FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

!!!!NEED WX ANCHOR CG!!!!!

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"A stretch of dry weather"

Thanks to sunny skies, thermometer readings are already climbing into the lower half of the 80s. Through the afternoon just a few more fair weather clouds will be moving in from the east, otherwise plan on a mostly sunny day. Expect daytime highs to climb near 90° area wide with readings near the coast staying slightly cooler. Winds will remain breezy through the day with gusts near 20 to 25 mph.

As we head into the evening hours, mainly clear skies will persist and temperatures will settle into the upper 70s just after sunset. Quiet weather will return once again tonight with temperatures slowly falling into the middle 60s by tomorrow morning.

As high pressure remains the dominant feature in our forecast, not much will change as we head into Wednesday and beyond. Expect mostly to partly sunny skies tomorrow afternoon with a breeze out of the east. Daytime highs will top out in the upper 80s to lower 90s, with lows in the middle to upper 60s. Winds will become more southerly by mid week and as a result, our humidity values will begin to creep back up. A mainly dry pattern will hold through the end of the work week with afternoon highs reaching the lower 90s.

Overall, the upcoming holiday weekend looks to be in good shape. We'll see a mix of sun and clouds with a couple of afternoon isolated showers on Sunday and Monday. Return to index of stories...

JUST DAYS AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC OPENING OF THE 9/11 MEMORIAL MUSEUM -THERE'S CONTROVERSY AGAIN AT GROUND ZERO. PRAISED FOR ITS BEAUTY AND ITS DIGNITY - THERE'S GROWING CRITICISM OF HIGH ADMISSION FEES - $24 TO GET IN - AND THE SALE OF SOUVENIRS AT THE GIFT SHOP.

I think it's a revenue generating tourist attraction.

JIM RICHES SHARES THE SAME SENTIMENT SHOWN IN THIS NEW YORK POST HEADLINE TITLED, "little shop of horror".

ON SALE?

ITEMS SUCH AS SILK SCARVES WITH IMAGES OF THE TWIN TOWERS.

BRACELETS.

AND STUFFED ANIMALS.

NOT THE WAY RICHES SAYS HIS SON, JIMMY, SHOULD BE REMEMBERED A FIREFIGHTER KILLED ON THAT DAY.

Basically, they're making money off my son's dead body. I think that's disgusting.

What we know is it's the right thing that when visitors come here they want to take a keepsake away

JOE DANIELS IS THE PRESIDENT AND CEO OF THE SEPTEMBER 11TH MEMORIAL AND MUSEUM.

HE HAS SPENT THE LAST EIGHT YEARS DEVELOPING THE SITE, WHICH WILL COST AN ESTIMATED 64 MILLION PER YEAR TO RUN.

THE MUSEUM RECEIVES NO GOVERNMENT FUNDING AND RELIES ON DONATIONS, REVENUE FROM TICKETS. AND MONEY FROM THAT GIFTSHOP.

Should you be extra sensitive about what you sell there? for example like the outfits for a dog. is that appropriate to have at the gift shop?

You know the truth is this is the United States of America and the number one thing is if you don't like what we're selling. don't buy it.

The number one seller in or giftshop is a book called the Place of Remembrance which talks about the building of the memorial.

Do I expect to say everything we've done here is 100 percent right? There's always bumps in the road

LEE IELPI LOST HIS SON, JONATHAN, WHO WAS A FIRE FIGHTER, HERE.

AND WHILE NOT PERFECT, IELPI SAYS THE 911 MEMORIAL MUSEUM IS LIKE THE USS ARIZONA MEMORIAL IN PEARL HARBOR OR THE OKLAHOMA CITY NATIONAL MEMORIAL AND MUSEUM WHICH ARE ALSO LOCATED AT SACRED SITES AND HAVE GIFTSHOPS.

Someone has to pay for these things no matter how powerful it is.

FOR IELPI THE FEELING HE HAS FOR HIS SON WHEN HE SEES HIS NAME HERE AT THE REFLECTING POOL FAR OUTWEIGHS ANY CONTROVERSY.

It's reflecting absence. it's as if their souls are falling into the water.

A fitting tribute for Jonathan?

For all of them. Yes, absolutely.

THAILANDS ARMY MARITAL LAW-PKG

IN A COUNTRY SPLIT BY DEEP POLITICAL DIVISIONS, THE ARMY HAS NOW TAKEN CONTROL.

THAILAND'S ARMY DECLARED MARTIAL LAW, EARLY TUESDAY MORNING, POSTING SOLDIERS AT INTERSECTIONS AND DEPLOYING TANKS TO THE STREETS OF BANGKOK.

