FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

MAINLY SUNNY AND WARM WITH MORE HUMIDITY ON THE WAY

One more mild morning underway for Southwest Florida this morning. Through the day, we'll still see mostly sunny skies, but the breezes will not be as strong as the have been lately. We expect winds from the east around 5 - 10 mph. Today those breeze will be light enough that we get the afternoon sea breeze to come ashore and cool the beaches in the late afternoon. There will just a bit more humidity today and humidity levels will be increasing for tomorrow on through the weekend. The highs today will reach into the mid and upper 80s at the beaches while inland areas reach into the lower 90s. For your weekend planning, we'll continue with highs in the lower 90s inland in the mid and upper 80s at the coastline, thanks to the sea breeze each afternoon.

The area of high pressure that has been firmly in place controlling our weather will loosen that control a bit through the weekend. That will allow for a few more clouds each day. By Sunday on into next week, it also allows for a stray shower to pop up. That best chance for rain will be aimed toward the inland areas on Sunday, and coverage will only be around 20%.

For your Memorial Day plans, we expect a rather typical Southwest Florida day for this time of year. It will be hot and humid with only an isolated chance for rain, mainly east of I-75. Return to index of stories...

STOCKS HAVE HAD A DECENT TWO DAY RUN BUT THE S&P 500 IS STILL ONLY UP 2 PERCENT YEAR TO DATE.

INTEREST RATES HOWEVER HAVE MOVED SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE THE BEGINNING OF YEAR PUSHING UP THE VALUES IN BONDS.

NICK CHLUMSKY WITH THE NOLTE WEALTH MANAGEMENT GROUP IS HERE TODAY TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE NOT IGNORING YOUR 401K PLAN AS THINGS CHANGE IN THE MARKETPLACE.

NICK? Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLASMA CG

· Just a quick note on the markets, yes the S&P 500 has managed to eek out a small gain for the year but both the Dow and the Nasdaq are both still negative year to date. The biggest movers in the first five months of the year have been your bonds, your utilities, and real estate investment trusts. And with interest rates having fallen over one half of a percent in the past five months and pushing these kinds of investments up in value, now might be a good time to revisit the asset allocation or the mix of stocks and bonds not just your brokerage accounts, but also the allocation and the specific investments in your 401K plan.

· 401Ks', in a lot of cases will make the majority of a retirees nest egg. In fact, according to the US Department of Labor, there are currently 640 thousand contribution plans most of which are 401K plans. Making up those plans are 88 million participants that have put away roughly 4.5 trillion dollars in savings. This is a big number. And despite the fact that a 401K will be the lion's share of many retirees' nest egg, a lot of times this investment is not actively monitored and reviewed and many times, just ignored.

· So my advice to all of you out there that have a 401K, partner with a financial advisor that will incorporate your 401K investments into your overall retirement plan so that you can review the plan's asset allocation, downside risk, and performance on a regular basis. In our practice, we request this information from our clients so that we can get a more accurate picture of the client's overall financial picture so that we can more appropriately make recommendations.

· Now, for you younger 401K participants, create an investing plan and stick to it. Set up an automatic distribution from your paycheck so you don't have to think twice about saving. A lot of 401K plans have a Roth feature where you can make after-tax contributions to it and when you withdraw those funds during retirement, both the contribution and any growth come out tax free.

· For you folks nearing retirement, make sure you review you asset allocation. It used to be that as you got close to retirement, the allocation to fixed income or bonds would increase. With interest rates still out all-times lows, it may not be appropriate to have the overwhelming majority of your investments in bonds at retirement. Also, when you do retire and separate from your employer, make sure you rollover your 401K to an IRA. This will give much more control and flexibility over investment options and will better allow your financial advisor to track your investments.

· Don't forget about your 401K. Make sure it is incorporated into your overall retirement plan and that it is reviewed on a regular basis. Return to index of stories...

GENERAL MOTORS HAS ALREADY RECALLED MORE CARS AND TRUCKS IN THE U.S. THIS YEAR THAN IT HAS SOLD HERE IN THE FIVE YEARS SINCE IT FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY.

BUT IS THE COMPANY JUST TRYING TO SAVE FACE AFTER THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SLAPPED IT WITH A FINE?

POPPY HARLOW INVESTIGATES. Return to index of stories...

GM RECALLS-PKG

11 RECALL ANNOUNCEMENTS IN A WEEK - AS GENERAL MOTORS RACKS UP 13.8 MILLION RECALLS IN THE U.S. ALONE SO FAR THIS YEAR.

"So this has been a banner year for GM in a bad way. They've had 29 separate recalls, so far this year, which is a record./Even for them, this is big."

so far this year GM HAS RECALLED MORE CARS THAN IT HAS SOLD SINCE IT EXITED BANKRUPTCY IN 2009.LEAVING JUST ABOUT EVERYONE WONDERING, WHAT'S GOING ON WITH GM?

"We've moved from a cost culture after the bankruptcy to a customer culture."

THE AUTOMAKER says the surge in recalls is because the company is holding itself to higher safety standards -- tackling problems more quickly. They also follow NEWLY MINTED CEO MARY BARRA's congressional testimony ABOUT WHY IT TOOK GM A DECADE TO REPORT AN IGNITION SWITCH DEFECT THAT HAS BEEN TIED TO AT LEAST 13 DEATHS.

"Employees of general motors from engineers, investigators, all the way up through executives were briefed on information associated with this recall."

