Today's Weather Story

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Afternoon downpours"

Over the last couple of days, our atmosphere has become a bit more unstable allowing for storms to form across the peninsula. Over the next few afternoons, we'll be tracking increasing rain prospects as we begin our transition into the rainy season.

We have another mild and muggy start to the day, with temperatures hovering in the upper 60s to lower 70s. A few clouds will get the day going, but as we head through the afternoon those clouds will be on the increase. Much of the day will end up dry, and temperatures will climb into the lower 90s area wide. As the seabreeze kicks in, beaches will cool into the upper 80s and we'll notice a scattering of downpours and storms late in the day, especially across our urban locations.

Just like the last few days, any leftover rains will eventually make their way closer to the coast before heading out over the gulf waters. Overnight, skies will become partly cloudy and temperatures will settle into lower 70s.

As moisture increases across Southwest Florida, expect the showers and storms to become a little more widespread by Thursday. Afternoon highs will remain in the upper 80s with plenty of humidity. Overnight lows will stay seasonable in the lower 70s. Scattered rain will stay in the forecast through Friday, before slightly drier weather moves in by early next week.
