THE WATERS ARE CALM RIGHT NOW.

"if you have a plan and you know what you're doing enjoy the summer. And if a storm threatens you know what to do, that's very empowering, but when people don't know what to do. the forecast is issued and the watches go up and people have questions that's when we see the anxiety go up".

AS HURRICANE SEASON OPENS THIS WEEKEND. FORECASTERS ARE PREDICTING A BELOW-AVERAGE SUMMER WITH 8-13 TROPICAL STORMS. 3-6 HURRICANES. ONE OR TWO OF THESE MAJOR STORMS.

"the seasonal forecast, it's for the scientists - for the public your message doesn't change, it's always about what people need to do to get ready".

BECAUSE IT ONLY TAKES ONE STORM TO WIPE AWAY A COMMUNITY.

TO ALTER LIVES FOREVER.

WITH THAT IN MIND, PRESIDENT OBAMA TOURED FEMA HEADQUARTERS THIS AFTERNOON. AND PROMISED THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WILL BE READY TO RESPOND IF A STORM STRIKES THE COAST.

"States still have the primary role in preparing for and responding to disasters, and we'll continue to make sure that they get the full resources that they need, the support they need to back them up."
