CONSTRUCTION IN ESTERO IS WELL UNDERWAY FOR THE NEW GLOBAL

THE NEW FACILITY- EXPECTED TO BE HOME TO AS MANY AS 700 NEW JOBS IN LEE COUNTY.

BUT THERE'S A PROBLEM.

"We invested a little less than we thought and we've got a lot more

employee than planned working here now." Richard Broome, Hertz

COMPANY SPOKESPERSON RICHARD BROOME SAYS ITS WHY THEY WENT TO THE

COUNTY TO ASK FOR EXTENSIONS ON TWO DATES OF THEIR CURRENT AGREEMENT.

"What we've essentially done is threw out the plan to meet our

current expectations." Broom

ACCORDING TO COUNTY DOCUMENTS.

HERTZ IS ABOUT 4 MILLION DOLLARS SHY OF THE AMOUNT THEY SAID THEY

WOULD HAVE INVESTED AT THE END OF LAST YEAR PER THEIR INCENTIVE

AGREEMENT WITH LEE COUNTY.

DOCUMENTS LIST DELAYS IN RECEIVING DESIGN APPROVALS FOR THE NEW

BUILDING FROM THE ESTERO COMMUNITY PLANNING PANEL, BUT HERTZ OFFICIALS

SAY THAT WASN'T THE BIGGEST SETBACK.

"From our perspective that was small issue, our bigger issue was that

we had to work out financing for the project"

TODAY ESTERO LEADERS TELL US THEY WERE BOTHERED BY HERTZ'S ACCUSATIONS.

"I felt a little concerned that they pointed the finger at us as a

hold up and to me we were anything but a holdup."

BUT ULTIMATELY FEEL IT WILL BECOME WATER UNDER THE BRIDGE.

"I'm sure this will heal over in a very short time."

MEANWHILE COUNTY LEADERS SAY BECAUSE HERTZ HAS BEEN FULLY TRANSPARENT

WITH THE COUNTY THEY DON'T FORESEE AN ISSUE WITH GRANTING THE COMPANY

MORE TIME

BUT ADMIT PAST EXPERIENCES WITH OTHER COMPANIES USING THIS SAME

INCENTIVE PROGRAM HAS THEM PROCEEDING WITH CAUTION.

"The nightmare are always in the back of your mind but the good news

for Hertz is everything they have said and committed to they have

done."

UNDER THE NEW AGREEMENT THE COMPANY HAS UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER TO

INSIDE THIS WAREHOUSE, A TEAM OF WORKERS PROVE IT'S NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE MOUNTAINS.

Aluminum, metal cans.

Plastics, one through 7.

We can do glass. We can do most any kind of paper.

NOTE SHE SAID *MOST*.

It's really hard to make it into a bale so we can sell it. and the

objective is always to sell this.

MOLLY SCHWEERS' JOB WITH LEE COUNTY SOLID WASTE IS TO INFORM THE PUBLIC ABOUT WHAT CAN BE RECYCLED.

We do not sort smaller than 3/8th of an inch in size.

HOME AND OFFICE SHREDDERS SLICE SMALL PIECES TO PROTECT PERSONAL INFORMATION.

BUT THAT DOESNT MAKE THE CUT HEERE.

WORKERS SORT RECYCLABLES THROUGH A SERIES OF BELTS AND BINS. SHREDS OF PAPER JUST BECOME LITTER.

and if the sorter's find it, then they can pull it off.

IF SORTERS DON'T CATCH SHREDDED PAPER, IT CAN MIX WITH MATERIAL THEY NEED TO SELL. A BUYER IN CHINA DOESN'T WANT PAPER MIXED IN WITH A BAIL OF PLASTIC.

SCHWEERS SAYS TO UNDERSTAND THIS ANSWER, THINK ABOUT THE MISSION OF WHAT THEY'RE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH HERE.

That while a lot of stuff is recyclable. it's not recyclable in your

county bin. because we're dealing with such volume, we need a

commodity.

BUT DONT DESPAIR. SHREDDED PAPER IS PUT TO GOOD USE - NEXT DOOR AT THE WASTE TO ENERGY FACILITY.

If you put that into your trash can, it can go straight to the waste

to energy plant and become electricity.

SHE SUGGESTS USING SHREDDED PAPER FOR PACKING MATERIAL.
