SOT-MIKE MULLEN-MEMBER

I think the significance is hidden--hidden in the mercy, in the charity that is shown by this great man. To have recognized by the world, it's a huge opportunity for us.

THIS WEEKEND, POPE FRANCIS NAMED TWO FORMER LEADERS ---JOHN XXIII AND POPE JOHN PAUL II, SAINTS---IN A VERY PUBLIC CEREMONY AT THE VADICAN.

SOT-FATHER ROBERT TABBERT

we've been anticipating this for a long time, for many years actually. You could almost feel the church was cresenduing today.

FATHER TABBERT SAYS, HE'S BEEN WAITING FOR THIS DAY.BUT BECAUSE IT'S SUCH A *RARE OCCURANCE, HE WASN'T SURE HE WOULD EVER SEE IT.

SOT-FATHER TABBERT

I though it might be some time in the future or maybe not in my lifetime. But when it was announced I was really filled with joy.

WHILE THOUSANDS WERE CELEBRATING HERE---MILLIONS WERE CELEBRATING IN ROME, INCLUDING CHELSEA ALLAN AND HER 12 YEAR OLD SON FROM AVA MARIA,

SOT-CHELSEA ALLAN-WENT TO ROME

"that afternoon I started seeing people coming with sleeping bags and just lining up on the sidewalks and all over, and more and more religious sisters and brothers and priests and young people--in groups and by themselves and the streets here filling up with people. I started thinking i don't know if we'll get in.

BUT THEY DID. SHE SAYS, THEY WAITED IN LINE FOR HOURS.

ALLAN SAYS, WHEN SHE HEARD IN OCTOBER THAT THE CEREMONY WOULD TAKE PLACE IN APRIL, SHE KNEW SHE HAD TO GO WITH HER SON, JOHN PAUL---WHO'S NAMED AFTER SAINT JOHN PAUL.

SOT-CHELSEA

it was amazing. It was beautiful. It was nothing I've ever experienced before.

SATURDAY, residents surveyed the damage and started the lengthy clean-up process…

At least SIX tornadoes in the area damaged more than 200 homes and businesses Friday. One of the six was the first E-F 3 of the season, with winds of up to 150 miles per hour.

THE PORCH IS GONE, THE ROOF IS GONE, THE SIDING IS GONE BUT I STILL HAVE SOMEWHERE TO STAY SO I'M BLESSED

There was heavy hail as violent storms ripped trees from their roots and snapped power lines. 18 people were hurt.

It may have been just a warm-up. after a quiet start, forecasters say the worst outbreak of the season begins tonight.

Dr. FORBES: OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS BETWEEN NOW AND WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY, WE COULD SEE MORE TORNADOES THAN WE'VE SEEN ALL YEAR THUS FAR. AND IT'S NOT JUST THE NUMBER. SOME OF THE TORNADOES COULD BE STRONG OR EVEN VIOLENT. THOSE ARE THE KIND THAT COULD TURN DEADLY, SO WE NEED YOU TO PAY ATTENTION AND HEED THOSE TORNADO WARNINGS.

FORECAST-WXWALL

WX RUNDOWN:

It was another sunny and sultry day across Southwest Florida as our afternoon temperatures soared into the 90s.

As we work through the evening, temperatures will slowly drop into the 70s afternoon sunset, but we'll only cool to around 70 degrees through the overnight hours into Monday morning.

The First Alert LIVE Radar will stay fairly quiet this evening, but it's possible for a couple downpours to form deeper inland along the sea breeze.

We're on track to see another very warm day Monday with temperatures quickly climbing through the morning under a mainly sunny sky.

Our temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s by noon, and we'll top out in the low to mid 90s through the heat of the day.

A few thin clouds will flow through our Southwest Florida sky at times, but sunshine will prevail.

Rain chances will be relatively low for the first half of the week, but we should have just enough moisture and instability in place to spark a few spotty downpours deeper inland.

Rain chances get a little boost for the second half of the week as a cool front approaches from the northwest, which should stir up the atmosphere just enough to fire up a few afternoon showers and storms.

Temperatures will stay rather warm and toasty for most of the week with highs around 90 and overnight lows in the low 70s.

By the end of the week, we may manage to see a slight dip in temperatures and a drop in humidity, but it won't be anything too dramatic.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...
