FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

SOME STORMS THIS EVENING

Scattered downpours and thunderstorms are expected to continue this evening along Southwest Florida's I-75 corridor.

Any storms that move across the region this evening will come with times of heavy rainfall, gusty wind and lightning.

The activity is expected to pushward northwestward over the Gulf of Mexico and begin tapering off in intensity during the evening, with conditions calming down further throughout the overnight time frame. Low temperatures tonight are anticipated to cool to around 72 degrees.

The weather scenario looks rather similar for Friday. Once again scattered showers, downpours and thunderstorms are expected with the influence of the sea breeze. Temperatures are expected to max out from the upper 80s in coastal communities to low 90s for areas further inland.

Scattered PM storms stay in the forecast for the upcoming weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday will bear the chance for some isolated showers or storms with highs topping out in the 90s.

Looking more long range at the forecast, the upcoming work week looks to feature daily high temperatures in the low 90s, with the chance of some showers or storms developing each day, mainly in the late afternoon time periods. Return to index of stories...

EVEN THOUGH FINANCIAL MARKETS ARE AT ALL-TIME HIGHS AND HOUSEHOLD NET WORTH IS ON THE RISE, MANY STILL FEAR GOING BROKE IN RETIREMENT.

NICK CHLUMSKY IS HERE TODAY FROM THE NOLTE WEALTH MANAGEMENT GROUP TO DISCUSS THE CONCERN AND THE STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TO HELP EASE THESE FEARS.

NICK? Return to index of stories...

WELSS FARGO-PLASMA

Well first, most people fear what they don't know or can't understand. It's kind of like have a medical problem and not really knowing what the diagnosis is. Sure, it's natural for all of us to be a little bit nervous about making it to and through retirement, but fearing the ability to get through retirement comfortably I think is probably more symptomatic of poor planning or no plan at all.

· There are so many variables and events that can impact your retirement. Not having a plan in place to address the obstacles and challenges that life can present at any moment is like driving from one side of town to the other blind-folded. A well-developed retirement plan addressing risk and opportunities will help you sleep better at night and really allow you to make more informed financial decisions during your lifetime. So here are a few areas to consider when developing your plan.

· First, make sure you are balancing your budget and that the budget includes a line item for savings. A recent study by Bank of America revealed that of a 1,000 people surveyed who feared going broke in retirement, approximately 30% were not willing to cut back on discretionary expenses like entertainment, eating out, and vacations. Balancing the budget has got to be a non-negotiable. Spending more than you have will set you up for failure in the long run.

· Second, develop a detailed retirement savings and investment plan. The first step of the plan will be to determine how much after-tax income you will need at retirement to sustain you through retirement. From this income number, you can back into how much you will need to save every year at an assumed rate of return to build a nest egg large enough to generate that income. And with this information you can create a savings schedule and investment strategy that will allow you to reach that nest egg goal.

· Third, plan for the unexpected or curve balls in life. Saving and investing to build a nest egg is great. But if you haven't put together a risk-management plan, an unforeseen unfortunate event could rip your retirement plan apart. So make sure you have all of your insurances up to date and in order. These would include health insurance, car insurance, homeowner's insurance and in some cases an umbrella policy for general liability. When building a nest egg, remember that wealth protection can be just as important as wealth creation.

· Putting all of the pieces of the retirement plan puzzle can seem daunting without an organized plan in place. If you aren't confident that you can get to and through retirement comfortably, call you financial advisor to begin the putting a plan together that will give you a clearer picture of the future and more peace of mind.

CRASH PREVENTION-TC MON

NEW CRASH TEST RESULTS ARE IN.

TODAY EXPERTS ARE CLAIMING A BETTER AUTOBRAKE SYSTEM IN VEHICLES HELPS CARS PERFORM BETTER AND LIKELY SAVE LIVES.

NBC'S CHRIS CLACKUM TAKES AN IN-DEPTH LOOK AT THE TECHNOLOGY THAT COULD SOON BE ON ALL OF OUR CARS. Return to index of stories...

CRASH PREVENTION-PKG

OF THE 24 VEHICLES RECENTLY TESTED FOR THEIR CRASH PREVENTION CAPABILITIES.

.21 EARNED RATINGS OF "ADVANCED" OR "SUPERIOR" FROM THE INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY. WHO ALSO HAD HIGH PRAISE FOR AUTOMAKERS.

"That's the best scenario is that you avoid the crash. And the automakers are working hard on this. They see it as a competitive advantage to be on the cutting edge of safety"

THE RATINGS ARE BASED ON VEHICLES WITH A WARNING ALARM.

.AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY. AN AUTOBRAKING SYSTEM. THAT RESEARCHERS SAY. EVEN IF IT DOESN'T PREVENT THE CRASH.WILL REDUCE THE SPEED.

"And reducing the speed reduces the damage to both vehicles involved and also reduces the likelihood that anybody in either vehicles will be hurt"

LUXURY CARS AND SUV'S.FROM BMW.AND MERCEDES. MADE UP A BIG CHUNK OF THE TEST GROUP.

.BUT MORE MAINSTREAM RIDES LIKE BUICK.CHEVROLET.DODGE. AND TOYOTA ALSO RECEIVED HIGH RATINGS.

.FOR HAVING A CAMERA, RADAR OR LASER THAT MONITORS THE ROAD AHEAD.

"And if the system senses an imminent crash and the driver doesn't react, the vehicle itself can brake automatically"

THE INSURANCE INSTITUTE EXPECTS AUTOBRAKING, CRASH PREVENTION TO BE STANDARD ON MOST VEHICLES WITHIN A FEW YEARS.

WHILE THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION COULD PROPOSE MANDATING IT EVEN SOONER.
