FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Extended stretch of dry weather"

It was a beautiful start to the week with blues skies and low humidity. Afternoon temperatures made it to 90° in town, and it looks like the heat will continue to build over the next few days. Rain prospects begin to increase slightly for the upcoming weekend.

Bright and sunny skies will take us through the late morning hours and temperatures will be quick to rise by mid day. Through the afternoon expect an abundance of sunshine and highs in the lower 90s. Humidity values stay relatively comfortable by May standards, but if you want to beat the heat head to the area beaches. Coastal spots will run a few degrees cooler as the west coast seabreeze kicks in during the day.

Mostly clear skies will prevail through the evening and temperatures will stay mild in the middle 60s.

High pressure remains in control of our weather for Wednesday, so plan on mostly to partly sunny skies each and every afternoon. Winds will continue to veer to the southeast pushing more moisture into Southwest Florida. Since humidity levels will be going up, overnight lows will be much milder as they settle into upper 60s to lower 70s by late in the week. During the day, afternoon temperatures will climb into the lower half of the 90s with mainly dry weather. Rain prospects look to go up slightly between 20-30% by the weekend as a few isolated showers develop along the seabreeze. Return to index of stories...

"I was just shocked just shocked when I heard that voicemail."

"Good morning Mr. Rubeo, Mrs. Thomas. Uh. Uh. Giovanni called you because I asked him to. I noticed that he has a book - a religious book - in the classroom. He's not permitted to read those books in my class."

THE LAUDERDALE LAKES FIFTH GRADER TOOK OUT HIS BIBLE DURING A 90 MINUTE FREE READING PERIOD.

S/ Giovanni Rubeo/ Student:33 -:40

"Little by little it became my favorite book to read. A lot more better than all the other books. She told me to put it away. And I cooperated."

TWO DAYS LATER -- HIS DAD WROTE A LETTER ASKING THE PRINCIPAL TO LET HIS SON READ HIS BIBLE DURING FREE READING.

THE LETTER WAS HANDED TO THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT --

AND ULTIMATELY -- THE BROWARD SCHOOL DISTRICT DECIDE GIOVANNI COULD ONLY READ THE BIBLE **BEFORE AND **AFTER SCHOOL.

SO, THE FAMILY FILED A FIRST AMENDMENT LAWSUIT.

S/ Jeremiah Dys/ Senior Council:50 -:56

NOW, THE DISTRICT SEEMS TO HAVE HAD A CHANGE OF HEART, SAYING --

"IT RESPECTS AND UPHOLDS THE RIGHTS OF STUDENTS TO BRING PERSONAL RELIGIOUS MATERIALS TO SCHOOL AND TO READ THESE ITEMS BEFORE SCHOOL, AFTER SCHOOL OR DURING ANY "FREE READING" TIME."

BUT IT'S NOT ENOUGH FOR THE RUBEO'S -- THEY WANT AN APOLOGY.

Right in Times' Square. The hot spot right on the corner.

SOMETIMES PRIME LOCATION HAS A DOWN SIDE.

We're the first thing people see when they walk toward the pier or

toward the beach opening.

PEOPLE DON'T JUST WALK IN FOR FOOD.

yeah. Really mad actually. But there's not much we

can do about it.

THEY POSTED THIS SIGN SAYING RESTROOMS ARE FOR CUSTOMERS *ONLY.

Chad: So are you guys customers here.

Boy/Girl Teen Couple: No! no.

THE NOTE ON THE DOOR DIDN'T TURN AWAY THESE TWO VISITORS FROM NEW JERSEY.

Chad: So you don't have any problem walking in, using their bathroom

and then walking out?

Girl: Well, now you're making it a little awkward.

IT'S NO LAUGHING MATTER FOR THE WORKERS WHO HAVE TO THE MAINTAIN BATHROOMS AND PAY FOR UPKEEP.

Citrolla's customers only. It's trying to make them think, oh maybe I

should go in the public restroom that's 300 yards away.

FLORIDA LAW AND BUILDING CODE REQUIRE THAT LODGING AND FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS MAINTAIN PUBLIC BATHROOMS.

THE STATE'S DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL REGULATION ENSURES BATHROOMS ARE IN PLACE AND MEET HEALTH STANDARDS.

BUT A SPOKESPERSON TOLD ME, "THERE ARE NO FLORIDA LAWS THAT GIVE DBPR JURISDICTION TO REGULATE THE *USE* OF AN ESTABLISHMENT'S RESTROOMS."

Legally we could put a lock on the door or a key.

THE OWNER OF CITROLLA'S RESTAURANT SEES EVERYONE AS A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER.

THAT'S WHY WORKERS DON'T *VERBALLY TURN PEOPLE AWAY.

Sometimes it's hard to distinguish who is who or who ate here or who

had ice cream.
