FIRST WEATHER-WX

We've got one more soggy weather day across Southwest Florida before things start to quiet down and clear out just in time for the weekend.

The difference in today's weather pattern is the best chance of rain for most of us will come during the morning and midday time frame instead of the afternoon and evening.

With an onshore flow developing this morning, that'll open the door for some showers washing in from the Gulf, and some of this activity will be heavy at times.

As we work through the day, the best rain chances will tend to shift deeper inland, especially by the late afternoon and evening hours.

We'll keep plenty of warmth and heat around today as temperatures peak in the middle to upper 80s by the early afternoon.

The good news for those wanting a little relief from the heat humidity is we have a cool front scheduled to slide through the area late tonight into Friday morning, which will give us a considerable drop in humidity along with a slight dip in temperatures.

Our sky turns sunnier as we go through our Friday, and we'll also notice that drop in humidity as winds become more northerly. Friday's high temperatures will still be warm, but we'll stay out of the 90s at least with daytime temps topping out in the mid 80s.

Our weather look phenomenal for the upcoming weekend; it'll be sunny and less humid with highs only in the mid to upper 80s! Overnights and early mornings will be cooler, too, with temps dropping down to the low 60s. Return to index of stories...

THE CAUSES OF THE FIRES HAVEN'T BEEN DETERMINED, BUT SOME SKEPTICAL OFFICIALS WORRY ABOUT SO MANY FIRES STARTING IN SUCH A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME.

"I'm sure it could be by chance, but I'll leave it up to investigators. I just think there's too much of a coincidence here."

WHILE THIS RASH OF FIRES CAME EARLY IN THE SEASON, THE WEATHER HAS ONLY CONTRIBUTED TO THEIR SPREAD. CONDITIONS WERE ALREADY VERY DRY IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AS MANY AREAS HAVE EXPERIENCED DROUGHT, AND THE TEMPERATURE IN SAN DIEGO HIT 93 ON WEDNESDAY WITH STEADY WINDS TO FAN THE FIRE.

VIDEO: GRACE KELLY

She was one of the greatest beauties Hollywood has ever known.

Sharing the screen with some great leading men.

SOT GRACE KELLY IN 'TO CATCH A THIEF' 'The man I want doesn't have a price'

But at the height of her fame, Grace walked away. SAILED away.

SOT: "Grace Kelly - America's gift to Monaco"

to marry Prince Ranier of Monaco.

a fairytale wedding, and a happy ending. or so everyone hoped.

SOT: "We're very, very happy

ON CAMERA: "They first met here at the Cannes Film festival almost 60 years ago. In this romantic setting, Grace Kelly's life changed forever.

And here at Cannes TODAY, the premiere of a new film about Princess Grace -- starring Nicole Kidman -- that gives a fictionalized account of an unhappy Princess in a gilded cage.

VIDEO: ALBERT, STEPHANIE, CAROLINE

…a portrayal that has created a firestorm. and infuriated the Princess Grace's children Albert, Stephanie and Caroline.

Her biographer says the film got it wrong:

SOT: THE WAY THE MOVIE DEPICTED IT -- NO. NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS. RAINIER DID THE POLITICS. GRACE WAS. GRACE WAS GRACE, THAT'S ALL SHE HAD TO BE.

VIDEO: KIDMAN

Today Nicole Kidman came to the film's defense.

SOT Nicole Kidman 'I feel sad because I think that the film has no malice toward the family or particularly toward Grace of Ranier. It's fictionalized obviously'

Princess Grace, who died in a car crash in 1982. would not have welcomed all the attention.

1:07:24 Grace: When I was acting, my private life was very much my own, and now my private life is very public.

VIDEO: MOVIE MIX THROUGH TO GRACE KELLY

Meanwhile the movie is getting slammed… one critic saying "it's so wooden it's a fire risk."

WEATHER OPEN-CLIP

Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX WALL

!!!NEED WX ANCHOR CG!!!

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

TEACHER GRABS STUDENT BY THE FACE-PKG

ANTHONY AND AUTUMN NELSON ARE STILL STUNNED BY WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR 6-YEAR-OLD SON IAN LAST WEDNESDAY.

IN A VIDEO THEY PROVIDED TO US, THE RIVERDALE SCHOOL KINDERGARTNER IS WALKING DOWN THE HALLWAY TO GO TO THE BATHROOM.

THE SURVEILLANCE CAMERA THEN SHOWS HIS TEACHER, BARB WILLIAMS, CONFRONT HIM AS HE STEPS OUT OF THE BATHROOM.

THE TEACHER GRABS IAN AND PINS HIM UP AGAINST THE WALL. THEN GRABS HIM BY THE FACE.

IT DOESN'T END THERE.

SHE PICKS HIM UP BY HIS SHIRT AND HIS HEAD FLOPS BACK.

HEAR HIS DAD DESCRIBE IT TO US.

You can see where she grabs a hold of his face.

She slams him up against the wall.

We thought it was just a little incident that happened, and that's what the school made it out to sound like.

And then all of a sudden we get this video today and this is just outrageous.

I watched it out in the kitchen and I just started crying. I burst out in tears. I called my mom. I called his mom. I started calling everybody. I was like I don't know what to do.

THE NELSONS SAY IAN HAD A BRUISE TO THE BACK OF HIS HEAD.

THIS LETTER TUESDAY FROM RIVERDALE SUPERINTENDENT ERIC HOFFMAN INFORMED BARB WILLIAMS THAT SHE IS SUSPENDED FOR TEN DAYS WITHOUT PAY.

IN HIS WORDS: "YOUR REPEATED USE OF PHYSICAL FORCE WAS COMPLETELY UNWARRANTED AND UNPROFESSIONAL."

THE NELSONS WANT HER TERMINATED. THEY PLAN TO TAKE THE VIDEO TO THE HANCOCK COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE TO PURSUE CRIMINAL CHARGES.

IAN HAS BEEN MOVED TO A DIFFERENT KINDERGARTEN CLASS HERE AT THE SCHOOL AND SEEMS TO BE HAPPIER.

BUT HIS PARENTS WORRY THIS INCIDENT WILL HAVE A LONG-TERM IMPACT ON HIM.

He's scared of her. Even going to the school next year or the year after, he will still have to see her if she is present in the building. That's probably going to scare him.

OUR ATTEMPTS TO REACH THE SUPERINTENDENT BY EMAIL HAVE NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL.

Quite often we can identify reasons for readmissions such as inability or unwillingness to fill prescriptions. 2:11: Dietary issues or habits, eating large amount of food that could be high in sodium. Or alcohol consumption.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

The term congestive heart failure means the heart is failing to do it's job. Not pumping enough blood to meet the body's needs. Sudden weight gain, swelling, wheezing and fatigue are signs of trouble- Without close monitoring, the condition is easy to mismanage.

DR. RICHARD CHAZAL/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

2:35: Each time a patient is brought into a hospital we bring all our resources to bear on patients to try and make sure they're on the right medication, but they also have the right support system once they go home.

ONE ASPECT OF KEEPING HEART FAILURE PATIENTS HEALTHY, INVOLVES LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM'S TELEHEALTH PROGRAM. A REMOTE MONITORING SYSTEM, PEOPLE CHECK IN DAILY WITH A SERIES OF TESTS.

CATHY BRADY/CLINICAL MANAGER

RUNS:

:44 They may have gained three pounds overnight and that's too much weight gain because the more you gain, the more your heart has to pump fluid around. So if we can catch it on the front end and maybe give them an extra diuretic to get that fluid off of them, that would keep them out of the hospital.