THAT VIOLATION ALONE COST GM THE MAXIMUM $35 MILLION civil FINE - AND WILL LIKELY COST THE COMPANY SIGNIFICANTLY MORE IN VICTIM COMPENSATION AND potential OTHER FINES. THIS IS ALL ON TOP OF A CRIMINAL PROBE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE SURROUNDING THE IGNITION SWITCH DEFECT.

"My sincere apologies to everyone who has been affected by this recall, especially the families and friends who lost their lives or were injured. I are deeply sorry."

BUT BARRA IS NOT NEW TO GM. SHE HAS BEEN WITH THE COMPANY FOR 33 YEARS - FORMERLY VICE PRESIDENT OF GLOBAL PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT. LEAVING LINGERING QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT SHE KNEW, WHEN, ABOUT PRODUCT FLAWS IN GM VEHICLES.

"I was not aware that this was this issue until the recall was introduced on January 31st."

"Had GM acted differently, perhaps some of this tragedy might've been averted."

GM SAYS THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS DOING NOW - HENSE THE MOUNTAIN OF RECALLS. THE LAST THING THEY WANT IS TO BE ACCUSED OF DELAYING ANOTHER one.

"They're cleaning out the closets going through finding every issue they've had in the past that maybe should have been a recall and making it a recall."

"I think they just are having a bad time it wouldn't stop me from buying a GM."

"I probably wouldn't go buy GM knowing that. "

so far fixing all those recalled cars will cost it $1.7 BILLION DOLLARS this year --AND GM SHARES ARE DOWN 18% THIS YEAR. BUT WHAT MIGHT BE SURPRISING, IS ALL THESE RECALLS…HAVEN'T MADE A DENT IN GM'S SALES - which were 7% HIGHER IN APRIL THAN A YEAR AGO.

what GM is doing is talking saying we're gonna be a good corporate citizen- they said the same thing in the past/the proof is really in the pudding."

SO ARE MORE RECALLS COMING SOON? IN AN EMAIL TO CNN GM WROTE: "We are aggressively addressing issues as they come up."

WHEN IT COMES TO TECHNOLOGY, THE GAME-CHANGERS DON'T STOP AT MEDICAL CARE. COMPUTER ADVANCEMENTS ARE BETTERING THE PATIENT EXPERIENCE.

BRITTANY GARRETT/RN

RUNS:

5:59 With the EPIC system, if you've ever been to one of our hospitals recently, if you have a Lee Physician Group doctor we have your records here.

ELECTRONIC RECORDS FOLLOW PATIENTS THROUGH THEIR HEALTHCARE JOURNEY. TAKING THE BURDEN OFF PEOPLE TO REMEMBER THEIR HEALTH HISTORY.

BRITTANY GARRETT/RN

RUNS:

Some people are very surprised at how quickly they're seen, because we don't have to go through that long list of medications or that long list of surgical history because it's already in the computer.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Making the switch to E-records was only the beginning. Now people who engage with Lee Memorial Health System can monitor their medical records- by peeking into a patient portal called MyChart.

DR. LEAH LYNCH/INTERNAL MEDICINE

RUNS:

1:10 If you have a MyChart account you can actually communication with any of the offices which you've been seen.

DR. LEAH LYNCH WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN THE TRANSITION. SUMMARIES OF DOCTOR VISITS, LAB AND IMAGING REPORTS AND MEDICAL ORDERS ARE AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING. PATIENTS CAN ALSO MESSAGE THEIR DOCTOR OR REQUEST AN APPOINTMENT. ALL MADE POSSIBLE BY THE SWITCH TO PAPERLESS.

DR. LEAH LYNCH/INTERNAL MEDICINE

RUNS:

5:59 You need an electronic record to use a patient portal because that's the only way the data can go across an interface. So our first step was getting all of our hospitals and all of our offices in Lee Physician Group live.

MEDICAL RECORDS ARE SECURE, BECAUSE DATA NEVER LEAVES THE HEALTH SYSTEM'S SERVER. PATIENTS ARE IN ESSENCE LOOKING THROUGH A WINDOW. AS USES EXPAND, IT'S BECOMING A WINDOW TO THE FUTURE OF HEALTH CARE. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

CA KIDNAPPING-PKG

It started in an apartment in Santa Ana.POLICE SAY a 15-year old girl just arrived from Mexico who told police that on that day her mother's boyfriend, Isidro Garcia, sexually assaulted her.

Her mother filed a missing persons report, but her daughter never returned home.,

"SHE SAYS SHE RAN AWAY TO THIS PARK WHERE GARCIA FOUND HER AND DRUGGED HER. SHE SAYS SHE THEN WOKE UP IN A LOCKED GARAGE WITH NO IDEA WHERE SHE WAS."

Garcia, she told police, controlled her with threats he'd have her deported.produced false identities for himself and for her.and used those IDs to land nightshift janitorial work for both of them.

"TELLS OUR VICTIM, THIS IS YOUR NEW NAME. THIS IS THE NAME YOU'LL BE USING. GET TO KNOW THIS INFORMATION."

She says she did try for her freedom.

"HE CHASED HER DOWN AND SHE WAS PHYSICALLY BEATEN FOR HER EFFORTS."

She says the years went by.and when they settled in this town 20 miles from Santa Ana, neighbors saw them as a couple.with Garcia clearly in charge.

"HE WOULDN'T REALLY LET HER GO OUTSIDE. SHE'D BE OUT FOR 5 MINUTES OR SO, THEN HE'D PULL HER IN."

Still, they posted photos and videos on social media.had a baby girl and posted her pictures too.part of what the police see as an aspect of Stockholm syndrome-- a curious bonding between victim and alleged abductor.

"THEY GET BRAINWASHED, THEY GET BOUGHT INTO THE PROGRAM."
