GET MORE ON THIS FROM NBC'S MARK POTTER. Return to index of stories...

CITRUS SHORTAGE-PKG

Florida farmers are throwing everything they've got into a desperate attempt to keep their citrus trees ALIVE.

But, they are LOSING the battle against a deadly disease discovered here nine years ago.that now threatens the ENTIRE industry.

The threatening disease is known as "citrus greening," carried by a tiny insect known as the Asian citrus psyllid.

Because of it, the Florida orange crop this year is expected to be the lowest in THIRTY YEARS.

In just the last two years, the number of oranges produced has plummeted by about a quarter.from 146-thousand boxes to a projected 110-thousand boxes.

Drastically smaller orange harvests NOW. could mean higher orange juice PRICES later this year.

The orange has long been THE symbol of Florida.and citrus is a nine-BILLION dollar industry supporting 76-thousand jobs.

Veteran grove manager Billy Teal says he's NEVER seen a disease THIS destructive.

At a USDA lab in Ft. Pierce, Florida, scientists are working all hours to try to find a cure.

In the short term, they're trying 112 degree heat tents to kill the insects.and IV injections of antibiotics and insecticides.

Meanwhile, the disease has now SPREAD to six other southern states.but is the darkest threat to the Sunshine State.

WEATHER-WX WALL

!!!NEED WX ANCHOR CG!!!

The best joint implant put in by even a top surgeon is only as good as you make it. Following rehab, patients are encouraged to make lifestyle changes to get the most out of their new joint.

DR. CHARLES SPRINGER

RUNS:

1:46 If you continue to carry excessive weight what you're doing is risking premature wear of the implant, loosening the implant. Patients that are obese have clear cut, higher complication rates around the time of surgery.

IT'S IMPORTANT TO STAY ACTIVE AND ADOPT A HEALTHY DIET. JUDY SET GOALS FOR HERSELF TO SIDESTEP FUTURE PROBLEMS.
