SCATTERED RAIN THIS EVENING

Scattered downpours and isolated thunderstorms are expected along the I-75 corridor this evening as overnight temperatures retreat into the low 70s. Any showers or storms that do develop this evening along the seabreeze are expected to push westward over the Gulf after midnight, yielding dry conditions into early Wednesday morning.

Another day of isolated downpours and spotty thunderstorms is on tap for Wednesday during the late afternoon and evening timeframe as temperatures top out near a hot and humid 91 degrees. Coastal communities will be a few degrees cooler topping out in the upper 80s.

With a touch more moisture to work with later in the work week, seeing areas of rain and thunder more scattered in nature is likely on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures in the afternoon will max out in the upper 80s and low 90s.

A sneak peek at the weekend shows an isolated rain shower or thunderstorm chance both Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures are expected to hit 92 on Saturday afternoon. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Increasing rain prospects"

It was a hot Memorial Day with temperatures in the lower to middle 90s, but late day showers and storms were able to cool us off pretty quickly. The heat and humidity will remain with us for the rest of the upcoming week as rain chances begin to increase.

Sunny skies will prevail throughout the late morning hours with a few high clouds, and temperatures will warm into the middle to upper 80s by noon. Expect clouds to bubble up across the area during the day with partly sunny conditions during the afternoon. Daytime highs will climb into the lower to middle 90s, with slightly cooler readings along the beaches. An east and southeasterly wind flow will keep us in more of a classic summer- time pattern with the seabreeze pinned closer to the urban areas. This will keep the chance for a few isolated downpours in the forecast.

A few rain areas will linger through the evening hours as they push out over the Gulf of Mexico. Skies will eventually clear overnight and temperatures will settle into the lower 70s.

As more moisture builds into Southwest Florida, rain prospects will be on the rise by mid to late week. Our mornings will start off dry with scattered downpours and storms during the peak heating hours as we start to transition into more of a rainy season type pattern. Morning lows will run in the lower 70s, while afternoon highs climb into the lower 90s. Return to index of stories...

FRIDAY THE S&P 500 BROKE THROUGH THE 19 HUNDRED LEVEL FOR THE FIRST TIME AND SHOWED INVESTORS THAT THIS FIVE YEAR OLD BULL MARKET STILL HAS MOMENTUM.

OVER THE LONG WEEKEND, MANY INVESTORS WONDERED IF THIS MILESTONE MEANS CONCERN OR CELEBRATION.

JIM NOLTE WITH WELLS FARGO ADVISORS IS HERE TO DISCUSS THIS STOCK MARKET MILESTONE AND WHAT IT MEANS TO INVESTORS. Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLAS-(5)CG

· For the last three or four years the stock market has followed a pattern. The first quarter was very good. The second quarter was neutral to negative. The third quarter was negative to scary. Then, the fourth quarter ended on an up beat.

· 2014 has been a little different we started the year at market highs. Almost immediately investors saw across-the-board profit-taking. We saw the S&P 500 start the year at 1830 and drop almost 4 ½% to 1750 in about four weeks. Two weeks later the S&P 500 was back at the same level where it began the year.

· The market continued to march higher until the middle of April when it pulled back to a half percent.

· Since the middle of April the market has continued to push higher.

· If you look at a chart of the S&P 500 for the year, it shows a strong upward trend line. It's the volatility between points a and B that make investors nervous.

· So the question is, is 1900 and important level for the S&P 500?

· The stock market in general seems very healthy. Last Friday's close was a milestone for the S&P 500. It was also the first time that the S&P, Dow Jones average and the Nasdaq all closed with a 2014 day period.

· The stock market has overcome a lot of negative news including a very nasty winter that hurt our economy. We are also facing multiple geopolitical issues that are in the news daily. Not to mention that the Federal Reserve has announced that it is easing back on quantitative easing.

· For many analyst, zero interest rates are a key to the continuing health of the stock market some analysts now feel that the Fed will keep interest rates near zero for all of this year and some or all of 2015

· that could mean that the stock market has a lot further to move upward.

