NEW AT SIX.

THE LEADER OF THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA ADDRESSES ALLEGATIONS THAT HE BULLIES PRIESTS IN THE DIOCESES AND SPENDS THE CHURCH'S MONEY EXCESSIVELY.

IN A RARE MOVE, BISHOP FRANK DEWANE ORDERED EVERY PRIEST IN THE DIOCESE OF VENICE TO ATTEND A MEETING TODAY.

THE MEETING COMES AFTER NBC-2 EXPOSED A LETTER OUTLINING THE ACCUSATIONS AGAINST BISHOP FRANK DEWANE.

NBC-2 INVESTIGATOR JIM SPIEWAK BROKE THIS STORY LAST WEEK.

HE IS THE ONLY REPORTER WITH DETAILS ABOUT WHAT THE BISHOP SAID IN RESPONSE. Return to index of stories...

IT ALL STARTED WHEN THIS LETTER SIGNED BY 10 PRIESTS CONCERNED ABOUT BISHOP FRANK DEWANE'S LEADERSHIP WAS SENT TO THE POPE'S AIDE ASKING FOR HELP.

Nats --

NBC2 HAS EXCLUSIVELY LEARNED BISHOP DEWANE CALLED FOR A MANDATORY MEETING OF ALL PRIESTS TWO DAYS AGO. THE BISHOPS MEMO READS IN PART -

GRAPHIC --

In light of the recent publicity given to the Diocese of Venice, we need to meet as the Bishop and Priests. It is an expectation that all Priests of the Diocese and those on Official Assignment will attend.

MY SOURCES SAY THE BISHOP DIRECTLY REFUTES ACCUSATIONS OF LACK OF FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY, VIOLATING CHURCH LAW AND BULLYING.

WHEN ASKED ABOUT MORALE IN THE DIOCESE, 3/4 OF THE PRIESTS AGREED IT IS LOW.

I'M TOLD SOME PRIESTS TOLD THE BISHOP DIRECTLY THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIS LEADERSHIP TO WHICH HE RESPONDED "IF I ACT THAT WAY CONFRONT ME ABOUT IT."

OTHER SOURCES TELL ME THE BISHOP WAS POLITE, OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS AND ASKS FOR THOSE WITH CONCERNS TO COME FORWARD.

BUT OTHERS CONTINUE TO SAY THEY FEAR RETALIATION. Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

TRACKING MORE STORMS FOR THE WEEKEND

Rainy season has begun across Southwest Florida, with Friday again featuring plenty of heat, humidity and scattered showers and storms. The storms will again diminish this evening, as temps fall into the 70s. Expect another warm and humid overnight, with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s.

More storms are expected for the weekend. Saturday will feature partly cloudy skies in the morning, with scattered storms developing in the early afternoon. This activity may develop a little closer to the Urban Corridor than the past few days. Highs on Saturday will be in the low 90s.

The weather pattern continues into Sunday. We'll see dry conditions in the morning, with scattered storms developing in the PM hours. With a stronger easterly wind, the storms will likely stay along the Urban Corridor. Highs on Sunday will be in the low 90s.

Next week is looking unsettled. Tropical moisture from the Gulf will surge into the area, bringing a good chance of showers and storms to the area.

This moisture will linger for much of next week, with daily chances of showers and storms. The coverage of the rain will likely be greater than this past week. Highs next week are expected to hold in the upper 80s to low 90s.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
