Some are just know learning about it.

46:18 "I have heard of it, seems like it a limited thing, but yeah you

kinda worry about it."

MERS- which stands for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome.

A virus that according to health officials begins with flu-like fever

and cough. It can lead to shortness of breath, pneumonia and and in

severe cases death.

25:10 "The period of infectivity is five to fourteen days."

Most cases of MERS have been contained to the Middle East, where it

was first identified in 2012.

The first case of the virus in the states was identified in a health

care worker who traveled from Saudi Arabia to Indiana.

This latest case- also a health care worker who health officials

reported came to visit Florida.

44:28 "I don't think its that uncommon for that to happen now and days

things like that spread all over the place"

Officials with the CDC don't believe the cases are linked.

26:21 "It's very early to assume that's everybody is going to be safe,

at this point it has shown that the transmission from person to

person is not that high which gives us a little confidence that its

not an epidemic or that people are going to be in danger or everyone

is going to need to panic." Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Increasing rain prospects""

Once the clouds thinned out, it turned out to be a beautiful end to our Mother's Day weekend. It was also a hot one, as temperatures topped out in the lower to middle 90s area wide. We're looking at a couple of more days in the 90s, before some rain moves in and as a result cools temperatures off a bit.

Through the late afternoon hours expect partly sunny skies along with a bit of a breeze out of the east. As winds pick up between 10-15mph, this will keep the sea breeze pinned very close to the coastline. As a result, daytime temperatures have climbed into the lower half of the 90s. Rain chances will stay very minimal through rest of the day, with a 20% chance at best along our beaches and coastal areas.

This evening, one or two showers may linger along the coast with the vast majority of the area staying dry through the night time hours. Expect a few passing clouds from time to time with temperatures settling into the lower 70s by morning.

With plenty of heat and humidity in place for Tuesday, a couple of showers and storms may bubble up during the heat of the day. A batch of tropical moisture will move in from the east and southeast bringing scattered scattered showers and storms back to the area by Wednesday and Thursday. A few downpours will linger through Friday, before sunnier and less humid weather takes over by the weekend. Return to index of stories...
