FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

!!!!NEED WX ANCHOR CG!!!!!

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

SCATTERED DOWNPOURS START AROUND MIDDAY

Scattered storms are in the forecast today. We start the morning mainly clear and dry, but it won't take long to get the rain going today. Winds from the south will quickly turn southwesterly. That turn of the winds will happen early in the day, allowing a few downpours to pop up starting in the later morning to midday time frame. A few of these will be near our urban corridor, but once they pop up, they are headed toward the inland areas. Most of the activity will remain inland, but there will be a few downpours that come back toward the coastline in the evening as the sea breeze collapses. With plenty of moisture in place, there is the possibility of isolated rain totals reaching 2-3"; similar to what happened yesterday in eastern Lee County. Afternoon highs will again reach into the lower 90s.

We'll continue with scattered afternoon storms in the forecast through the week, most of which will be in the inland areas. Afternoon highs will stay in the near 90 degrees and lows will be in the low to mid 70s.

There are no areas of concern in the tropics at this time. Return to index of stories...

VEGAS SHOOTING UPDATE-PKG

THE COUPLE WHO, POLICE SAY, KILLED TWO POLICE OFFICERS AND A CIVILIAN IN LAS VEGAS WERE ONCE SUPPORTERS OF NEVADA RANCHER CLIVEN BUNDY, WHOSE ARMED MILITIA FACED OFF WITH GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS OVER PUBLIC LAND RIGHTS.

VIDEO OF JERAD MILLER HAS SINCE SURFACED FROM AN N-B-C INTERVIEW ON BUNDY'S RANCH, EARLIER THIS YEAR. IN HINDSIGHT, HIS RHETORIC IS ESPECIALLY CHILLING.

"I feel sorry for any federal agents that want to come in here and try to push us around or anything like that. I really don't want violence toward them, but if they're gonna come bring violence to us. Well, if that's the language they want to speak, we'll learn it."

EVEN THOUGH MANY OF BUNDY'S SUPPORTERS EXPRESSED VIEWS THAT COULD BE CONSIDERED ANTI-GOVERNMENT, HIS SON SAYS JERAD AND AMANDA MILLER WERE KICKED OF THE RANCH BECAUSE OF "THEIR RADICAL BELIEFS."

MILLER EXPRESSED MANY OF THOSE ON HIS FACEBOOK PAGE. A LONG RANT, LAST WEEK, BEGAN WITH "WE CAN HOPE FOR PEACE. WE MUST, HOWEVER, PREPARE FOR WAR."

THEN, A DAY BEFORE THE SHOOTINGS, THIS POST: "THE DAWN OF A NEW DAY. MAY ALL OF OUR COMING SACRIFICES BE WORTH IT."

"By these people calling in is what really saved them, is what made our response get here very quickly."

THE CALLERS WITNESSED THE CRIME, THOUGH THEY WERE HALFWAY AROUND THE WORLD.

"I wasn't actually there. I have a friend that streams video games online through like a webcam."

AND THIS IS WHAT THEY SAW VIA A WEBCAM AT 5:00 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING LOCAL TIME.

THE VICTIM, AN ONLINE GAMER IS SITTING IN FRONT OF HER COMPUTER, WHEN SOMEONE STORMS IN.

"What the ?"

THE GIRL GETS UP, AND MOMENTS LATER A MAN WITH A GUN WALKS IN THE ROOM.

"You know the interesting part that again on this is that, there were from my understanding, there were several callers from around the world, that were trying to find out who, where this victim was and they were watching this whole thing occur, while she was being assaulted and the home invasion was occurring."

POLICE SAY THE FIRST CALLER WAS IN EUROPE AND CALLED SOMEONE THEY KNEW IN THE U-S WHO IN TURN CALLED TEMPE POLICE.

"There was a webcam streaming this on the internet."

WITHIN MINUTES, POLICE WERE ON THEIR WAY.

"They were going to be here a longer period of time rather than just being there, getting what they want and leaving."

COLLEGE ATHLETES WANT TO BE PAID-PLASMA VO

FORMER UCLA BASKETBALL STAR ED O'BANNON IS CHALLENGING THE N-C-DOUBLE-A OVER THE RIGHT FOR COLLEGE ATHLETES TO EARN MONEY.

THE LAWSUIT COULD HAVE MAJOR IMPLICATIONS FOR COLLEGE BASKETBALL AND FOOTBALL PLAYERS.

TIFFANY WILSON HAS THE STORY. Return to index of stories...

COLLEGE ATHLETES WANT TO BE PAID-PKG

ELITE COLLEGE ATHLETES HAVE A LOVE HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH ZERO. IT'S THE AMOUNT MANY PAY FOR AN EDUCATION AT TOP UNIVERSITIES. IT'S ALSO THE AMOUNT THEY MAKE WHEN THEIR NAME IMAGE AND LIKENESS APPEAR IN VIDEO GAMES, SCHOOL MERCHANDISE OR ON T-V.

I was recruited to play basketball.

FORMER UCLA BASKETBALL PLAYER ED O'BANNON NOTICED HIS LIKENESS IN A BRUINS UNIFORM IN A VIDEO GAME SEVERAL YEARS AGO. THE COMPANY MADE MONEY OFF THE PRODUCT HE NEVER SAW A CENT.

Athletes in particular basketball players in college as well as football players in college when they are bringing in the amount of money they are bringing in, they should probably get a piece of that money.

