FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

SPOTTY STORMS THIS EVENING

Isolated downpours and thunderstorms are expected this evening in Southwest Florida. Any storms that do develop will bring the chance for locally heavy rain with some strong wind gusts and frequent lightning.

Rain and thunder activity that is able to appear on radar this evening should generally migrate westward over the Gulf late this evening and be out of the picture after midnight. Temperatures are expected to return to the low 70s early Thursday morning.

Scattered showers and storms are expected in the region both Thursday and Friday. Temperatures are anticipated to reach 89 degrees on both afternoons.

A reduced chance for storms exists this weekend, with rain prospects returning near 30%. Highs are expected back in the upper 80s and low 90s.

For long range planning, at this point in time it appears a 20 to 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms will be in the region on Monday and Tuesday as we begin the new month of June. High temperatures look to go a touch warmer in the mid-afternoon hours returning near 92 degrees both days. Return to index of stories...

ALVA LIBRARY FUNDING-BNR-PKG

ALVA HAS A LOT OF FIRSTS FOR LEE COUNTY.

first Schoolhouse, first church, first bridge

AND ONE IS JUST A LITTLE OFF THE BEATEN PATH.

LEE COUNTY'S OLDEST LIBRARY IS THE PRIDE AND JOY OF THE ALVA GARDEN CLUB.

I immediately fell in love with the building and history.

BETTY BALLARD IS JUST ONE OF MANY WHO OVERSEES THE BUILDING AND ALL THE ARTIFACTS INSIDE.

FROM ART TO AUTHENTIC CLOTHING WORN BY THOMAS EDISON'S WIFE, MINA.

all of this is the tusk of a mastadon found in the Caloosahatchee river.

THE BUILDING WENT UP IN 1909.

AND MORE THAN A CENTURY LATER, IS WEARING DOWN.

the problem is here - with water damage at the corner of the building, and it stretches up the entire length of the wall.

we'd lose the roof, walls and then it would crumble.

THE GARDEN CLUB IS COMMITING 25-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO BEGIN FIXING IT.

BUT THEY'RE ASKING LEE COUNTY TO KICK IN ANOTHER 25-GRAND TO MATCH.

I would like to see it done. It obviously needs a lot of repairs if you look at the building just from the outside it needs a lot of work.

EVEN AS LEE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS BEGIN BATTLING A MULTIMILLION DOLLAR BUDGET DEFICIT -

THIS FUNDING HAS ALREADY BEEN SET ASIDE.

AND BALLARD SAYS IT WILL BE WORTH EVERY PENNY.

I think it is a piece of history that would be sad to lose
