AT SOUTH KOREA'S PRESIDENTIAL RESIDENCE TODAY PRESIDENT OBAMA LED HIS SOUTH KOREAN HOSTS IN A MOMENT OF SILENCE.

AS A SHOW OF SOLIDARITY, PRESIDENT OBAMA OFFERED ITEMS OF REMEMBRANCE: THE U-S FLAG THAT FLEW OVER THE WHITE HOUSE THE DAY OF THE DISASTER -- AND A MAGNOLIA TREE FROM THE WHITE HOUSE SOUTH LAWN -- A SYMBOL OF RENEWAL -- TO BE PLANTED AT THE THE HIGH SCHOOL THAT LOST SO MANY STUDENTS.

"I'm a father of two daughters -- can only imagine what the parents are going through at this point."

THIS AFTERNOON, PRESIDENT OBAMA OFFERED THIS NEW WARNING IF RUSSIA DOESN'T DE-ESCALATE THE CRISIS IN UKRAINE.

"Is he going to use military force and the kind of de-stabilizing activities that we've seen so far? That's a choice that he's going to have to make, but we shouldn't make the choice easy for him."

EARLIER, HE LAID A WREATH AT SOUTH KOREA'S NATIONAL WAR MEMORIAL.

IN THIS REGION, THE UNPREDICTABILITY OF NORTH KOREA'S YOUNG DICTATOR -- SEEN HERE, SURROUNDED BY FEMALE SOLDIERS THIS WEEK-- POSES ITS OWN CONSTANT THREAT.

KOREAN LEADERS WARNING THE NORTH COULD CONDUCT ANOTHER NUCLEAR TEST TO COINCIDE WITH THE PRESIDENT'S VISIT.

KIM JONG UN REMAINS AN ENIGMA.

THAT'S WHY NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN PHOTOS FROM KIM'S CHILDHOOD REVEALED BY NORTH KOREAN STATE MEDIA JUST DAYS AGO DREW SO MUCH ATTENTION.

KIM SEONG MIN RISKED HIS LIFE DEFECTING FROM NORTH KOREA FIFTEEN YEARS AGO.

NOW, LIVING IN SEOUL, HE RUNS AN ANTI-NORTH KOREA RADIO STATION AND SECRETLY REMAINS IN CONTACT WITH A NETWORK OF DISSIDENTS TRAPPED INSIDE.

UNDER KIM JUNG UN, LIFE HASN'T GOTTEN BETTER, HE TOLD ME, FOR MANY PEOPLE THERE, IT HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE. THEY LIVE THEIR LIVES IN FEAR.

"On that topic President Obama said that North Korea isn't just a threat to this region, it is a threat to the U.S. as well. NEW RONALD MCDONALD-PKG

NAT SND

Call it a Mc-Makeover: Goodbye baggy jumpsuit, hello slim-cut cargo pants and vest. And for more formal occasions: a red blazer and bow tie.

NAT SND

What's not changing: Ronald McDonald's big red shoes--you don't mess with classics.

SOT McDondald's official talking about why they're doing the changes

It's his first new wardrobe in nine years, and comes after the company reported a fifth straight month of declining sales at its US outlets.

NAT SND

A big difference from his first appearance in 1963. By the way, recognize that voice? It's TODAY's very own Willard Scott.

In the fast food wars, analysts say you may re-dress a figure as iconic as Ronald, but never retire of him.

SOT

RONALD MCDONALD IS THEIR MICHAEL JORDAN, SO NO WAY DO YOU RETIRE/ YOUR STAR PLAYER, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE STAKES ARE SO HIGH. KEEP RONALD IN THE GAME

Shawn Prez's marketing clients include McDonald's, though not on the makeover, which has been years in the making. It's the product of a Broadway costume designer and comes as the fast-food icon's getting some trash talk from competitor Taco Bell--using real-life Ronald McDonald's.

