FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

MOSTLY SUNNY WITH MORE HEAT

It will be another mostly sunny day in Southwest Florida, but there are a few subtle changes occurring. Afternoon highs will reach into the lower 90s. The dew point is creeping up, so that means you'll likely notice it being a little bit more humid today. Winds will be from the southeast with gusts near 20 mph. Then the afternoon sea breeze will arrive, keeping beaches slightly cooler that inland areas.

Tomorrow, the cloud cover and the humidity will both increase a bit and highs will still be in the lower 90s.

Mother's Day is this weekend and the weather still looks pretty good. It will be hot and humid with highs in the upper 80s. There will also be more clouds ins our skies. There is a slight chance for an inland shower both days, but the majority of the area will stay dry.

We'll be hot and humid going into next week with the possibility of a stray shower on Monday. By Tuesday and Wednesday, we'll bring in a better chances for showers and storms. Return to index of stories...

WITH INTEREST RATES STILL AT HISTORICAL LOWS AND THE STOCK MARKET NOW AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH, BABY BOOMERS NEED TO BE MUCH MORE DELIBERATE ABOUT THEIR RETIREMENT PLANNING.

NICK CHLUMSKY IS HERE FROM THE NOLTE WEALTH MANAGEMENT GROUP TO DISCUSS 5 MOVES, BOOMERS SHOULD BE MAKING NOW TO ENSURE A MORE SECURE RETIREMENT.

NICK? Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLASMA CG

· Well, it's definitely true that getting to and through retirement today is more difficult than it was say just 10 years ago. And I believe the biggest culprit or challenge that baby boomers have today is the low interest rate environment in which we find ourselves. And to illustrate this point, let's take a newly retired couple that retired with $2,000,000 back in 2000 when one year CD rates where about 6%. That couple, in 2000 was able to generate $120,000 of retirement income taking zero risk. Today, in order for that couple to generate the same $120,000 with no risk, they would have had to retire with $40,000,000. So it's important for you boomers out there to do everything you can to maximize retirement savings now and consequently maximize your retirement income in the future. Taking the following steps now may provide you more financial security during your retirement.

· First, catch up on contributions in your retirement accounts. Starting at age 50, you can contribute an additional $5,500 into your employer-sponsored 401K and an additional $1,000 in your individual retirement account or IRA. Saving an additional $5,500 starting at age 50 until a retirement age of 65 growing at 7% will increase your nest egg by an additional $150,000.

· Second, learn about social security benefits. There are many different options when it comes to claiming your social security benefits and the timing of when you begin claiming your benefits can make a big different in the amount you will receive over your lifetime. Although you can begin taking social security as early as age 62 at a reduced benefit amount, consider delaying taking social security as long as you can since benefits will increase about 8% every year you wait past your full retirement age up until age 70.

· Third, create a plan for generating retirement income. My suggestion is to create an income retirement plan that generates both guaranteed income and then discretionary income from a well-diversified and properly allocated portfolio. The guaranteed income can be generated by an annuity that should be used to cover essential expenses like taxes, utilities, medical expenses, etc.

· Fourth, if you are late starting your retirement savings plan, consider revamping your budget by cutting costs and applying those cuts to savings. Also consider downsizing to a smaller home and or working longer than originally planned.

· Last, consider working with a financial advisor or planner to help you put all of the pieces of the retirement planning puzzle together. There are a lot of variables to consider so make sure you have a plan in place to ensure you can make your nest egg last 25 year or more. Return to index of stories...

THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME MONICA LEWINSKY HAS TRIED TO REINVENT HERSELF.

"Hi, Handsome."

FROM SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE BACK IN 1999 TO INTERVIEWS.

"I was a 22-year-old foolish kid."

THE RESULTS WERE UNEVEN AT BEST.

SHE NOW TELLS VANITY FAIR "I WAS ARGUABLY THE MOST HUMILIATED PERSON IN THE WORLD."

AN ENDORSEMENT FOR THE DIET COMPANY JENNY CRAIG DOESN'T LAST LONG BECAUSE OF NEGATIVE REACTION.

A LINE OF HANDBAGS IS A FLOP.

