FIRST WEATHER-WX CENTER

SCATTERED RAIN THIS EVENING

Scattered downpours and isolated thunderstorms are expected along the I-75 corridor this evening as overnight temperatures retreat into the low 70s. Any showers or storms that do develop this evening along the seabreeze are expected to push westward over the Gulf after midnight, yielding dry conditions into early Wednesday morning.

Another day of isolated downpours and spotty thunderstorms is on tap for Wednesday during the late afternoon and evening timeframe as temperatures top out near a hot and humid 91 degrees. Coastal communities will be a few degrees cooler topping out in the upper 80s.

With a touch more moisture to work with later in the work week, seeing areas of rain and thunder more scattered in nature is likely on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures in the afternoon will max out in the upper 80s and low 90s.

A sneak peek at the weekend shows an isolated rain shower or thunderstorm chance both Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures are expected to hit 92 on Saturday afternoon. Return to index of stories...

A 24 MILLION DOLLAR ONE.

NBC 2'S JOE ROETZ EXPLAINS HOW IT MAY BENEFIT TAXPAYERS. Return to index of stories...

LEE COUNTY BUDGET-BNR-PKG

BEHIND THE WALLS OF LEE COUNTY'S COURTHOUSE-

COUNTY STAFFERS ARE CHIPPING AWAY AT A 24 MILLION DOLLAR PROBLEM.

that's a very large number, shocking actually.

TODAY COMMISSIONERS SAT DOWN FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR WITH COUNTY STAFF TO FIGURE *THAT OUT-

AS THEY HASHED OUT NEXT YEAR'S BUDGET.

THE STARTING POINT - KEEP ALL COUNTY SERVICES LEVEL WITH LAST YEAR.

THE PROBLEM- IT LEAVES THEM WITH A 24 MILLION DOLLAR GAP TO PLUG.

we know what the expenses are to keep service levels where to keep service levels at what they are - but we don't know what money we are going to use to pay the bills.

one area that's off the table is Conservation 20-20 dollars. That pot of cash was tapped last year to cover a near 30 million dollar deficit.

THE COUNTY CONTROVERSIALLY DIVERTED TAX REVENUE AWAY FROM THE RURAL LAND PROTECTION PROGRAM-

BEFORE IT EVER HIT THE ACCOUNT.

ADVOCATES WORRIED IT WOULD HAPPEN THIS YEAR TOO.

AVOIDING BACKLASH--

COMMISSIONERS WILL DIVERT AGAIN - BUT THIS TIME, IT LOOKS LIKE IT COULD GO BACK TO HOMEOWNERS.

any bit helps, especially when it comes to someone's property.

INSTEAD - STAFF WILL LOOK AT DIPPING INTO COUNTY RESERVES - A POT FLUSH WITH 94 MILLION DOLLARS.

STAFF WILL PRESENT A BUDGET SCENARIO TO COMMISSIONERS IN JUNE - WITH A FINAL ONE ON THE BOOKS BY OCTOBER.

IN LEE COUNTY, JOE ROETZ, NBC 2. Return to index of stories...

Sot-chopper fire official

Right now the last acreage count was about 25 acres and that was a

little whole ago so were probably at 30 acres at this point.

A busy day for fire officials here in collier county. we were a little

limited as to what we could see on the ground so we decided to take a

different look and come above the fire.

So now we are in our chopper you can see below this is around mile

marker 97 On I 75 this blaze started around 1230 this afternoon fire

officials tell us it's covering about 3 acres. As you can see there

are crews below working To put the fire out from the ground you can

still see flames even from above. We also have crews flying around

monitoring the blaze they tell us that even though they're doing

their best to contain it they have 0% contained at this point.

Sot chopper fire officials

If they dig a line then they can't go any further bc they hit the dirt.

Sot fire officials

The dozers have made contact with the fire and they're starting to black line.

As crews work to get both fires 100% contained. Troopers ask that drivers

be mindful of possible road closures. Live in collier county Lindsey Fry
