FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

SCATTERED STORMS EXPECTED TODAY

Partly cloudy skies are expected to linger through the late morning hours today. There is plenty of warm, humid air in place across Southwest Florida. That warm humid air will lead to clouds building by mid-day. Winds from the ESE at 5-10 will turn more southerly then onshore this afternoon. We'll have a few isolated storms coming across the state on that easterly flow. Then, that afternoon sea breeze will be just what we need to really get scattered storms going. Expect more storms today than yesterday with heavy rain, lots of lightning and gusty winds.

As far as temperatures go, we'll top out near 90 degrees today and each of the next few days. Lows will stay in the lower 70s each morning.

Scattered showers and storms stay in the forecast tomorrow and could once again get going by around the mid-day time frame. Scattered PM storms stay in the forecast for Saturday. For Sunday and into next week, we'll keep isolated storms in the forecast each afternoon. Return to index of stories...

"there's good news for drivers this year: Some analysts are predicting the best summer gas prices since 2010."

OF COURSE, BY THE NUMBERS YOU'RE DRIVING MORE FROM MAY THROUGH AUGUST… SO YOU MIGHT STILL END UP WITH BIGGER THAN USUAL BILLS.

BEING A SMART DRIVER CAN HELP-- NO AGGRESSIVE STOPS AND STARTS, STICKING TO THE SPEED LIMIT-- BUT YOU'LL GET AN EVEN BIGGER IMPACT BY BEING A SMART CONSUMER.

MAP OUT YOUR TRIP. APPS INCLUDING GASBUDDY AND AAA TRIPTIK HELP YOU FIND THE CHEAPEST GAS PRICES ALONG YOUR PLANNED ROUTE. IN A GIVEN CITY, THERE CAN BE A PRICE GAP OF AS MUCH AS 50 CENTS A GALLON BETWEEN THE HIGHEST AND THE BEST PRICE. AND YOU MAY NOT NEED TO GO MORE THAN A BLOCK OR TWO OUT OF YOUR WAY. THERE'S ALSO FUELCASTER.COM, WHICH CAN TELL YOU IF YOU'RE BETTER OFF FILLING UP TODAY OR TOMORROW, BASED ON WHERE PRICES ARE HEADING.

LOAD YOUR WALLET. SOME STATIONS OFFER BETTER PRICES DEPENDING ON HOW YOU PAY. YOU MIGHT SAVE 5 OR 10 CENTS A GALLON BY PAYING WITH CASH. WAL-MART OFFERS 10 TO 15 CENTS OFF PER GALLON WITH A STORE GIFT CARD OR CREDIT CARD. AND CUMBERLAND FARMS HAS A SMART PAY APP THAT KNOCKS OFF 10 CENTS A GALLON.

ROAD TRIP IN JUNE. GASBUDDY.COM'S PATRICK DEHAAN EXPECTS PRICES WILL HIT THEIR LOW POINT IN MID TO LATE JUNE. SO IF YOU WANT TO TAKE A LONG ROAD TRIP, THAT MIGHT BE THE IDEAL TIME TO DO IT. PRICES TEND TO MORE VOLATILE IN JULY AND AUGUST ONCE HURRICANE SEASON IS IN FULL FORCE. Return to index of stories...

COLUMBINE PRINCIPAL LAST DAY-PKG

"Thank you so much, appreciate it."

If there was ever a time.

"Ha, you're gonna miss me."

To get the principal to sign their yearbook.

"There we go ladies, thank you. Good luck with finals."

This is that time.

"Are you ready for summer?"

Frank DeAngelis spends his last moments with students as their principal.

"I'm looking down that hallway and I see 35 years just before my eyes."

17 years as a social studies teacher and coach. 18 years as principal. And DeAngelis says he needed time. 2 hours before students got to school.

"I just needed that time in the building because I knew once teachers started arriving that I would have no time to myself and I needed the time to reflect and it was good."

Reflect over the 35 years. Reflect over the one day. The day 12 students and one teacher were shot to death. And how DeAngelis worked to bring this school back.

"I saw a community come together to rebuild. I saw a community come together that was more passionate and caring and taking care of each other."

"Good morning, Rebels, this is Mr. De. This is the last time I'll get a chance to address you."

"Even though, I'm not gonna be your principal, you're still gonna be my kids."

"Love you guys, good luck"

"I started choking up when I did my announcement at the very end, I said, if I come out in the hallway, I'll be fine and that was not smart. "

Because there are some words that are priceless.

"Being in this school really changed me and brought me to maturity and I have you to thank. Because you kinda, I'm proud of you."

There are some emotions.

"Thank you for being more of a father to me than my dad ever was."

That cannot be contained.

"It makes me feel good that they want me to stay and they're not saying thank goodness you're leaving."

And. Though the times have been meaningful.

"I didn't realize, it's over. I mean it is over."

Every time must come to an end.

"I was hoping that that when they walk out of here, they realize you treat people the way you want to be treated." Return to index of stories...

WHATEVER YOU WANT. YOU CAN FIND SOMEONE SELLING IT ON CRAIGSLIST.

"over the weekend, sold quite a few things on craigslist."

"we were cleaning out the house. some of the things we haven't used forever."

AFTER DAWN STOHS POSTED HER AD ONLINE, SHE MET WITH THE BUYERS AND POCKETED THE CASH. NO PROBLEMS.

"you've heard the horror stories out there and i think you know the bad situations that have happened."

STOHS KNOWS THE DO`S AND DON`TS OF BUYING AND SELLING ON CRAIGLIST.

FOR STARTERS, SHE NEVER MEETS ANYONE WHEN SHE`S HOME ALONE.

"you're always leery of people coming to your house. and that's why i mean, we always try to keep things- larger furniture stuff that we've sold, we've always moved it to the garage to keep people from coming into the house."

"for the right person, it gives them an opportunity to do something bad. to rob you or steal your property."

THAT'S WHY ANKENY POLICE ARE OFFERING UP THEIR PARKING LOT TO DO BUSINESS.

THEY WEREN'T PROMPTED BY A SPECIFIC CASE. OFFICIALS SAY THEY JUST WANT TO PREVENT ANYONE FROM FALLING VICTIM TO A SCAM OR ANY HARM. WHEN ONE YOU LIKELY HAS A POCKET FULL OF CASH.

"if it keeps us from taking a theft report or a robbery report later on, it's well worth it."

WELL-LIT AT NIGHT. THE POLICE PARKING LOT IS MONITORED BY SECURITY CAMERAS 24- HOURS A DAY.

"that's a place I hadn't even thought about. But it makes sense. Total sense to go to the ultimate public place that is safe."

FOR POLICE, KEEPING BUYERS AND SELLERS SAFE IS THE BEST DEAL OF ALL.
