5:00 WEATHER LEAD-WXCTR

Today's Weather Story

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Increasing rain prospects"

A few downpours and storms moved through Southwest Florida yesterday on a breezy easterly wind. Tropical moisture from the east and southeast associated with a weak tropical wave will continue to surge into the area over the next couple of days.

Our Wednesday will start off warm and muggy with temperatures in the lower half of the 70s. Partly cloudy skies will remain in place and the trend will be for a quiet and mainly dry morning. Once again through the day, you'll notice some pretty breezy easterly winds with gusts closing in on 20 mph. We'll see cloudy periods from time to time this afternoon with rain and a few storms becoming a bit more widespread across the area. Due to the clouds and the rain, expect daytime highs to reach the upper 80s.

For the most part, the rain should begin to wind down as we head into the evening hours. There may be a few leftover rain pockets, however the overnight period should stay fairly dry with temperatures in the lower 70s.

We'll be gearing up for another wet day on Thursday with the potential for some heavy downpours. This is all due to that tropical moisture interacting with an approaching cold front moving in from the northwest. Ahead of the front, winds will be turning more onshore so a few downpours washing in from the Gulf first thing in the morning is certainly not out of the question with most of the rain shifting inland. Once this cold front passes Southwest Florida, expect lingering clouds early Friday morning with clearing skies through the day. High pressure will build in from the Gulf of Mexico and this will set the stage for a splendid weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday will feature tons of sunshine, highs in the upper 80s, along with a nice drop in humidity. Return to index of stories...

5:30 WEATHER LEAD-WX CTR
