CITY LEADERS SAY THEY'VE ALSO TAKEN NOTE

WHICH IS WHY AS THEIR 30 YEAR OLD LEASE AGREEMENT WITH LCEC COMES TO A CLOSE

THE CITY IS LOOKING TO PART WAYS WITH THE ELECTRICAL POWER UTILITY

02:58:35 "As long as it's cheaper I'm up for it" Lopez

THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC UTILITY OPTION IS ONE OF THREE THE CITY IS LOOKING INTO.

LAST WEEK THEY DECIDED TO PAY 24-THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR A STUDY TO LOOK AT ALL THE OPTIONS ON THE TABLE

02:33:53 "it's one of those things that have to do to make sure we're getting the best rates we can for residents"

THE OTHER OPTIONS- FIND A DIFFERENT PROVIDER, OR RENEW THE LEASE AGREEMENT WITH LCEC.

02:59:45 " We shut the lights off we don't keep all the lights on" Phyllis Spadola

OTHER RESIDENTS LIKE PHYLLIS SPADOLA SAY THEY DON'T CARE WHO THEY'RE PAYING - THEY JUST WANT A CHEAPER BILL

02:59:30 " If they can find something better, yeah definitely!"

CITY LEADERS SAY ITS NOTHING PERSONAL AGAINST LCEC- AND IF THE STUDY PROVES THEY'RE THE BEST OPTION THEY'LL CONTINUE THE PARTERSHIP

02:34:03 "is it cost effective, will it do what we need it to do, and then may be give us something to back to LCEC and say our rates are great thank you, or could we work on this and may lower this in the area" Sawicki Return to index of stories...

IMAGINE DRIVING ALONG WHAT SEEMS LIKE A FLAT, STURDY ROAD WHEN THE GROUND BENEATH YOU LITERALLY BEGINS OPENING UP.

Leighton McKinnon, Port Charlotte "That poor lady… I hope she got a new car out of it."

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED LAST DECEMBER ON KENILWORTH BOULEVARD IN PORT CHARLOTTE - AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED.

Leighton McKinnon, Port Charlotte "Listening to your broadcasts and reading the local paper, I see that there has been trouble in the past."

THE CULVERT RUNNING UNDER THIS STREAM ALSO RUNS UNDERNEATH KENILWORTH BOULEVARD - IT WAS OLD AND COLLAPSED BEFORE THE COUNTY COULD REPLACE IT… AND RIGHT NOW, *DOZENS* OF CULVERTS IN PORT CHARLOTTE ARE AT RISK FOR GIVING OUT.

Mariem Bullard, Lives next to construction "I don't know if it would have collapsed, you just don't know… with the traffic going back and forth almost every day… you just don't know."

MARIEM BULLARD LIVES RIGHT NEXT TO THE PROJECT AIMED AT INCREASING WATER FLOW CAPACITY WITHIN THE SUNSET WATERWAY.

IT'S CRITICAL BECAUSE THE WATERWAY RUNS BENEATH SEVERAL ROADS IN NORTHWEST PORT CHARLOTTE…

Mariem Bullard, Lives next to construction "I know it has to get done… but it's a pain… it's going to be until September, but I think it's going to be until October."

THIS PROJCET IS SCHEDULED TO WRAP UP BY FALL, BUT MORE THAN A DOZEN PIPES NEED TO BE REPLACED, AND THAT WILL TAKE YEARS.

AS FAR AS REPARING THIS ROAD - COUNTY OFFICIALS TELL ME IT COULD TAKE SIX MONTHS OF MORE.
