FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

More sun and warmth"

We are coming off of a weekend which featured spectacular weather with cool mornings and warm afternoons. As we progress through the week, temperatures will get a bit of a boost along with higher humidity values.

Plenty of sunshine will fill our skies through the late afternoon hours, with just a few fair weather clouds that have moved in from the east. Daytime temperatures have climbed into the upper 80s area wide with readings near 90° inland, while the coast has stayed slightly cooler. Winds will remain breezy through the late day hours with gusts near 20-25 mph.

As we head into the evening hours, mainly clear skies will persist and temperatures will settle into the upper 70s just after sunset. Quiet weather will return once again tonight with temperatures slowly falling into the middle 60s by morning as the winds subside.

As high pressure remains the dominant feature in our forecast, not much will change as we head into Tuesday and beyond. Expect mostly skies tomorrow afternoon with a breeze out of the east. Daytime highs will top out in the upper 80s to lower 90s, with lows in the middle to upper 60s. Winds will become more southeasterly by mid week and as a result, our humidity values will begin to creep back up. A mainly dry pattern will hold through the end of the work week with afternoon highs reaching the lower 90s.

Overall, the upcoming weekend looks to be in good shape. We'll see just a few more clouds and a couple of spotty showers by Sunday. Return to index of stories...

MERS CASE-PKG

A MAN IN ILLINOIS -- WHO HAD TWO BUSINESS MEETINGS WITH THE FIRST CONFIRMED MERS PATIENT IN THE U-S -- HAS SHOWN EVIDENCE THAT HE TOO WAS INFECTED WITH THE VIRUS.

A BLOOD TEST SHOWS HIS IMMUNE SYSTEM MADE ANTIBODIES TO FIGHT A MERS INFECTION -- BUT SAMPLES FROM HIS RESPIRATORY TRACT NEVER TESTED POSITIVE FOR THE VIRUS -- SO HE COULDN'T SPREAD IT BY COUGHING OR SNEEZING.

"His immune system did kick in at some point in time to wall off the infection -- so he has evidence of being infected but no evidence ever of being infectious."

EXPERTS SAY THOSE MOST AT RISK FOR THE VIRUS ARE HEALTHCARE WORKERS WHO TREAT PATIENTS -- OR FAMILY MEMBERS OF THE SICK -- BUT THE ILLINOIS CASE RAISES THE QUESTION OF WHETHER CASUAL CONTACT CAN ALSO SPREAD MERS.

IT'S PART OF THE REASON HEALTH OFFICIALS ARE MONITORING ANYONE WHO HAD CONTACT WITH THE THREE INFECTED PATIENTS IN THE U-S.

"Some of these studies that we're doing, or follow-ups that we're doing - for instance with the airline travelers, will help us know if it's easy to spread the virus or not, and if there's a very, um, if it's common to have no symptoms, but just antibody."

QUESTIONS REMAIN ABOUT WHETHER PEOPLE WITH NO SYMPTOMS CAN SPREAD THE VIRUS -- BUT DOCTORS SAY MERS IS NOT AS CONTAGIOUS AS THE FLU.

"MERS community transmission happens occasionally as far as we can tell, and not in a sustained person to person fashion."

WHILE EXPERTS WORK TO GET ANSWERS TO THE MANY QUESTIONS THIS THIRD PATIENT HAS TRIGGERED -- THEY SAY THE RISK FOR MERS INFECTIONS IN THE GENERAL PUBLIC REMAINS LOW.

BREAKFAST FOODS-SS

HERE'S MORE REASON TO MAKE SURE YOU'RE EATING FIBER IN THE MORNING.

CEREALS THAT ARE HIGH IN CARBS AND SUGAR WILL CAUSE YOUR BLOOD SUGAR TO SPIKE, THEN DROP.

THAT CAN LEAD TO CRAVINGS AND MOOD SWINGS.

YOUR BEST BET IS CHOOSE CEREAL WITH AT LEAST 3 GRAMS OF FIBER - AND ADD BERRIES OR NUTS.

AVOID BREAKFAST BARS - MOST ARE LOADED WITH SUGAR.

SOME PEOPLE GO FOR NON-FAT YOGURT - BUT THAT'S ENOUGH.

YOU NEED BETWEEN 250 TO 400 CALORIES.

A GLASS OF JUICE - ALSO - *NOT A MEAL - JUST CARBS AND SUGAR.

COFFEE WAKES YOU UP BUT IS NOWHERE NEAR THE NUTRITION WE NEED IN THE MORNING. Return to index of stories...

GETTING STROKE PATIENTS TIMELY CARE IS CRITICAL TO THEIR CHANCES OF MAKING A FULL RECOVERY.

NOW, PEOPLE LIVING IN CAPE CORAL ARE ABLE TO GET THE SPEEDY CARE THEY NEED, CLOSE TO HOME.

LIFE CAN CHANGE IN AN INSTANT. STROKE IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE.

DR. WENDY BOND/NEUROLOGIST

RUNS:

4:29 A stroke causes cessation of blood and oxygen to the brain. It can happen in two ways - one there is a clot that gets stuck within the blood vessel itself or that blood vessel can actually burst.

WHEN A CLOT LODGES IN AN ARTERY TO THE BRAIN, IT'S CALLED AN ISCHEMIC OR 'DRY' STROKE. THE LONGER IT'S STARVED OF OXYGEN, THE MORE BRAIN CELLS DIE.

