6:02 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

We're in store for ample sunshine over the weekend, and with all the sun comes increasing heat and humidity for Southwest Florida.

After starting off our Saturday morning in the mid to upper 60s, our temperatures will rise rapidly through the morning under wall-to-wall sunshine.

By midday, most of the area will be in the mid 80s, which will set up a fairly hot afternoon with daytime highs topping out in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Closer to the coast, temperatures should peak in the middle 80s thanks to the sea breeze, but as you go deeper inland, that's where we'll likely have some 90 degree readings.

Winds will stay fairly light today with the breeze coming in from the northwest at 5-10 mph.

Our sky will stay mainly sunny through the course of the day with only a few clouds developing.

The atmosphere as a whole is still fairly dry and stable, which will keep rain out of the forecast through the afternoon and evening.

Sunday will turn out to be another hot and mostly sunny day, but increasing moisture will lead to an uptick in humidity along with a slight chance for a few inland showers during the afternoon.

Sunday may even end up being our first 90 degree day of the year along the urban corridor of Southwest Florida.

As we head into next week, the heat and humidity continue, and we'll even add in some higher rain chances toward the end of the week.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

6:42 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

LIME DROUGHT PRICES-BUBBA

NOW TO A STORY AT 6:48 THAT MIGHT BE HARD TO BELIEVE.

BY WEIGHT, MEXICAN LIMES ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN A GALLON OF GAS IN MANY PARTS OF THE COUNTRY.

THIS MORNING, BOB HANSEN TELLS US -- ABOUT THE PRESSURES THAT SOME RESTAURANTS ARE FACING Return to index of stories...

LIME DROUGHT PRICES-PKG

ASK FOR A MARGARITA AT C-LEVEL RESTAURANT ON HARBOR ISLAND. AND YOU'LL GET YOUR LIME.

BUT ASK FOR WATER.

"If someone asks for a lime for their water, they're not getting a whole lime cut up as we were before, but we try to stick true to what our menu design is. So we just deal with it."

DEALING WITH TWO MONTHS OF SKYROCKETING PRICES, WHERE 25 CENTS LIMES ARE COSTING MORE THAN A DOLLAR A PIECE.

AND WITH CINCO DE MAYO JUST AROUND THE CORNER. THE DEMAND FOR LIMES IS GOING UP.

"A lot of people are using lemons in lieu of limes right now.

Well there are certain things that we want to keep limes on, and we just bite the bullet on that."

"I guess it depends on if that recipe really calls for it."

"It's too pricey for me."

A LIME SHORTAGE BLAMED ON WEATHER AND A LIMITED HARVEST IS TAKING A TOLL ON BOTH SHOPPERS AND GROCERS.

OVER IN THE PRODUCE DEPARTMENT AT STUMP'S FAMILY MARKET, THE LIMES ARE GREEN AND JUICY, BUT FEW PEOPLE ARE BUYING.

"I glanced at the price and said, "wow you can buy boneless, skinless chicken breast for half that price. It's crazy."

BUT DIRK STUMP HAS TO KEEP LIMES IN STOCK, EVEN AT 4 DOLLARS A POUND.

"That's ridiculous."

"So how many limes will 4 bucks get you? If you're lucky, about five."

"Even in our service deli, we make fresh ceviche and, well we've stopped because it would be astronomically expensive."

BUT CHEF DEBORAH SCOTT SAYS THEY CAN'T STOP USING LIMES. WHETHER IT'S ON A DINNER PLATE OR IN A DRINK.

ALL SHE CAN DO IS SERVE HER CUSTOMERS AND HOPE THE PRICES START COMING BACK TO NORMAL.

"And a margarita with lemon isn't quite the same." Return to index of stories...
