GOOD MORNING-2 SHOT ANIBOX

GOOD MORNING SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.

THANKS FOR JOINING US ON NBC-2 NEWS TODAY.

IM STACEY DEFFENBAUGH.

AND IM CLIFTON FRENCH.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL THE MOMS OUT THERE.

WE HAVE A VERY BUSY NEWS CAST BUT BEFORE WE GET STARTED LETS CHECK IN WITH METEOROLOGIST JASON DUNNING.

HE'S IN OUR FIRST ALERT STORM TRACKING CENTER WITH THE LATEST ON YOUR MOTHER'S DAY FORECAST.

GOOD MORNING JASON. Return to index of stories...

6:02 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

We'll start off Mother's Day with warm and humid weather across Southwest Florida with morning temperatures in the low to mid 70s.

Expect a little more cloud cover through the morning and midday hours as some thin clouds work in from the northwest, but we should manage to see increasing sunshine by the afternoon.

Despite the extra cloud cover around today, temperatures will stay quite warm with daytime highs returning to the upper 80s and low 90s.

Coastal communities should top out right around the mid to upper 80s where the sea breeze will keep daytime highs slightly cooler.

By the late afternoon and evening, we'll see the potential for a few isolated downpours firing along the sea breeze, but rain coverage will stay pretty spotty; overall, our rain chance today will only be around 20%.

Rain prospects will be a touch higher for the first half of next week as some deeper tropical moisture grazes South Florida, leading to some isolated showers and storms during the afternoon.

The best rain chances will likely come Wednesday afternoon when the deepest moisture moves through Southwest Florida, resulting in a scattering of showers and storms during the afternoon.

Our sky will stay partly sunny through the first half of the week, which will keep our temperatures rather toasty. Highs will top out around 90, and overnight lows will drop to near 70 degrees.

Once the tropical moisture exits toward the end of the week, we'll see sunnier skies and perhaps even a slight drop in humidity by Friday into next weekend. Return to index of stories...

The burned out shell of the mansion rented by the Campbell family sits in stark contrast the surrounding opulence of this upscale Avila neighborhood. Balloons, flowers and cards are attached to the mailbox.

"I think everybody just questions what mentality it takes, what state of mind are you in when you can kill your family kill your children? You can't even process that," said neighbor Sheliah Maudin.

Deputies confirm, Campbell bought a large quantity of fireworks and purchased gas cans on Sunday. On Tuesday, he continued his diabolical plot, buying gas at two different stations.

Wednesday morning, he put the plot into motion, placing the fireworks throughout the house and using the gas to get the fire going.

"Darrin Campbell systematically with the gun that was registered to him, a 40 Sig sour systematically shot his son, his daughter, and his wife in the head," said Col. Donna Luscznski.

Campbell had bought the gun almost a year earlier from Shooter's World on Fletcher Avenue. Manager, Bruce Kitzis said Darrin Campbell passed state and federal background checks and never returned after picking up the sig 40 caliber.

This case, especially with kids involved, is hitting investigators, hard.

"Anytime this happens, it's a tragedy. And it's disturbing to us as a sheriff's office, the investigators and everybody that participated," said Col. Donna Luscznski. Return to index of stories...

6:42 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL
