ALL NEW TONIGHT AT SIX.

A TRUSTED COLLIER COUNTY TEACHER AND COACH RESIGNED JUST WEEKS AGO AFTER HE ADMITTED TO KISSING A STUDENT.

ROBERT BAKER TAUGHT AT LELY HIGH SCHOOL.

ONLY NBC2S BRYAN ANDERSON UNCOVERED THE SCANDAL.

BRYAN, BAKER WAS WORKING IN THE CLASSROOM CORRECT? Return to index of stories...

LELY TEACHER INVESTIGATION-REM-26

YES. HE WAS A MATH TEACHER HERE AT LELY.

BAKER WAS ALSO A COACH.

NOW HE'S NEITHER.

AND WE SPENT ALL DAY DIGGING FOR ANSWERS. Return to index of stories...

LELY TEACHER INVESTIGATION-BNR-PKG

PARENTS TRUSTED HIM WITH THEIR CHILDREN.

HIS STUDENTS DEPENDED ON HIM TO LEARN MATH AND VOLLEYBALL.

BUT IT'S WHAT WAS REPORTED OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM AND OFF THE COURT THAT HAS ALL THE ATTENTION ON ROBERT BAKER.

---SOT---

Evansa Deka, Lely High School Junior

04:26:20-:26

It's pretty disturbing really to have that at an area where we're supposed to learn and everything.

THE END OF THE FORMER LELY HIGH SCHOOL ALGEBRA TEACHER AND COACH'S CAREER IN THE COLLIER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT STARTED WITH A RAMPANT RUMOR AROUND CAMPUS.

IT INVOLVED BAKER AND ONE OF HIS FEMALE VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS.

SHE'S ONLY 16.

---SOT---

DEKA

04:26:41

You heard it everywhere actually.

COLLIER COUNTY SHERIFF'S INVESTIGATORS SAY IN LATE APRIL A STUDENT REPORTED THE RUMOR TO VOLLEYBALL COACH LINDSEY HARDLEY.

THE INCIDENT REPORT SAYS WHEN HARDLEY QUESTIONED BAKER HE TOLD HER QUOTE "HE MAY HAVE CROSSED THE LINE AND NEEDED TO BACK OFF."

AFTER HARDLEY CONFRONTED HIM AGAIN, THE REPORT SAYS HE ADMITTED TO KISSING THE TEEN WITHIN THE PAST MONTH.

THE STUDENT TOLD DEPUTIES IT HAPPENED AT THE BEACH - THAT THEY REALIZED IT WASN'T APPROPRIATE

AND THAT IT HASN'T HAPPENED AGAIN.

---SOT---

Ryan McLaughlin, Lely High School Sophomore

04:28:46

I mean if you're around kids all day.parents trust them to go to practice everyday and nothing is going to happen.

NBC2 MET BAKER A YEAR AGO THIS WEEK.

HE INVITED US INTO HIS ALGEBRA CLASS FOR OUR REPORT ON NEW TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM.

---SOT---

BAKER, FILE

00:16-:20

If there's ways to build it in, let's build it in. And there are ways, effective ways.

BUTT TO

01:03-:08

I only get 49 minutes and if the first 10 and the last 10, they're not engaged then I'm out of time.

NOW HE'S OUT OF A JOB.

THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TELLS US BAKER QUIT IN MAY.WEEKS BEFORE THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE INCIDENT REPORT SAYS HE QUOTE "LAWYERED UP" AND REFUSED A SWORN STATEMENT.

SCHOOL DISTRICT OFFICIALS SAY BAKER'S RESIGNATION WAS VOLUNTARY.

---SOT---

Ryan McLaughlin, Lely High School Sophomore

04:29:13-:17

He probably had no choice really because I mean he got caught. Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

We're in store for a little break from the rain season pattern as slight drier air filters into Southwest Florida, keeping our rain chances at a minimum for a couple more days.

Expect a mainly dry conclusion to our Wednesday with only a couple stray showers and a partly cloudy sky. Temperatures will cool down into the 70s through the evening and overnight period.

We'll continue to see somewhat of a break in our rainy season pattern into our Thursday, which should end up being a relatively dry and sunny day with highs warming up to around 90 degrees.

As we head through the end of the work week and into the upcoming weekend, moisture increases enough to bring back our chance for scattered showers and storms during the afternoon and evening. Daytime highs will continue to reach the low 90s while overnight lows cool into the low to mid 70s.

Our weather should be pretty characteristic of June and rainy season through the middle of next week, but the fly in the ointment may be some tropical moisture flowing in from the south by next Wednesday-Friday. We'll continue to track this potential over the next several days and fine tune the forecast as needed.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...
