FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

MAINLY SUNNY AND WARMER

The warm, sunny weather will continue today. We start with mild temperatures and some patchy fog this morning, but we will quickly start warming up and the fog will mix out once the sun comes up. Afternoon high temperatures are headed into the mid 80s with lower 80s expected on the beaches and upper 80s in those deep inland warm spots. Winds will be light and variable through the morning, turning onshore this afternoon at around 10 mph. Rain chances will stay low, but a stray shower deep inland near Lake Okeechobee can't be ruled out.

For tomorrow on through the weekend, mostly sunny skies will continue and temperatures will continue to climb just a bit each day. Humidity will also be on the rise through the weekend.

If you are waiting for our next rain chance to come our way, you'll have to wait until the middle of next week when a cold front approaches our area. Return to index of stories...

STOCKS CONTINUE TO CHARGE HIGHER, TRADING AT ALL-TIME HIGHS IN THE ABSENCE OF ANY MATERIAL CORRECTION IN MARKETS OVER TWO YEARS.

NICK CHLUMSKY IS HERE FROM THE NOLTE WEALTH MANAGEMENT GROUP TO TALK ABOUT A STRATEGY OUR VIEWERS CAN CONSIDER, TO PARTICIPATE IN MARKET GAINS, BUT ALSO REDUCE THE DOWNSIDE RISK.

NICK? Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLASMA CG

Well first, it is nice to see markets at all-time highs again but I think it's important to note that we really haven't made much progress in the first four months of the year and we're now entering what's historically been the 'worst six months' of the year for markets and hence investors. I think year to date, the S&P500 has returned a little less than one and a half percent. On Tuesday, I know Jim talked about the B word or a bubble in the context of the markets, but we still feel the markets are fairly valued here. That doesn't mean, of course, that markets might not go lower or even possibly see a correction before they go higher.

· And for you folks out there that are nearing retirement, just entered retirement, or have been retired a couple of years, you know that these are the years where a sizable drop in the market and therefore a significant decrease in the value of your portfolio can have a significant and negative impact on the amount of income you will be able to generate over the rest of your life. And although we believe the stock market will continue its journey higher from here, history does tell us that bull markets tend to top off around the five year mark and that's about where we are today.

· So, if you are concerned about a potential correction in the markets, consider a bucket approach to your retirement investment plan with a tactical twist. The bucket strategy is pretty simple. It's basically dividing your assets into different categories based on your time horizon and risk tolerance to make sure you have a steady and reliable source of income throughout retirement. So that might mean that a portion of your portfolio is in safe and secure assets for income needed in the next twelve months, part of the portfolio is in lower risk assets generating income for the intermediate term, and then some assets are in moderate risk assets to grow the overall portfolio over time to fight off the effects of inflation.

· Now the tactical twist of the strategy involves investing in securities or funds where the investment manager or advisor can change the allocation of your investments among cash, fixed income, and equities depending on what's going on in the economy and the markets. It's not about market timing but it is about following patterns and trends. It's about having the flexibility to move things around in your portfolio to effectively protect principal and minimize risk.

· Many of you will spend 30 years in retirement which means you and your retirement nest egg might have to endure five to six recessions. Make sure your retirement assets are not only working hard for you but that they are managed in such a way to weather the effects of recessions and market downturns.

· Return to index of stories...

AN NBC2 UPDATE HERE -

LAST WEEK WE TOLD YOU HOW THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT IS CONSIDERING A DRESS CODE FOR PARENTS PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF THEIR KIDS AT SCHOOL.

NOW WE'VE LEARN THIS IS NOT THE ONLY DISTRICT LOOKING TO MAKE PARENTS COVER UP.

NBC'S KERRY SANDERS REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

DRESS CODE PARENTS-PKG

SOT kerry with parent LENORE DIRIENZO

kerry: "The school board is thinking about dress codes, what do you think about dress codes?

parent: I love dress codes.

kerry: What about dress codes for parents?

parent: OHHHHH.uhh.

DRESS CODES FOR KIDS AT SCHOOL - SURE - BUT FOR PARENTS????

SOT: PAT JAMES

parent: To tell the parents how to dress? to come to pick their kids up?

.NOT SO MUCH.

IT ALL STARTED IN BROWARD COUNTY, WHEN SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER ROSALIND OSGOOD GOT SICK OF SEEING PARENTS LOOKING SLOPPY.

SOT OSGOOD

"I want to heighten our awareness and take it to a whole 'nother level."

SOME OF THE BIGGEST OFFENSES: PARENTS IN RIPPED JEANS, LOW-CUT TOPS, SHORT SHORTS, WOMEN IN HAIR CURLERS. EVEN PARENTS WEARING PAJAMAS.

