LOUISVILLE, Miss. - At least 33 deaths have been reported from a large, stubborn storm system making its way through the South after pummeling the central U.S.

In Mississippi, officials say 11 people died Monday, nine in Winston County, where hard-hit Louisville is the county seat. Two others died in separate roadway crashes.

In Alabama, three people were reported dead, two in the northern part of the state and one in Tuscaloosa. There, officials say a University of Alabama student died Monday when he took shelter in a home's basement and a retaining wall collapsed on him.

Tennessee officials say two people died in a home when a suspected tornado hit Monday night.

On Sunday, 15 were killed as a tornado blasted through Arkansas. One person died in Oklahoma, and one in Iowa. Return to index of stories...

Eddie Challinor, Shore catch charters

7:26:59 in the rainy season there is just too much water going down in the rainy season. So if you can cap and store some of it and send it during the dry season, that would be better 7:27:11

THAT'S THE PLAN.

CONGRESS IS CONSIDERING THE C-43 RESERVOIR WHICH WOULD COLLECT WATER IN THE RAINY SEASON AND SEND IT DOWN THE CALOOSAHATCHEE IN THE DRY SEASON.

Jennifer Hecker, Conservancy of SWFL

7:15:02 it's either way too much or way too little water getting to the river and so a lot of the organisms in the river can't survive those conditions. 7:15:11

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

INCREASING RAIN AND STORM CHANCES

Heat and humidity were again common themes across Southwest Florida Tuesday, with highs soaring into the low to mid 90s. Scattered showers and storms also developed this afternoon and this activity will slowly diminish this evening. Expect quiet conditions overnight, with warm lows in the low 70s.

The weather repeats itself for Wednesday. We will again see plenty of sun in the morning, with scattered showers and storms developing along and east of I-75. Highs will again climb into the low to mid 90s.

Rain and storm chances increase on Thursday as more moisture works into the area. Again, the best chance for storms will be in inland areas. Highs will be in the low 90s.

Our next storm system begins to approach the area on Friday. This will increase cloud cover and bring an even better chance of showers and storms to the area. Highs will be in the upper 80s.

The system will linger into Saturday, bringing more showers and storms to the region. The system will begin to exit the area Sunday, although some showers may be possible in southern areas. Highs both days will be in the mid to upper 80s.

Slightly cooler and drier air returns to the area next week, with temps Monday & Tuesday in the mid to upper 80s. Return to index of stories...

BOATERS MEAN BUSINESS.

Rebecca Maddox

Owner, Three60 Market

Every week we get two or three more boaters. We started with 1 or 2 and now on a weekend we can easily get 20-25 boaters

SHE OWNS 360 MARKET -JUST OFF HALDEMAN'S CREEK IN EAST NAPLES.

NOW SHE WORRIES A PROPOSED DOCK-WOULD BLOCK BOATERS FROM STOPPING BY.

Rebecca Maddox

Owner, Three60 Market

:06

Anything you do to make it more difficult to use that waterway would impact us

IT'S PART OF A PLAN FOR A NEW TOWN HOUSE COMPLEX

NEAR BAYSHORE DRIVE.

THE DEVELOPERS REQUESTED THE DOCK-THAT WOULD EXTEND MORE THAN 50-FEET INTO THE CREEK.

IT'S MORE THAN TWICE THE SIZE THAN OTHER DOCKS.

AND PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE SAY IT'S JUST NOT PRACTICAL.

Bill Harvey

:05

I'm not really opposed to the project but the size of the dock, that's ridiculous

RESIDENTS SAY THE DOCK IS TOO BIG

AND THE CREEK-TOO NARROW

MAKING BOATING- NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE.

Jean Harvey

Resident

:05

The traffic going in and out just trying to pass each other sounds like it's going to be a big problem

Bill Harvey

Resident

:06

We'd have problems at low tide turning the corners, getting in and out and navigating the waters there

ACCORDING TO THE DEVELOPERS SURVEY-

THE PLANS SHOULD ALLOW ROOM FOR BOATERS TO PASS.

BUT RESIDENTS SAY THEY'RE RESTRICTED TO 20-FOOT DOCKS.

AND OTHERS-SHOULD HAVE THE SAME RULES.

Bill Harvey

Resident

:07

They're part of our community now. They'll be moving in this area. And we want to welcome them but those docks are way too large

THE PLANNING COMMISSION WILL REVIEW THE REQUEST IN JUNE.

UNTIL THEN ---

REBECCA MADDOX WILL WELCOME BOATERS IN-WHILE SHE CAN.
