ABUSE OF POWER ALLEGATIONS ARE RACKING UP AGAINST LEADERS AT A LOCAL PRISON.

WITHIN THE LAST MONTH AND A HALF, TWO INMATES HAVE DIED INSIDE CHARLOTTE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION IN PUNTA GORDA -

TONIGHT, ONLY NBC-2'S LUCAS SEILER REVEALS COMPLAINTS OF A PATTERN OF ABUSE.

HE'S LIVE IN THE NEWSROOM TONIGHT. Return to index of stories...

CCI UPDATE-NSRM (RTR-1)

SOME OF THESE DOCUMENTS DATE BACK TO 2008 - ALL OF THEM COLLECTED BY AN INMATE NAMED MOISES BURE - WE'VE CONFIRMED SEVERAL OF THE COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED WITH THE U.S. DIVISION ON CIVIL RIGHTS.

NOW, A FORMER CORRECTIONAL OFFICER AND FAMILY MEMBER OF AN INMATE KILLED INSIDE CCI IN *2003* IS SPEAKING OUT ONLY TO NBC-2 HOPING FOR CHANGE INSIDE THIS INSTITUTION. Return to index of stories...

CCI UPDATE-BNR-PKG

FROM ALLEGED CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS TO CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT - NBC 2 CONTINUES TO UNCOVER COMPLAINTS THAT OFFICIALS INSIDE THE CHARLOTTE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION ARE ABUSING THEIR POWER.

ONE LETTER FROM INMATE MATTHEW WALKER CLAIMS HE WAS FORCED REPEATEDLY TO EAT ROTTEN FOOD.

WALKER DIED INSIDE CCI APRIL 11TH AFTER SOURCES SAY HE WAS HANDCUFFED IN HIS CELL, BEATEN AND REFUSED MEDICAL ATTENTION.

Mae Atkins, Matthew Walker's sister "He beat my brother to death! Oh my god."

JUST WEEKS LATER, REPORTS OF YET ANOTHER DEATH SURFACED - THIS TIME, DAMION FOSTER.

THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT OUT OF THESE HUNDREDS OF PAGES OF DOCUMENTS IS REFUSAL OF MEDICAL ATTENTION BY STAFF - SOMETHING TRACY BEAVER SAYS HER FAMILY MEMBER SUFFERED.

Tracy Beaver, ex-CO/Family member of deceased inmate "As an ex-CO. as a sister-in-law, as a person in general. it just. it breaks my heart."

HER BROTHER-IN-LAW, CHARLIE FUFSTON, WAS KILLED INSIDE CCI IN 2003 BY OTHER INMATES - AN OFFICER WAS ALSO KILLED.

BEAVER - A FORMER CORRECTIONAL OFFICER HERSELF IN HENDRY COUNTY - SAYS THE STATE TRIED COVERING UP A CRIME.

Beaver "Paramedics were prevented from the COs from going in there for medical assistance for fear of contaminating the crime scene."

THE STATE ENDED UP PULLING LIFE SUPPORT - FUFSTON'S FAMILY HAD NO CHOICE IN THE MATTER.

Beaver "To this day, they still have no closure on this."

AND HER BIGGEST FEAR IS THIS CULTURE CONTINUING INSIDE CCI.

"That was in 2003 and we're still hearing it, so. it seems like it's many years happening."

TAKE LIVE/COME OUT ON GPX

HERE'S THE LIST OF CCI OFFICERS WHO HAVE ALLEGEDLY BEATEN INMATES WITHOUT REASON - WE'RE WAITING TO HEAR FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS ABOUT IF THEY'VE RECEIVED COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEM. Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

SPOTTY STORMS THIS EVENING

Isolated downpours and thunderstorms are expected this evening in Southwest Florida. Any storms that do develop will bring the chance for locally heavy rain with some strong wind gusts and frequent lightning.

Rain and thunder activity that is able to appear on radar this evening should generally migrate westward over the Gulf late this evening and be out of the picture after midnight. Temperatures are expected to return to the low 70s early Thursday morning.

Scattered showers and storms are expected in the region both Thursday and Friday. Temperatures are anticipated to reach 89 degrees on both afternoons.

A reduced chance for storms exists this weekend, with rain prospects returning near 30%. Highs are expected back in the upper 80s and low 90s.

For long range planning, at this point in time it appears a 20 to 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms will be in the region on Monday and Tuesday as we begin the new month of June. High temperatures look to go a touch warmer in the mid-afternoon hours returning near 92 degrees both days.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...
