FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

MORE WARMTH TO CLOSE THE WEEK

Heat and dry weather were the story lines again today across Southwest Florida, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Expect a humid evening, with temps falling into the 80s. Overnight lows will be warm, with lows only falling into the upper 60s and low 70s.

More heat is on the way for Friday. We will also increase the humidity and moisture a touch, with partly cloudy skies and highs in the low 90s. Again, a sea breeze will develop, keeping coastal areas in the 80s.

The weekend features plenty of heat and humidity. A weak disturbance will move through the area late Saturday, which could spark a few isolated rain showers. Highs on Saturday will climb into the low 90s, with mid 80s along the coast.

Mother's Day also looks humid, with partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Again, a few isolated showers will be possible but most areas will stay dry.

Changes begin to arrive next week. A few isolated showers will be possible Monday, with highs in the upper 80s.

Better rain chances arrive Tuesday and Wednesday, with scattered showers developing and highs in the upper 80s.

There is some uncertainty as to how quickly the system will exit next week, and a few showers will be possible late week. Return to index of stories...

Nats- briefing

AFTER A FEW LAST MINUTE REMINDERS - nats - IT WAS TIME TO LOAD UP - nats - AND FIND A DRUG DEALER.

Lt Brian Harrison, Special Investigations Unit

19:13 now methamphetamine seems to be the drug of choice right now. 19:17

SOON -THE CHARLOTTE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE'S NARCOTICS UNIT SURROUNDED THIS PORT CHARLOTTE HOME.

Nats- breaking door

Brittney Szukalewicz, Neighbor

25:46 I just woke up to a bunch of cops saying they had the place surrounded. Had me a little bit worried. 25:51

IT'S ONE OF MORE THAN A DOZEN SIMILAR WARRANTS THEY'VE SERVED THIS YEAR.

Lt Brian Harrison, Special Investigations Unit

16:35 the philosophy is that the more drug dealers we put away, the less crime will be committed. 16:41

LT. BRIAN HARRISON AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE UNIT DON'T SHOW THEIR FACES BECAUSE A LOT OF THEM WORK UNDERCOVER - BUYING FROM SUSPECTED DRUG DEALERS.

Nats - file video

LAST YEAR WAS SHERIFF BILL PRUMMELL'S FIRST IN OFFICE. HE BEEFED UP THE NARCOTICS AND STREET CRIMES UNIT.

AS A RESULT - DEPUTIES MADE NEARLY 40 PERCENT MORE DRUG ARRESTS.

F-D-L-E SAYS CHARLOTTE COUNTY'S CRIME RATE HAS DROPPED ABOUT THREE PERCENT - WITH LARGER DECREASES IN ASSAULT- ROBBERY AND BURGLARY CASES.

Capt. Les Partington, CCSO

27:41 drugs are 100% related to crime. If we could wipe out the drugs, we'd wipe out probably 90% of the crime. 26:50

INVESTIGATORS SAY THEY FOUND METH AND SYNTHETIC MARIJUANA INSIDE, BUT NO ONE WAS HOME.
