EVENING STORMS EXPECTED

Thunderstorms are expected along the I-75 corridor this evening. Storms have been widespread across the interior sections of the state today, and as the activity migrates westward, thunderstorms moving across Southwest Florida can be expected to bring areas of heavy rain with ocassional lightning strikes as well.

Overnight temperatures are expected to cool to 72 at Fort Myers, with lows a touch milder along communities along the immediate coastline.

Once again on Sunday scattered thunderstorms are anticiapted with the movement of the seabreeze from the Gulf of Mexico. Timing of these storms looks most likely for the late afternoon and early evening along the I-75 corridor.

Temperatures at their warmest on Sunday are expected to reach to 91 degrees.

We'll be in a rather unsettled pattern for the upcoming week with the chance of showers and storms returning for the majority of days, especially through the afternoons. Temperatures look to warm into the upper 80s for highs starting Monday and lasting through Friday. Return to index of stories...

t's a rare sighting on sanibel!

Check out this video. A playful pair of coyotes caught on camera at the sanctuary

golf course recently.

Kyle Sweets, Sanctuary Golf Club

:35:56 they start playing and start wrestling around and then after

they finish theyre just kind of looking at each other and then mosey

back on to the golf course.

Kyle Sweets is the course superintendent. Sweets set

up this Wildlife camera after he and the crew spotted footprints.

Sweets

:36:08 we were surprised to see them.

He wasn't expecting to see this !

Sweets

:37:27 first of all you got to wonder how it got there!?

It's a question The city of sanibel and local wildlife organizations

are trying to answer.

The first coyote was spotted on the island three years ago.

The city has gotten several calls recently from homeowners who've seen

them in their back yards.

phoner-holly mildbrandt, biologist

:02:54 a number of the calls we've gotten suggests the coyotes are

definitely using some of our conservation land.

Holly Milbrandt, is a biologist with the city of sanibel. she says

coyotes have been spotted along the river.

the golf course where these two were recently spotted, is surrounded by

a national refuge.

Holly Milbrandt

:1:18 its not very common at all.

this is a new issue for sanibel.

hh standup

::47:44 because of the increase in sightings of coyotes on the island

the city is setting up it's own surveillance cameras this summer- to

find out where these coyotes are, what theyre doing and how many of

them- are there."

Holly Milbrandt

:04:05 i think we have two concerns-making sure humans on sanibel are

safe. as well as their small pets.

The city's other concern- the potential impact the coyotes could have

on endangered wildlife-

nat pop from video

but for now- it seems these playful coyotes are keeping to themselves.

:38:07 were not really concerned. if anything its really cool to see them. Return to index of stories...

nats Check out the bear in my neighbor's yard, tell me this isn't funny.

THIS FLORIDA BLACK BEAR DECIDED IT WAS TIME FOR A NAP. HE FOUND A COZY SPOT IN VINCENT JAMES' BACKYARD.

He got in the hammock like he was a tourist or something.

Then something spooked him and he ran right back there. Then half an hour later I come back and I saw there he is in the hammock again.

THE BEAR HAS BEEN SPOTTED MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE PEBBLE CREEK NEIGHBORHOOD IN DAYTONA BEACH SINCE WEDNESDAY. RESIDENTS SAY HE WAS LOOKING FOR FOOD, TEARING THROUGH A BIRD FEEDER AND THEN TRASH CANS.

He definitely trashed the place twice. He was hungry.

ONCE HE'D HAD HIS MEAL THOUGH, HE NEEDED A LITTLE R AND R.

That's all he was doing relaxing I've never seen anything like it.

RAFAEL TORRES -WHO ALSO LIVES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD--GRABBED MULTIPLE PHOTOS OF BEAR.

HE CALLS THIS HIS MONEY SHOT.

I got to about right here. Which is you know less than 80 feet from it.

AND ANOTHER NEIGHBOR CAPTURED IT ON HIS CELL PHONE.

AS EXCITING WAS IT WAS FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD, RESIDENTS SAY THEY DON'T WANT THE CREATURE TO COME BACK.

He didn't tear it up or anything.

JAMES HAS TAKEN HIS HAMMOCK DOWN. OTHERS SAY THEY'LL BE MORE CAREFUL WITH THEIR TRASH SO THIS BEAR DOESN'T MAKE THEIR BACKYARDS HIS NEW FAVORITE HANGOUT. Return to index of stories...
