FIRST WEATHER-WX WALL

Saturday ended up being quite sunny and mostly dry along the coast yet pretty stormy for our inland communities through the afternoon and evening.

Like yesterday, today's storms will be more widespread east of the interstate and over the interior, but there's also the chance a few of these cells will make a push to the west by the late afternoon and evening.

Keep in mind that a few of today's storms may be strong, producing blinding rain, intense lightning and gusty winds.

Aside from the threat for afternoon storms, we're in store for a another sunny, hot and humid day across Southwest Florida with highs on track to reach the low 90s except along the coast where an onshore wind will keeps afternoon temps in the mid to upper 80s.

Rain chances continue to get a little boost as we start the work week. The afternoon sea breeze combined with ample heat and instability will spark a round of storms each afternoon this week, and even our coastal communities will see the potential to get hit by a storm.

Daytime highs will stay close to average for this time of year with afternoon temperatures peaking in the low 90s and overnight lows settling into the mid 70s.

In the tropics, all is quiet now that the tropical wave in the Southwestern Gulf of Mexico has moved onshore and dissipated. No tropical development is expected through the next five days.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

FL STORE SHOOTING ON CAM-trxVOTOPSWIPE

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS SURVEILLANCE VIDEO OF A SHOOTING INSIDE A MIAMI AREA MINI-MART.

POLICE SAY THE STORE OWNER OPENED FIRE AFTER A FIGHT BROKE OUT.

THEY SAY THE OWNER SHOT THE CUSTOMER TWICE --

ONCE IN THE THIGH AND ONCE IN THE KNEE.

REGULAR CUSTOMERS SAY -- THE VICTIM CAUSED TROUBLE MANY TIMES AT THIS STORE AND MADE THREATS IN THE PAST.

Police said Jorge Mesa, the 30-year-old store owner, shot 34-year-old customer Antoine Perry inside the La Gloria mini-mart near the Tri-Rail station at 1120 East 25 Street on May 13 following an altercation.

At some point, Mesa told Perry to leave the store, Hialeah Police said. In-store surveillance video shows the two continuing to argue. Mesa points the gun at Perry, but Perry doesn't appear to back away. Eventually Perry starts to leave, but pushes down a food stand on his way out. Mesa then allegedly shoots the customer twice, once in the thigh and once in the knee, according to police.

Florida's "stand your ground" law doesn't apply to property. Officials have said it did not appear that Mesa's life was in danger and that it's possible the customer had psychological problems.

While Mesa did not want to speak on camera, he said the surveillance video doesn't capture the full story.

Sergio Olmer, an employee who witnessed the incident, said Perry had been a nuisance at the store multiple times.

ID Theft Hits Miami-Dade Employees

A customer told NBC 6 he'd personally heard Perry make threatening statements in the past.

"I was here that first time, he said he was going to come back and get him," said the customer, who did not want to be identified.

Mesa's wife, who was behind the register at the time of the shooting, said in Spanish that her husband isn't a violent man and that she and her family felt threatened.

"He wasn't a welcome person," Carifel Suarez Mesa said in Spanish. "This wasn't a one-day thing, but the police didn't do anything about it." Return to index of stories...

6:42 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL
