FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"A stretch of dry weather"

Thanks to sunny skies, thermometer readings are already climbing into the lower half of the 80s. Through the afternoon just a few more fair weather clouds will be moving in from the east, otherwise plan on a mostly sunny day. Expect daytime highs to climb near 90° area wide with readings near the coast staying slightly cooler. Winds will remain breezy through the day with gusts near 20 to 25 mph.

As we head into the evening hours, mainly clear skies will persist and temperatures will settle into the upper 70s just after sunset. Quiet weather will return once again tonight with temperatures slowly falling into the middle 60s by tomorrow morning.

As high pressure remains the dominant feature in our forecast, not much will change as we head into Wednesday and beyond. Expect mostly to partly sunny skies tomorrow afternoon with a breeze out of the east. Daytime highs will top out in the upper 80s to lower 90s, with lows in the middle to upper 60s. Winds will become more southerly by mid week and as a result, our humidity values will begin to creep back up. A mainly dry pattern will hold through the end of the work week with afternoon highs reaching the lower 90s.

Overall, the upcoming holiday weekend looks to be in good shape. We'll see a mix of sun and clouds with a couple of afternoon isolated showers on Sunday and Monday. Return to index of stories...

BUT THIS FALL, SCHOOLS WILL HAVE TO GO FURTHER, REDUCING SODIUM LEVELS AND ONLY OFFERING WHOLE GRAINS.

THE SCHOOL NUTRITION ASSOCIATION, SAYS THE GUIDELINES GO TOO FAR.

"We need a little more time to get the kids used to what we're offering and have the products available that we can get at a reasonable cost and that students will accept."

NOW A HOUSE SUBCOMMITTEE IS CONSIDERING GIVING STRUGGLING SCHOOLS A ONE YEAR WAIVER FROM THE REQUIREMENTS.

IN RESPONSE TO COMPLAINTS ABOUT HIGHER FOOD COSTS, REDUCED PARTICIPATION IN THE SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM AND MORE UNWANTED FOOD ENDING UP IN THE TRASH.

IT'S A BIG MISTAKE ACCORDING TO NUTRITION ADVOCATES.

"Kids complain about school lunch, that's been happening for a long time. Kids also complain about math and science. That doesn't mean we stop teaching math just because kids would rather not learn it."

SUPPORTERS OF THE HEALTHIER STANDARDS SAY CUTTING SCHOOLS A BREAK, WILL HURT STUDENTS HEALTH IN THE LONG RUN.

THE USDA HAS ALREADY SHOWN SOME FLEXIBILITY. IN 2012, THEY CHANGED LIMITS ON PROTEINS AND GRAINS AFTER STUDENTS COMPLAINED THEY WERE HUNGRY.