AND A TELL-ALL BOOK DOES LITTLE TO LEAVE THE SCANDAL BEHIND.

REPUTATION EXPERT MIKE PAUL SAYS AT FIRST, SHE MAKES ALL THE WRONG DECISIONS.

"She ran towards reality television. She ran towards making sure she had a book out to deal with the situation. She didn't say I'm done with this I really want to get my life back and to prove that I really want to get my life back I'm not going to touch this issue at all."

TO ESCAPE SHE HEADS TO GRAD SCHOOL AT THE PRESTIGIOUS LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS - AND LARGELY AVOIDS PUBLIC LIFE FOR 10 YEARS.

"She reached a level of fame - notoriety that has just proven impossible to overcome. She is simply too famous it seems to have a normal life."

AFTER GETTING A MASTERS, LEWINSKY TELLS VANITY FAIR -" I MOVED BETWEEN LONDON, LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK AND PORTLAND OREGON - INTERVIEWING FOR A VARIETY OF JOBS.

YET BECAUSE OF WHAT MY POTENTIAL EMPLOYERS SO TACTFULLY REFERRED TO AS MY HISTORY, I WAS NEVER QUITE RIGHT FOR THE POSITION."

SHE SAYS CONCERNS ABOUT POTENTIAL BACKLASH FROM THE CLINTONS HURT HER IN JOB INTERVIEWS.

CNN LEGAL ANALYST JEFFERY TOOBIN SAYS OTHER KEY FIGURES IN THE SCANDAL DAMAGED HER MORE.

"The people who made Monica Lewinsky a public figure were Ken Starr's prosecutors. The last thing Bill Clinton wanted was her to be a public figure at all."

PAUL AGREES HER TROUBLES STEM LESS FROM THE PRESIDENT - THAN FROM THE INCIDENT ITSELF.

"Bill Clinton didn't ruin her life. The situation didn't ruin her life. Public opinion didn't ruin her life. Her decision to have an affair with a married man who happened to be the president of the United States ruined her life."

LEWINSKY NOW SAYS "IT'S TIME TO BURN THE BERET AND BURY THE BLUE DRESS. AND MOVE FORWARD."

Jean: What advice would you give to her from this point on?

Paul: I think the biggest piece of advice I would be giving her right now is that unless she owns her behavior 110% and isn't seen as blaming others this crisis will continues. Return to index of stories...

AT IT'S VERY HEART, CANCER IS THE RESULT OF CELLS GONE WRONG. AS RESEARCHERS STUDY THE GENETICS, THEY ARE FINDING THAT WHERE A CANCER ORIGINATED IN THE BODY MAY BE LESS IMPORTANT THAN WHAT DROVE IT'S CREATION.

DR. CONSTANTINE MANTZ/RADIATION ONCOLOGIST

RUNS:

12:27 Genes that govern it's behavior, it's aggressiveness, where it likes to travel, how it responds to certain treatments are all governed by the genetics of the cancer cell.

THE DIRECTION IN CANCER TREATMENT IS TO MOVE TOWARD IDENTIFYING GENETIC MUTATIONS. THEN FINDING A WEAKNESS TO EXPLOIT THEM.

DR. CONSTANTINE MANTZ/RADIATION ONCOLOGIST

RUNS:

13:01 We can be far more accurate in our predictions about how it's going to behave the rest of that person's life, how curable it is. And also much smarter about selecting the therapies that are going to be effective because we are discovering that certain drugs work most optimally when certain genetics are present.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

In order to speed up the identification of genes, researchers have been comparing diseased samples to healthy genes. By cataloguing cancer they can move towards more personalized treatment.

DR. CONSTANTINE MANTZ/RADIATION ONCOLOGIST

RUNS:

12:27 Being able to identify through sophisticated tests such as molecular assays and other related types of examinations what specific genes and proteins are expressed by these cancer cells allows to do a much more customized job.

ONCOLOGISTS ARE DOING THIS WITH BREAST CANCER AND ARE WORKING TOWARDS OTHER GENETIC PROFILES. WHICH MAY HELP THEM ONE DAY ESSENTIALLY TURN OFF CANCER. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...