· And let's not forget about the good economic data that came in today data on durable goods, real estate, consumer confidence and other economic indicators were beating or meeting earlier indications.

· So let's play devil's advocate.

· The GDP numbers come out on Thursday and the assumption is they will be negative because of the harsh winter. That negative number is already baked into the market. But it will be interesting to see how the market reacts to a negative GDP number.

· Milestone numbers for the Dow and the S&P aren't easy to break through. Usually they are tested for a while to build a base before markets move higher.

· Another concern is the low volume we've been seeing. Markets continue to move higher when volume increases.

· Were also concerned that this rally seems to be focused on just a few sectors. We'd like to see a more broad-based rally.

· So what should an investor do at times like this? If you want to add funds to the market at this point the tried and tested strategy is called "dollar cost averaging".

· That just means begin investing a portion of the money that you want to commit to the market now and add to those positions over the next few weeks or even months.

· Dollar cost averaging can smooth out the bumps in the market that we will probably be seeing this summer. Return to index of stories...

IN TODAY'S HEALTH MATTERS AMY OSHIER EXPLAINS WHY THEY ARE SO DEADLY. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS-PKG

BONE CRUSHING TACKLES MAY PROVE BONE CHILLING FOR SPECTATORS, BUT STATISTICALLY SPEAKING, CYCLING IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FAR MORE TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURIES THAN FOOTBALL AND BASEBALL COMBINED.

DR. DEAN LIN/NUEROSURGEON

RUNS:

1:05 There was a bike race in Cape Coral about a year and a half ago. A guy had just taken his helmet off just for a few minutes and unfortunately his tire hit the guy in front of him's tire. And he basically went head-down.

MORE RECENTLY, NBC2 METEOROLOGIST JIM REIF DIED AFTER FALLING FROM HIS BIKE. HE WAS NOT WEARING A HELMET. DATA FROM 2009 FOUND THAT 90% OF BICYCLISTS KILLED IN THE US WERE NOT WEARING THEM EITHER. THE MAJORITY ARE MIDDLE-AGED MEN. THE COMBINATION OF SPEED AND FORCE CAUSING THEM CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE.

DR. DEAN LIN/NUEROSURGEON

RUNS:

2:05 There's a little bit of space in there, but the brain basically comes to an abrupt stop up against the skull.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTER

RUNS:

These closed head injuries occur when brain tissue impacts the skull. Depending on the severity it can cause bruising, bleeding, tissue damage and swelling. The buildup of pressure and swelling produce the most devastating outcome.

DR. DEAN LIN/NUEROSURGEON

RUNS:

2:16 Even in the absence of a blood clot the skull remains a hard, solid cave. It's not expanding anywhere, so those are the patients that need to go to surgery frequently and have some of the skull removed.

TO GIVE THE BRAIN ROOM TO EXPAND, PART OF THE SKULL IS OFTEN REMOVED. NEUROSURGEONS ADDRESS FLUID BUILDUP, CLOTTING AND ASSESS BRAIN ACTIVITY. SEVERE HEAD TRAUMAS OFTEN PROVE FATAL.

DR. DEAN LIN/NUEROSURGEON

RUNS:

:08 Yes, that's very common. Someone who comes in after a bad head injury, could be brain dead very quickly.:38 So it's a horrible situation.

Mr. Jay gotra: I have no comment.

Rossen: Do your telemarketers ever call people who are on the do not call list?

Mr. Gotra: Nope. I will not.

Rossen: It doesn't happen?

Mr. Gotra: No, unless they opt in with an opt information that they provide to us that makes us by law, that says if you opt in in writing, we can call you.

WHEN OUR STORY FIRST AIRED here on TODAY.THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION OPENED A FULL-SCALE INVESTIGATION INTO V-M-S.AND JUST DROPPED THE HAMMER.ORDERING A 3.4 MILLION DOLLAR PENALTY.saying the company is now 'PERMANENTLY RESTRAINED' FROM CALLING ANYONE ON THE DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.