AFTER NEARLY FIVE YEARS OF CONTENTIOUS BACK AND FORTH EXCHANGES THE NCAA AND O'BANNON'S TEAM OF LAWYERS TIPPED OFF THE TRIAL IN DISTRICT COURT TODAY. ATTORNEY MICHAEL HAUSFELD SAYS THE STRATEGY IS SHOW COLLEGE ATHLETES DESERVE TO BE PAID.

This fiction that there is something called a student athlete is a camouflage or as the NCAA calls it a hypocrisy which merely allows the NCAA as an enterprise with its member institutions to exploit the athletes and extract value that otherwise would belong to them.

HAUSFELD ARGUES WITHOUT THE NCAA RULES, PLAYERS WOULD BE ABLE TO GET MONEY FROM ENDORSEMENTS AND MARKETING. THE NCAA WILL PRESENT ITS COUNTER ARGUMENTS IN THE COMING DAYS. TODAY THEY LEFT THE COURT WITHOUT COMMENT Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX WALL

!!!NEED WX ANCHOR CG!!!

FIVE EXERCISES IN FIVE MINUTES-PKG

STEPHANIE KAISER HAS A MASTER'S DEGREE IN KINESIOLOGY. IT'S COMPLICATED STUFF, BUT SHE SAYS KEEPING WORKOUTS SIMPLE IS A LESSON LEARNED LONG AGO.

SHE SAYS PICK FIVE DIVERSE EXERCISES.

"A couple core exercises, upper body, lower body, all mixed in there to get a good total body workout."

AND THEN RUN THROUGH THEM THREE TIMES EACH.

"We are going to do each for 30 seconds. Tora here is going to do the first one here."

"We're going to do a plank."

IT WORKS YOUR CORE AND YOU CAN START ON YOUR KNEES.

"Once you feel comfortable on that, you can push your knees off the ground and hold steady like this."

NEXT IS A THE SQUAT.

"The important thing, always, is to have proper form, so in the 30 seconds do as many as you can with good form."

OVER TIME, YOU CAN ADD A CARDIO COMPONENT.

"If you are feeling really great about your squats and you want to add that high-impact option, then jumping is a great way to get your heart rate up."

AFTER YOU WORKED YOUR LOWER HALF, PUSH-UPS WILL CHALLENGE YOUR CHEST, SHOULDERS, ARMS AND ABS.

"You can get a great workout by doing push-ups on your knees, but if you start to find that you can do them very easily, then start by trying one on your toes and then move up from there."

"You'll be surprised how quickly you start to see a difference in your strength."

AND THEN WORK YOUR BACKSIDE WITH A BRIDGE.

"Feet together, then she's gonna press her hips straight up into the air and then come straight back down. If that becomes too easy, she'll raise one leg off the ground and then she will move and go to one leg."

FINALLY, A MOVE CALLED "BIRD DOG," EXTENDING OPPOSITE LEGS AND ARMS AND BRINGING THEM TOGETHER.

"This one really works on trunk stability, so what you want to focus on here is not letting your hips or shoulders come out of alignment."

"It's good to know that option you can have, maybe when you're just at um soccer practice, waiting for your kid, you could do that while you are waiting there." Return to index of stories...

BEING A PARTNER IN HEALTHCARE MEANS HELPING YOUR DOCTOR HELP YOU. IT BEGINS WITH SPEAKING UP-SOUNDS SIMPLE? BUT MANY PEOPLE SKIP IMPORTANT DETAILS.

ARLENE WRIGHT/NURSE PRACTITIONER

RUNS:

6:06 A person doesn't think that they're very significant, but it can lead to something else.

SO HERE'S SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT- THINGS YOU SHOULD BE TELLING YOUR DOCTOR.

ARLENE WRIGHT/NURSE PRACTITIONER

RUNS:

1:00 Any unintentional or unplanned weight loss or weight gain because that could be a sign of something else going on. Skin lesions, anything new or old, non-healing wounds, pain, chest pain, or any prolonged joint swelling or pain or inflammation, vision changes or changes in a headache pattern.

CERTAINLY TOPICS YOU'D WANT TO SHARE. OTHERS MAY SLIP YOUR MIND.

ARLENE WRIGHT/NURSE PRACTITIONER

RUNS:

:28 Bring a list of your medications. Current medications which is not just prescription, but also over-the-counter. Often times people forget that over-the-counter medications certainly can interact and have a chemical, cause a chemical reaction. 2:12 Another problem that you might not even think is important. Any changes in vision.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Many people fall victim to what's called 'white coat anxiety'. They have a lot of things to tell their healthcare provider- but when they see that white coat, they forget everything. Best advice is to keep a running list and jot down any changes or symptoms as they happen.

ARLENE WRIGHT/NURSE PRACTITIONER

RUNS:

7:48 So that you can participate in the routine screenings and anything else that would help detect something early on.

ONE MORE THING: BEFORE YOU TAKE OFF ON A TRIP-PENCIL IN A VISIT WITH YOUR PROVIDER.

ARLENE WRIGHT/NURSE PRACTITIONER

RUNS:

1:36 If you're planning to travel, outside of the country where certain diseases might be prevalent, you might need immunizations.

SO AS YOU HOP UP ON THE EXAM TABLE- BE PREPARED TO SHARE IT ALL. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...