SOT-MOM IN CAR

LAURIE BLACKMER

"I don't like to see women's butt cheeks hanging out the bottom or men's boxers hanging out the shorts."

ALL OF WHICH PROMPTED OSGOOD TO CALL FOR A DRESS CODE FOR PARENTS.

SOT OSGOOD

"We have to make an adjustment because what we do has a major impact on our children."

BUT ON YOUTUBE, THE IDEA OF A DRESS CODE FOR PARENTS GOT SOME PEOPLE HOT UNDER THE COLLAR.

NATSOT from Youtube video

"You got to be kidding me, hey what about the respect for the parents? hmmm??

STILL, WORD SPREAD TO NEARBY PALM BEACH COUNTY, WHERE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS MET WITH PARENTS ON WEDNESDAY.

SOT Karen Brill at meeting

"Overwhelmingly I haven't had anybody say to me they were against this."

BUT THE ISSUE DIDN'T WEAR WELL WITH THE BOARD.

SOT: Marcia Andrews

"I want to make sure every school is inviting to parents and whatever they're wearing is secondary in my mind."

THE BOARD QUASHED THE PROPOSAL.

BUT IN THE END, IT MAY BE THE KIDS AT SCHOOL WHO RECOGNIZE ITS TIME FOR THE PARENTS TO LEARN A LESSON.

SOT-ASHLEY RUSSELL/EIGHTH GRADER

"They're coming to school with, like shorts and it's not ok, in shirts that are maybe too revealing/edit/like, why would you wear that? I mean, your kid has to look presentable, you have to look presentable too." Return to index of stories...

E CIGS-PLASMA

NBC2 TRACKING NEW DEVELOPMENTS ABOUT E-CIGARETTES.

THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION IS TAKING THE FIRST STEPS TOWARD REGULATING E-CIGARETTES, MUCH AS IT REGULATES TOBACCO PRODUCTS.

AND THAT COULD MAKE IT ILLEGAL FOR SOME PEOPLE TO GET THEIR HANDS ON THEM.

ERIKA EDWARDS REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

E CIGS-PKG

THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION HAS TAKEN ITS FIRST STEPS TOWARD REGULATING E-CIGARETTES.

. A BOOMING BUSINESS THAT'S QUICKLY GROWN INTO A 2-BILLION DOLLAR A YEAR INDUSTRY WITHOUT MUCH OVERSIGHT.

"Some have characterized it frankly as the wild, wild west."

THE F-D-A PROPOSAL WOULD REQUIRE MANUFACTURERS TO DISCLOSE THE INGREDIENTS OF THEIR PRODUCTS -- WHICH CONTAIN AT THE VERY LEAST. NICOTINE AND WATER. ALONG WITH ANY NUMBER OF OTHER, UNKNOWN CHEMICALS.

AN E-CIGARETTE INDUSTRY SPOKESMAN WELCOMES QUALITY CONTROL REGULATION OF LIQUID NICOTINE INGREDIENTS -- SAYING IT WOULD MAKE A BETTER, SAFER PRODUCT.

"You find companies now basically mixing this product in the back rooms of their shop and they don't have the proper settings to do so."

THE REGULATIONS WOULD PROHIBIT SALES TO KIDS UNDER AGE 18 - BUT DOES NOT HALT ONLINE SALES. TELEVISION ADVERTISING. OR FLAVORS SOME SAY ARE ATTRACTIVE TO CHILDREN.

"We are disappointed that the rules do not address these candy flavors like cookies and cream and pina colada which clearly appeal to youth."

E-CIGARETTES ARE BATTERY-POWERED DEVICES THAT USE WATER VAPOR TO DELIVER A HIT OF NICOTINE.

SOME SAY E-CIGARETTES CAN HELP PEOPLE QUIT TOBACCO -- BUT LACK OF SCIENTIFIC PROOF LEAVES MANY DOCTORS SKEPTICAL.

"I'm conflicted a little bit in that, I think there's a potential for significant benefit in their use, but I'm also worried about a significant harm that could happen, specifically to children."

THE F-D-A NEEDS INPUT FROM THE INDUSTRY AND PUBLIC BEFORE THE RULES ARE FINALIZED -- A PROCESS THAT COULD TAKE A YEAR.

THE BOY'S FATHER, ABDILAHI YUSUF ABDI SAYS HE LEARNED HIS SON WAS IN HAWAII WHEN OFFICIALS THERE CALLED HIM

MOHAMED OLAD, VOA: "They told him that they had his son there and they tried to explain to him about what happened."

ANOTHER POSSIBLE FACTOR IN THE SUDDEN, DANGEROUS DEPARTURE: THE BOY MISSED HIS FAMILY IN AFRICA.

EVEN SCHOOLMATES SENSED THE TEEN WAS HOMESICK.