DR. WENDY BOND/NEUROLOGIST

RUNS:

5:26 It seems people get more aware to get to the ER urgently because there is a clot busting drug called TPA that can be given.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Getting treatment within the Golden Hour- 60 minutes or less- offers the best chance for a full recovery. Each year about 350 patients were rushed by ambulance from Cape Coral to primary stroke centers in Fort Myers. With time being so important- it could've been a bridge too far.

THE DRIVE-TIME IS MUCH SHORTER TODAY.

CAPE CORAL HOSPITAL WAS RECENTLY RECOGNIZED BY THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION FOR BECOMING A PRIMARY STROKE CENTER- BASED IN PART ON IT'S ABILITY TO DELIVER EXCEPTIONAL CARE WITH GREAT SPEED.

SCOTT KASHMAN/CAO CAPE CORAL HOSPITAL

RUNS:

:31 What that means, is that people who live in our community can stay here in Cape Coral without having to go over the bridge for the care that they need. The sooner that we can see these patients, the better off they're going to be in the long run.

CAPE CORAL HOSPITAL JOINS LEE MEMORIAL AND GULF COAST MEDICAL CENTER AS PRIMARY STROKE CENTERS. A DISTINCTION THAT TYPICALLY TAKES 2 YEARS WAS ACHIEVED IN JUST 6 MONTHS.

SCOTT KASHMAN/CAO CAPE CORAL HOSPITAL

RUNS:

1:05 It took a tremendous team effort between our nurses and our physicians and the people behind the scenes, making sure clinical protocols are in place to make sure we deliver great care.

AT A DESTINATION CLOSE TO HOME. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST OPEN Return to index of stories...

NEARLY 50-BILLION DOLLARS:

THAT'S THE HEFTY PRICE TAG AT&T AGREED TO PAY FOR DIRECTV.

.AMERICA'S LARGEST SATELLITE T-V PROVIDER.

THIS DEAL: JUST THE LATEST IN A WAVE OF MEDIA CONSOLIDATION.

COMCAST REVEALED ITS PLANS TO BUY TIME WARNER CABLE FOR 45-BILLION DOLLARS IN FEBRUARY, AND SPRINT PARENT COMPANY, SOFTBANK, HAS BEEN EXPRESSING ITS INTEREST IN SEALING THE DEAL WITH T-MOBILE.

THE INEVITABLE CONCERN: THESE NEW INTERNET AND VIDEO POWERHOUSES COULD TAKE MORE CONTROL OVER YOUR SCREENS -- ALL OF THEM!

"With that consolidation and that reduction of competition, we see fewer things happening and prices mostly going up for consumers and subscribers."

POTENTIALLY *GOOD* FOR CONSUMERS: AT&T AND DIRECTV SAY THE ACQUISITION COULD MEAN NEW BUNDLES THAT WOULD BRING T-V AND INTERNET OPTIONS ACROSS ALL OF YOUR SCREENS, EVEN THOSE IN CARS AND AIRPLANES.

THE FATE OF THIS NEW ALLIANCE RESTS IN THE HANDS OF THE F-C-C.

"The Federal Communications Commission has a role to look at all these mergers, both individually and against the landscape that they're operating with, and say, 'Are these mergers in the public interest?'" Return to index of stories...

MOORE, OKLAHOMA WAS RIPPED APART.

natsot: "That day was the most terrifying day of my life."

SEVENTEEN MILES OF TERROR.

HOMES -ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOODS- COMPLETELY WIPED AWAY.

A YEAR LATER. THE PATH OF THE STORM LOOKS MUCH DIFFERENT.

MOST OF THE DEBRIS IS GONE. HOUSES AND BUSINESSES ARE COMING BACK.

- Home builder - :25 - :33

"Normally in the city of Moore, we build 125 homes a year. In the past year we have built 450 homes."

SINCE THE MIDDLE OF APRIL. THAT CONSTRUCTION MUST FOLLOW NEW CODES THAT REQUIRE

TORNADO SAFETY MEASURES INCLUDING HUNDREDS OF THESE METAL BRACES.

- Home builder - :42 -:51

"So in place of three, normal nails you're gonna have ten of what's called case-hardened nails, which is gonna make a tremendous difference."

ANOTHER DIFFERENCE - METAL STRAPS TO KEEP THE ROOF ATTACHED TO WALLS. AND THE WALLS TO THE HOME'S FOUNDATION.

THE FOUNDATION IS STILL ALL THAT'S LEFT OF DR. KEITH LAYNE'S OFFICE.

A YEAR AGO. DR. LAYNE WALKED THROUGH THE DEBRIS.

"There is not a day that goes by that I don't talk to a person who's having trouble with this./ does it ever go away, um, I don't know."

ONE THING THAT IS CLEAR. IT WILL TAKE MORE THAN A YEAR.

JAY GRAY. NBC NEWS. MOORE, OKLAHOMA.

YEAH, IN FACT WHEN YOU TALK TO FAMILIES. CITY OFFICIALS. AND CREWS ON THE GROUND. THEY'LL TELL YOU IT WILL BE 3-TO-4 YEARS BEFORE MOORE MAKES IT ALL THE WAY BACK.
