6:02 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

The good news about our weekend weather is sunshine will be in the forecast, but before it gets sunny, it's going to be cloudy and even soggy.

A weak cool front is edging its way down the peninsula this morning, which will keep our weather very cloudy, and at times stormy, through the first half of the weekend.

Fortunately for those with outdoor plans, the entire weekend won't be a washout.

The best chance of rain and storms will come today as moisture flows into Southwest Florida ahead of a cool front. The main window of opportunity for rain will be this morning through the mid afternoon time frame, and we may even see some thunderstorms in the mix.

The rain will begin to diminish by late this afternoon, and our sky will start to clear tonight into Sunday morning.

Even with lots of clouds around today, it's going to be fairly warm; temperatures will peak anywhere from the upper 70s to the mid 80s.

For the second half our weekend, the forecast looks phenomenal. We'll even start off our Sunday a little on the cooler side with temperatures in the lower half of the 60s early in the morning.

Another nice change tomorrow will be the drop in humidity as our winds become more northerly in the wake of the front. It's still going to be warm, however, with daytime highs in the upper 80s by Sunday afternoon.

Sunday will also end up being very sunny and mainly dry.

Our sky will continue to clear out through the upcoming week, making way for lots of sunshine and some pretty warm temperatures.

Highs for most of next the week will peak in the upper 80s to low 90s, but overnight temperatures will be slightly cooler with lows in the mid 60s for the first half of the week.

Rain chances will stay relatively low next week with no approaching weather systems expected until next weekend.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

THIS IS HER MUGSHOT FROM A PRIOR ARREST.

SHE CLAIMS MORRIS AND THIS MAN CALEB FERNANDEZ, WHOSE MUGSHOT IS ALSO TIED TO A SEPARATE CRIME, BURST IN OPENING FIRE.

JUST BEFORE THAT SHE SAYS FERNANDEZ KEPT CALLING AND TEXTING.

SHE REPORTEDLY TOLD HIM THEY WERE ALONE, THE DOGS WERE ASLEEP, AND THE DOOR WAS OPEN.

FILE

He didn't deserve to die this way, in such a cruel way.

SUMMERTIME IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER -- AND THAT MEANS -- RAINY SEASON.

THIS IS VIDEO FROM LAST YEAR -- ROADS LOOKING LIKE RIVERS.

NBC2'S JOELLE PARKS UNCOVERS WHAT LEE COUNTY IS LOOKING AT DOING --

TO MAKE SURE ROADS DON'T FLOOD AGAIN IN NORTH FORT MYERS. Return to index of stories...

NFM FLOODING FIX-PKG

Normally a pristine paradise,

This area off of Nalle grade in north fort myers can become a nightmare.

Sot Danny Yeomans, North Fort Myers

It's terrible. The roads are all underwater and it's very hard for traffic to go through."

This is video from last years rainy season.

Sot Gabriel McNulty, North Fort Myers

It looks like a great floods about to come and we're going to have to build an arc."

Animals- stranded.

People- struggling to get to their homes.

Sot Gabriel

It gets pretty high in some areas, especially on some of the dirt roads it gets really bad."

That flood water, full of fertilizer and sewage, makes it's way to bayshore creek.

The small waterway can't hold the amount of water, keeping in flooded for months,

Until the water drains into the caloosahatchee and spreads downstream to the Gulf of Mexico,

Contributing to water quality problems.

Take sot-

Chairman Larry Kiker, Lee County Commission

All of this works together and has to be coordinated, and you gotta have a plan in place."

The plan for here-

The Nalle grade stormwater park.

It would be retention pond of sorts,

A place for excess water from watersheds to go,

be filtered by natural plant life,

then be released back into the bayshore creek *clean.

Sot Kiker

We're definitely in catch up mode and we're going to be that way for a long long time.

The county is waiting on governor Rick Scott's signature on the state budget to make this- and 3 other water quality projects happen.

The total cost for all 4- 5 million dollars,

2 million from the state.

Sot Chairman Larry Kiker, Lee County Commissioner

We don't want him to touch these projects, they're vital to out. Immunity and we want him to know about that."

Despite the support, Residents have their doubts.

Danny Yeomans

North Fort Myers

"Its fantastic if they can get it done and get it approved."

Sot Gabriel

"It'd be cool but I don't think it's ever going to happen. They're too busy adding lanes to the highway and whatnot."

Kiker says this is his priority,

And should be everyone else's as well.

Since quality of live and tourism economy depend on water.

Sot Kiker

I think that the results are going to be personal for everyone." Return to index of stories...

I am Carolyn Manno joined by event planner Sara McCall. If you don't have tickets to the Derby it's okay because you can plan your own Derby party."

"Yeah absolutely"

"I see the Mint Juleps on the table. That is a must have for any Derby party. What else can you serve at a Derby Party?"

"Well we have some cute little desserts. We have the mint juleps cupcakes, the run for the Roses cupcakes. We also have the derby pies super cute little pecan pies. We also have- these are really fun- the bourbon balls which are actually just a chocolate cake ball and actually just add a bourbon into it."

" I love it very festival and right on trend with the occasion. I also see you have some homemade goodies here to kind of decorative your Derby party."

"Yeah"

"I feel like I can even make these."

"Absolutely! Anyone can do these."

"Okay, what are these?"

"You can enjoy your mint julep in this, but we just cut out strips of felt and we added the numbers for the jockey silks?"

"I love it! How about a centerpiece because you found this little guy in a local craft store right?"

"Yeah I found him in the kids section! Super easy. We just got a wooden box, you can get actual roses at a local florist or grocery store, cut them, stick them in there, got a little wheat grass and Tada!"

"What's the most important thing to remember when you are hosting a Derby party?"

"Well you got to have the mint juleps for sure, you got to have some food, and you want to have some games as well."