MILITARY OFFICIALS INSIST THE MOVE IS NOT A COUP D'ETAT BUT AN ATTEMPT TO ENSURE LAW AND ORDER AMID DEEP POLITICAL RIFTS AND PROTESTS THAT HAVE, AT TIMES, BECOME VIOLENT.

THE MOVE COMES TWO WEEKS AFTER THAILAND'S CONSTITUTIONAL COURT ORDERED THE REMOVAL OF CARETAKER PRIME MINISTER YINGLUCK SHINAWATRA.

HER SUPPORTERS -- THAILAND'S "RED SHIRT" PROTESTERS -- CALL HER REMOVAL A "JUDICIAL COUP." THEY SWARMED THE STREETS, CALLING FOR THE REMOVAL OF THE CURRENT CARETAKER GOVERNMENT.

THE ANTI-GOVERNMENT "YELLOW SHIRTS" ALSO CALL FOR A NEW GOVERNMENT -- BUT NOT THROUGH ELECTIONS, NOT BEFORE WIDESPREAD REFORM. THEY BELIEVE SHINAWATRA WAS A PUPPET FOR HER BROTHER, FORMER PRIME MINISTER THAKSIN SHINAWATRA, WHO WAS OUSTED IN A MILITARY COUP IN 2006 -- A LEADER FAVORED BY THE RED SHIRTS.

THE ARMY SHUT DOWN T-V AND RADIO STATIONS, TUESDAY, SAYING IT WANTED TO, QUOTE, "PREVENT ANY DISTORTIONS WHICH COULD LEAD TO MISUNDERSTANDS" AND "ENSURE THAT INFORMATION WILL BE DISTRIBUTED RIGHTLY."

U-S STATE DEPARTMENT SPOKESWOMAN JEN PSAKI ISSUED A STATEMENT, READING IN PART, "WE REMAIN VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE DEEPENING POLITICAL CRISIS IN THAILAND AND URGE ALL PARTIES TO RESPECT DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES, INCLUDING RESPECT FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH."

"Here it is in my bathroom here. Some object. Don't know what exactly it is, came through the roof."

WHAT STARTED OFF SOUNDING LIKE AN EXPLOSION HAS NOW TURNED INTO A MYSTERY FOR BILL HARDY.

"I first you know that a pipe or something had burst, but then I saw that."

LAYING ON A BED OF CRACKED TILES SAT THIS CHUNK OF METAL.

WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE BOLT HOLES HARDY THINKS IT DROPPED IN FROM THE SKY POSSIBLY A PART FROM AN AIRPLANE OR HELICOPTER. LUCKILY HE SAYS NO ONE WAS IN THE BATHROOM.

"We would have been hurt. I mean even the dog, just laying around in here would have been hurt or killed."

"Whatever came crashing into this bathroom and smashing into the tile is not only heavy, but no one seems to know what this piece of metal is and where it came from."

THE FAA RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING IT'S -- "INVESTIGATING WHETHER A PIECE OF METAL THAT REPORTEDLY FELL THROUGH THE ROOF OF A WEST PALM BEACH, FLA., HOUSE CAME FROM AN AIRCRAFT. FAA SAFETY INSPECTORS WITH EXPERTISE IN AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE WILL EXAMINE THE ITEM TO MAKE THE DETERMINATION.

"Objects don't just fall out of the sky for no reason. You know it came from someplace."

HARDY SAYS WHATEVER IT IS IT'S MADE HIM THINK ABOUT WHAT'S FLYING OVERHEAD.

"Pretty much like every time I come to the bathroom, I'm going to be like, hmmm I hope nothing comes through the roof again" Return to index of stories...

JOSH EGBERT REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

TEEN WINS WARREN BUFFET CONTEST-PKG

I knew that starting this new business, I need some kind of funding or to enter some kind of contest or to find an investment or something like that.

AT JUST 15-YEARS-OLD, JAKE JOHNSON IS ALREADY AN ENTREPRENEUR.

HE'S THE FOUNDER AND CREATOR OF BEAUX UP, A BOW-TIE COMPANY BASED IN NORTH CAROLINA.

IT'S ALSO A COMPANY THAT JUST WON JAKE 5-THOUSAND DOLLARS.

I was not even thinking about winning the contest, I was just thinking about getting to that point where I could meet Warren Buffett.

JAKE GOT THAT CHANCE THIS AFTERNOON.

