CAPE CORAL DISPATCHERS HEARD A LOT OF THESE 911 CALLS OVER THE WEEKEND.

"I'm saying 160 to 180 pound bear. It's a pretty big bear."

THAT BEAR CHOSE THIS DOCK TO HANG OUT-

FREEDOM. Return to index of stories...

CAPE CORAL BEAR HUNT-PKG

Even if you've lived in SWFL your whole life-

Chances are- you've never seen anything quite like this-

Certainly a first for Cape Coral resident Lena Lura.

An estimated 160 pound black bear climbing down a dock and using this

canal as a swimming pool.

"About the most exciting morning I've had in a long time haha"

Early Monday morning Lura called for her husband when she realized the dog hanging around across the canal -- was actually a bear.

"After about 2 glances at it, I said that's not a dog"

The images- unique

The reaction form other neighbors who witnessed firsthand- priceless

"The damn thing just jumped right up the white part of the dock"

This bear sighting comes on the heels of several others in Cape Coral

over the weekend-

This one off Kismet Parkway-

FWC officials have reason to believe its likely the same bear traipsing around town-

"We're hoping that he or it will leave the area tonight, when things quiet down"

But with this encounter- so close to homes- the Calvary was called out:

"Lee county sheriffs office aviation units as well as the

agricultural unity assisted with this"

FWC officials spotted a tag on the bear's ear -- meaning it's been trapped before.

Tonight- there's no active search, but police are

monitoring for new bear sighting reports.

"Climbed up and went right between the houses, just lickity split"

Tonight residents hope if this bear is smarter than the average -

and that it stays away from this neck of the woods

"I'll stay in most of the day hahaha" Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

CLOUDY WITH SHOWERS THIS EVENING

Mostly cloudy conditions along with numerous showers have dominated the weather across the region on Monday compliments of a prevalent east wind across the Florida peninsula.

Clouds helped to keep temperatures in check today. Highs were only able to top out in the 80s, cooler than what's considered seasonal for early June.

As we progress through the evening hours, mostly cloudy conditions with occasional showers are possible. With abundant cloud cover, overnight low temperatures will likely remain in the low to mid 70s.

On Tuesday, it appears we'll see a drier day across Southwest Florida, but we will need to leave the chance for an isolated shower or a thunderstorm in the forecast. Otherwise clouds should range from partly to mostly cloudy through the mid-day hours. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid to upper 80s.

The remainder of the work week should feature high temperatures peaking in the upper 80s with sky conditions ranging from partly to mostly cloudy. Rain chances vary from day to day, but at least the risk of an isolated shower or storm will need to remain in the forecast on Thursday and Friday.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...