NAT SND

To complete the update, McDonald's is tweeting Ronald's musings using the hashtag "RonaldMcDonald." But social media can be a double-edged sword:

"Just when you thought he couldn't be any creepier!"

said he looks like "a misguided, mid-life crisis dad."

"That"s what was missing, McD's--the taste in wardrobe." Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

A BEAUTIFUL SUNNY DAY

Things are looking great across Southwest Florid today. We'll continue to see lots of sunshine and temperatures will warm into the mid 80s this afternoon. Winds are picking up from the west this afternoon with gusts near 20 mph.

For your weekend plans, the heat and humidity will be increasing a bit each day. Highs through the weekend will be in the upper 80s with some hot spots hitting 90. We'll still see plenty of sunshine on Saturday with a few more clouds coming into view by Sunday. There are no good rain chances through the weekend.

Into next week, highs will be in the upper 80s to start the week with more humidity under partly cloudy skies. We could even get an isolated shower in the afternoons. Rain chances will increase late in the week as the next storm system headed our way. We'll finish with week with highs in the mid 80s. Return to index of stories...

"Heroin is the number one reason that we've seen this increase in the number of children in custody."

THE MOST COMMON USER: MOM.

"Our biggest problem here has been 20-38 year old women who are using heroin and have children, younger children."

JUVENILE PROBATE JUDGE TIM GRENDELL PUTS IT SIMPLY TO THESE PARENTS:

"If you want your children, you've got to give up the heroin. You've got to pick one or the other."

"The addiction becomes more important than the kids? It becomes more important than almost anything."

THE RISKS TO CHILDREN ARE WIDESPREAD: THE SECRETS OF DRUG ABUSE THEY MUST KEEP, THE CHANCE OF LOSING A PARENT TO OVERDOSE.

"It's always very heartbreaking to see that happen."

JUDGE GRENDELL'S FLIP PROGRAM HELPS PUT PARENTS IN REHABILITATION TREATMENT SOONER, WHEN IT IS MORE LIKELY TO WORK. BUT THE DRUG IS POTENT. THE RATE OF RELAPSE IS HIGH. THE RATE OF RECOVERY IS LOW.

AND WHILE THE SYSTEM SEEKS A FAMILY RELATED PLACEMENT FIRST, SOMETIMES THE DRUG PROBLEM IMPACTS EVEN OTHER RELATIVES - STRAINING FOSTER CARE.

"We are running out of families that are able to take the children that are coming into custody."

FUGITIVE FRIDAY-5 SS

We're starting off our list this week with a 25 year old convicted felon, who's been

dodging the long arm of the law for far too long. Michael Dunn is wanted for

violating terms of his drug offender probation in Lee County. Only a few months

into his five year probation sentence, Dunn wasted no time getting jumping into

the criminal element. With eight prior arrests as an adult under his belt, Dunn's

rap sheet lists several arrests for burglary, theft and drug possession, as well as

resisting arrest. Last known to be working as a land developer, Dunn is believed

to be hiding out in the central or downtown Fort Myers area, possibly using the

alias of Ryan Dunn. He stands tall at 6'2" and has tattoos of the words anarchy

on his left elbow, peace on his right elbow, and stars inked on his left hand.

And in Collier County, deputies are on the hunt for Freto St. Pierre, wanted for

failing to show up in court following an arrest for drug possession. Best known

on the streets as "Skee" or "Skilo," this 30 year old fugitive has a history of drug

use and abuse, as well as lying to police. Among his Collier arrests are several

charges of cocaine and marijuana possession, carrying a concealed weapon,

and repeatedly driving with a suspended license. He's also been jailed in Dade

County for grand theft auto, resisting arrest and violating his probation. St. Pierre

was last known to be living in Golden Gate, but also has connections to the Port

Charlotte area.