HE TOOK PART IN BUFFETT'S SECRET MILLIONAIRE'S CLUB'S GROW YOUR OWN BUSINESS CHALLENGE.

JAKE TOOK THE TOP PRIZE.

I know that with this money, I can put it into website development and so that will get sells going because that's where most of our sales will come from.

They have ideas that, as an adult I wouldn't be able to come up with.

BUFFETT SAYS HE CREATED THE CHALLENGE TO SHARE HIS VALUES AND GOOD FINANCIAL HABITS WITH KIDS AT AN EARLY AGE.

It makes nothing but sense to get the right habits when you're young on financial matters and that's what these children are doing.

63-THOUSAND INDIVIDUALS AND TEAMS ENTERED THIS YEAR'S CONTEST.

THE THREE TEAMS AND FIVE INDIVIDUAL FINALISTS RANGE IN AGE FROM EIGHT TO 15.

Compared to the ideas I had as a kid was a lemonade stand or something like that and they come through with this high tech stuff, I'm really impressed.

BUFFETT SAYS THE BUSINESS IDEAS THESE KIDS COME UP WITH GET MORE INVENTIVE EACH YEAR.

AND THE KIDS, WELL THEY SAY THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING.

By starting young, I think it's just going to be amazing what I can accomplish in the future. Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX WALL

!!!NEED WX ANCHOR CG!!!

"I just screamed. I just screamed. I just screamed and a lot of thoughts started going through my head, because that's not the man I know. I would have never thought. That's not the man I know."

"Then you see him taunting her, like throwing her like he's gonna, then he's not, throwing her like he's gonna, then he's not. And then, what people don't know is also in the beginning of the video, he hoses her down with the water hose, like to.to kind of torture her that way."

"Why did you decide to call the police?"

"Somebody had to get that man off the streets. He had to be off the streets. At that point in time, I was more concerned for my kid's life; I was more concerned for my life; I didn't know who I was dealing with at the time; and I was very angry." Return to index of stories...

TO SEE AUDREY WALSTON MOVE TODAY, YOU'D NEVER GUESS HOW FAR SHE'S COME.

AUDREY WALSTON/HAS RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

RUNS:

2:43 It was painful to walk, to move, to put a shoe on. It got that I couldn't wear shoes because the foot had got quite deformed.

AUDREY HAS RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS. AN AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE, IT ATTACKS THE JOINTS THROUGHOUT THE BODY.

DR. ANDREW BELIS/ORTHOPEDIC FOOT & ANKLE SURGEON

RUNS:

1:06 And by doing that, it creates a lot of swelling, inflammation, pain. And that creates deformity if it left unchecked.

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO AUDREY- HER HANDS AND FEET WERE ESPECIALLY HARD HIT.

DR. ANDREW BELIS/ORTHOPEDIC FOOT & ANKLE SURGEON

RUNS:

01:27 It can affect the feet where the toes and the joints of the feet collapse or dislocate or angulate, usually in an outward appearance.

RUNS:

HER FEET WERE SO OUT OF JOINT….

RUNS:

AUDREY COULD BARELY FUNCTION. THE PAIN WAS UNBEARABLE.

AUDREY WALSTON/HAS RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

RUNS:

3:18 I was ready to chop a leg off if that would've taken some of the pain away or improved my quality of life.

THAT'S WHEN SHE MADE HER WAY TO AN ORTHOPEDIC FOOT SURGEON.

DR. ANDREW BELIS/ORTHOPEDIC FOOT & ANKLE SURGEON

RUNS:

19:10 She was in bad shape. She came in with a kind of 'walking on the ankles' and really severe everted, flat-foot type problem.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

By the time rheumatoid arthritis patients seek out surgery, they've usually been on medications for many years. Being a progressive disease, the joints are damaged over time. Doctors may use several surgical techniques from tendon lengthening to joint fusion to rebuild the foot from the ground up.

DR. ANDREW BELIS/ORTHOPEDIC FOOT & ANKLE SURGEON

RUNS:

18:03 We did some minimal invasive things up near her toes because the joints were not too, too far gone. 19:49 In the end we did multiple fusions and we used internal hardware to hold it in place. And she did very well.

HER FEET LOOK MUCH BETTER, BUT IT'S NOTHING COMPARED TO HOW SHE FEELS.

AUDREY WALSTON/HAS RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

RUNS:

6:01 I figured I won the lotto, getting around the way I do.

THERE'S NO STOPPING AUDREY NOW- WITH TWO GOOD FEET, SHE'S MOVED ON TO HAND SURGERY. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...
