SCATTERED STORMS THROUGH THE WEEK

Our work week starts with mainly cloudy skies. We will continue with those mostly cloudy skies through the day today. Temperatures are warm this morning, but won't warm up too much do to all of the cloud cover in place today. Afternoon highs will top out in the upper 80s today. Winds coming in from the east at 10-15 mph will help to spread showers and thunderstorms across the state and into Southwest Florida. Scattered showers and storms will dominate the afternoon with the majority of the area getting rain. It is another day where localized downpours can bring 2-3" of rain.

Through the week, unsettled weather will continue. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy with scattered storms each day, mainly in the afternoons. Highs will stay in the upper 80s.

Hurricane season started yesterday and we already have an area of interest in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. Conditions are not conducive for development, though. We'll keep you updated on tropical activity as we continue through the season. Return to index of stories...

Smarter than the average bear?

You decide.

But for Cape Coral resident Lena Lura these pictures her husband took

of this massive black bear taking a dip in her backward canal is proof

enough.

The sighting is one of several that has been reported in the Cape over

the weekend.

Each one citing a bear, in one case 2 neither aggressive in nature.

In this latest sighting- the reaction is a mixture of amusement and

concern- mainly because of how the bear got out of the water-

**NATS OVER VIDEO**

There's not a kid in there, is there?

YES.THERE IS. TWO YOUNG KIDS TRAPPED INSIDE. A BOY AND A GIRL. CELL PHONE VIDEO CAPTURING IT ALL.AS PARENTS PANICKED.

SOT VANNESSA ATENCIO/WITNESS

And then all of a sudden it picks up and there's a girl going down the slide. She flies about 8 feet in the air.

DESIREE HUNTER/WITNESS

As the wind picked up, it would just tumble. Like a bag in the wind.

WINDS WERE GUSTING NEAR 30 MPH. THE BOUNCY HOUSE TRAVELED NEARLY 300 FEET. THE TEN YEAR OLD BOY WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL. DOCTORS SAY HE'LL BE OK. THE YOUNG GIRL WAS TREATED AT THE SCENE.

SOT VANNESSA ATENCIO/WITNESS

It was pretty horrific and scary and you just kind of freeze in the moment and you don't know what to do.

IT IS SCARY TO WATCH.AND IT'S HAPPENED BEFORE.

**Nats of video as bounce house flies through air in 2011**

Oh my God! Oh my God!

IN 2011, 13 PEOPLE WERE HURT WHEN THESE BOUNCY HOUSES WERE TOSSED BY WIND ON LONG ISLAND.

**nats photo flashes**

AND JUST WEEKS AGO IN UPSTATE NY, TWO KIDS WERE SERIOUSLY HURT WHEN HIGH WINDS SENT THEIR BOUNCY HOUSE AIRBORNE. THEY FELL OUT PLUMMETING 20 FEET TO THE GROUND.

**nats jeff and expert, inflating bouncy house**

DAN STUCKEY IS THE GENERAL MANAGER OF "JUMP AND JAM", A SAFETY-CERTIFIED BOUNCE HOUSE COMPANY.

SOT DAN STUCKEY GENERAL MANAGER, "JUMP AND JAM"

DAN: This wall right here of the bounce house, it's just like a kite or a sail. If it's not properly secured, the bounce house the wind will take it and just tip it right over. I'll show you right now. This one is not properly secured, it's very easy for air to get underneath and just lift it up in the air.

JEFF: And if kids are inside, that's dangerous.

DAN: Yes, kids will fall out, very serious.

*NATS OF SLOANE AND BLAKE**

HE SAYS, IF PEOPLE FOLLOW DIRECTIONS, THEY'RE SAFE.AND WATCH THIS.HE'S ABOUT TO SHOW YOU HOW TO DO IT.

SOT DAN STUCKEY GENERAL MANAGER, "JUMP AND JAM"

JEFF: For those of us who aren't experts, how do you stake this in so it's safe?

DAN: Well first you want to get the right stake. You need at least an 18 inch stake/Keep it at a 45 degree angle. You want to drive it into the ground, you want to go as much as you can.

JEFF: So you don't even see it anymore?

DAN: All the way around so you don't see it anymore.

JEFF: This isn't going anywhere? DAN: It's not going anywhere.

NOW THE INVESTIGATION BEGINS, WHAT WENT WRONG IN COLORADO OVER THE WEEKEND? AIRBOUND, THE COMPANY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BOUNCY HOUSE TELLS NBC NEWS IT WAS A *FREAK ACCIDENT*, THE *WIND CAME OUT OF NOWHERE* AND THE BOUNCY HOUSE WAS *PROPERLY STAKED* WITH A *STAFFER TENDING TO IT*.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

In a total knee replacement, surgeons shave the ends the knee bones and cap those ends with implants. It resurfaces the joint and takes the place of the missing cartilage. The partial knee operates the same way- but on a smaller scale. By removing the single section and leaving the rest of the knee intact.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

A FORMER PROFESSOR IN SOUTH CAROLINA IS FIRED THANKS TO A BEER CAN.

RAYMOND OWENS HAS THIS STORY. Return to index of stories...

BEER CANS-PKG

It's been an emotional roller-coaster."

PAUL ROOF IS DESCRIBING HIS LIFE JUST SINCE HE WAS FIRED ON FRIDAY. HE WAS AN ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF SOCIOLOGY AT CHARLESTON SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY. THE SCHOOL IS A CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY, AND AFFILIATED WITH THE SOUTH CAROLINA BAPTIST CONVENTION.

HE SAYS HE WAS FIRED AFTER HIS IMAGE WAS USED ON A BEER CAN MANUFACTURED BY HOLY CITY BREWING.

S/ Paul Roof, Fired Professor:31-:38

"My image and likeness, which I do not own, that I've never received compensation for and it was a surprise for me that it was put on a beer can by Holy City Brewing."

ROOF SAYS HIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN BY A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER AT A BEARD AND MUSTACHE COMPETITION. HE DIDN'T FIND OUT THAT HE WOULD BE ON THE BEER CAN UNTIL THE CANS WERE ALREADY IN PRODUCTION.

HE SAYS IT'S NOT RIGHT THAT HE WAS FIRED.

"I was given an email message early this week and told to talk to my dean. I met with my dean Wednesday, and my answers were sufficient for him. but on Friday, I was called into the VP's office, and that's where I was terminated."

Reporter:

"What did you say to the leadership when they came to you, they probably came to you and said that we're a university, christian college, Baptist affiliated and we don't want our associate professor's image on the side of a beer can."

"Well, I'm a Presbyterian, I go to James Island Presbyterian Church here on the island. I am christian, I integrate faith and learning, leading and serving. While I am a christian, I am not a saint and I am not a Baptist. I was told that it was not representative of a Christian environment. And for me a Christian environment entails two things: looking out for other people and forgiveness of others who've transgressed against you." Return to index of stories...