Also trying his best to lay low from the law this week is Travious Deshawn

Sutton, a criminal who's been peddling drugs on the streets of Fort Myers since

he was 17 years old. Now, at age 23, Sutton has already been designated as

a registered convicted felon and has racked up 10 arrests in Lee County on

charges including four counts of selling cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school,

two counts of resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license. He was also

arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and the possession of a

firearm by a convicted felon after threatening a neighbor at gunpoint over an on-

going dispute. In addition to his local charges, Sutton has also been jailed in

Cook County, Georgia, for the possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

And rounding out our list is Alexander Quinones, a 27 year old wanted for

failing to show up in court after being arrested for travelling from the east coast

to Naples to have an intimate rendezvous with someone he believed to be an 11

year old girl he met over the internet. Quinones was charged with three counts

of online solicitation of a minor, one count of travelling to meet a minor and one

count of seducing, soliciting or luring a child using a computer or online service.

Quinones communicated with a girl he knew as "Kayla" both online and through

text messages for several weeks before arranging to meet the young girl in

Naples to have sex. But when he arrived at the pre-set location, he quickly found

out that Kayla wasn't the 11 year old girl he intended to meet, but rather was an

adult detective with the Collier County Sheriff's Office. After his arrest, Quinones

was released, under the guise that he'd show back up in court - which he has

failed to do. Upon his arrest, Quinones will be held without bond. Return to index of stories...

RACIST RANCHER-TRX EBOX TOPS

HE WAS HAILED BY SOME AS A POPULIST HERO,

THE NEVADA RANCHER WHO RESISTED THE GOVERNMENT'S ATTEMPTS TO REMOVE HIS CATTLE FROM FEDERAL LANDS.

BUT NOW, CLIVEN BUNDY HAS UPSET A LOT OF PEOPLE OVER RACIST COMMENTS.

HERE'S MIKE TAIBBI WITH THE MUST SEE REPORT. Return to index of stories...

RACIST RANCHER-PKG

In the age of viral videos, everything happens quickly: Cliven Bundy's supporters, many of them armed, helped him hold off government attempts to seize his cattle that had been grazing on federal lands. though he owes more than a million in grazing fees and fines.

"WE'RE AFTER FREEDOM"/ "I DON'T RECOGNIZE THE U.S. GOVERNMENT AS EVEN EXISTING."

But now, not two weeks later, he's lost much of his freedom fighter's status in conservative circles with these comments about race.

"I WANT TO TELL YOU ONE MORE THING ABOUT THE NEGRO."

.comments first referenced in today's New York Times and now gone viral. about African Americans he saw outside a Las Vegas housing project.

"THEY ABORT THEIR YOUNG CHILDREN, THEY PUT THEIR YOUNG MEN IN JAIL, BECAUSE THEY NEVER LEARNED HOW TO PICK COTTON. I'VE OFTEN WONDERED, ARE THEY BETTER OFF AS SLAVES, PICKING COTTON AND HAVING A FAMILY LIFE AND DOING THINGS, OR ARE THEY BETTER OFF UNDER GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY?"

"THE FALLOUT HAS BEEN SWIFT.THE DISTANCE FROM HERO TO PARIAH TRAVELED AT THE SPEED OF THE INTERNET, STARTING WITH REACTION FROM SOME OF BUNDY'S MAJOR SUPPORTERS."

Senator Rand Paul called the comments 'racist and offensive'. Nevada Senator Dean Heller called them 'appalling.'

And conservative commentators on Fox News, who had supported Bundy's cause, were suddenly silent or openly critical.

Las Vegas Review Journal reporter Keith Rogers, who's followed Bundy's case for years, says the rancher has one logical move.

"I THINK BUNDY HAS TO LOOK INSIDE HIMSELF AND MAYBE/HE MIGHT BE A BIGGER MAN BY SAYING HE'S SORRY."

He did not apologize today, repeating his comments about race.

But while the dispute over grazing his cattle without paying fees isn't over.

"THE COURT HAS RULED HIS CATTLE ARE IN TRESPASS."

.his role as an unqualified anti-government hero. is. Mike Taibbi NBC News, Los Angeles. Return to index of stories...
