"we the people! Butted to "we're not moving!"

PROTESTORS DISRUPTED A COLLIER COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING TODAY.

AND WHEN THEY REFUSED TO QUIET DOWN, DEPUTIES WERE CALLED IN.

COMMISSIONERS WERE SUPPOSED TO DECIDE WHETHER TO TAKE-ON THE STATE OVER A CONTROVERSIAL OIL DRILLING PROJECT. BUT THEY PULLED THE ITEM FROM THE AGENDA.

OIL DRILLING PROTESTORS AND COLLIER COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ARE FED UP WITH THE WAITING GAME.

Karen Dwyer, Stone Crab Alliance

05:22:52-:57

Water tests should have been immediately gathered at the illegal frack site.

IMMEDIATE WATER TESTING WAS A DIRECT ORDER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION.

BUT MONTHS LATER WE STILL KNOW IF THE GROUNDWATER AROUND THIS NORTHERN COLLIER COUNTY DRILL SITE HAS BEEN CONTAMINATED.

05:25:44-:52

They are not doing their job in Tallahassee. They are never going to do their job in Tallahassee when it comes to Collier County.

TODAY ACTIVISTS PACKED THE COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING IN SUPPORT OF COMMISSIONERS.

THAT'S ACTUALLY WHAT GOT THEM BRIEFLY KICKED OUT.

john Manning/Commissioner / 05:47:35 It's a competitive world out there and this is one of the reasons were in the game. 05:47:40

A MYSTERY GAME OF LURING A BUSINESS THAT PROMISES 120 JOBS AND AVERAGE SALARIES OF $80-THOUSAND A YEAR.

frank Mann/commissioner / 05:52:05 I'm always a little nervous when we do these secret projects and they won't tell us the name of the company and that sort of thing. 05:52;11

NERVOUS BECAUSE RECENTLY THE COUNTY PAID MILLIONS TO 14 COMPANIES TO LOCATE HERE.

TWO OF THEM FAILURES.

V-R LABS GOT $4.5 MILLION WHEN IT ONLY CREATED 10 OF THE 200 JOBS IT PROMISED.

LAST WEEK SOURCE INTERLINK SAID IT WAS CLOSING WHILE IT STILL OWES THE COUNTY $250-THOUSAND DOLLARS.

frank Mann / 05:52:48 Source Interlink is another one that is a black eye. So we have to change the entire model. 05:52:55

05:54;28 Commissioner Frank Mann says he feels a little more secure handing out money this time because Project Orange differs from those in the past. 05:54;35

THIS TIME THE COMPANY MUST CREATE THE JOBS BEFORE THE COUNTY HANDS OVER THE $420-THOUSAND IT'S PROMISING.

frank Mann / 05:42:23 We don't spend a penny until the jobs are secure and in place. So it's a reimbursement. That's different from what we did with V-R Labs and put the money out front and the people did us in. 05;52;36

BUT SOME WORRY THAT ATTACHING STRINGS TO THE MONEY COULD MAKE THE COUNTY LESS COMPETITIVE IF OTHER CITIES DON'T DO THE SAME THING.

brian Hamann/commissioner / 09:40:35 I don't mind if that makes us less competitive because it's important to me that if we're going to invest tax payer dollars to bring in jobs that those companies perform and do what they say they're going to do. -9:40:46 Return to index of stories...

Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

The radar is lighting up again this Tuesday afternoon, but the threat for severe weather will remain low for the balance of the day. The bigger, stronger storms will mostly affect our inland areas, especially across Glades and Hendry County.

A few isolated pockets of rain my try to work closer to the coast this evening, but the bulk of the rain will stay away from the beaches.

Like yesterday, we'll likely see an earlier end to the rain since the rain started forming earlier in the day. We'll be left with a mostly to partly cloudy sky through the overnight period with temperatures settling into the mid 70s.

The weather pattern changes a little over the next couple days as our wind flow comes in from the Gulf of Mexico. This onshore flow will open the door for some isolated morning rain along the coast, but the highest rain chances will quickly shift inland through the afternoon and evening time frame.

Temperature may be a touch lower over the next couple afternoons thanks to the winds off the Gulf, but it'll still be plenty warm with highs in the mid to upper 80s, and some of our inland sites could still max out in the low 90s.

Thursday will be the day we see the greatest coverage of scattered showers and storms as a disturbance swings in from the Gulf, providing the atmosphere with a little more energy to work with.

Expect Thursday to be a little cloudier, too, which will help keep our afternoon temperatures below 90 degrees.

From Friday into the upcoming weekend, we'll get back to seeing more sun and heat along with our daily dose of mainly afternoon showers and storms. Temperatures will top out in the low to mid 90s and cool off into the mid 70s overnight.

In the tropics, there are no areas of concern across the Atlantic Basin, and no tropical development is expected through the next five days.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

18:52:24 we just try to find any mistake and if we find them we correct it so it doesn't happen on the fire grounds. 18:52:28

PARENTS SAY THE SAME.

Patti Midkiff - Parent // 15:01:02 you have so many kids. You've got to get them out fast if there's a problem. 15:01:05

BUT THE NBC2 INVESTIGATORS UNCOVERED MORE THAN 40% OF SCHOOLS EITHER MISSED OR DIDN'T REPORT REQUIRED FIRE DRILLS IN THE LAST TWO YEARS.

LEE COUNTY CALLS FOR ONE DRILL IN THE FIRST 30 DAYS AND ONE EACH MONTH SCHOOL IS IN.

DIGGING THROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT DOCUMENTS WE FOUND

36 SCHOOLS EITHER MISSED OR DID NOT REPORT DRILLS SINCE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IN 2012.

Dr. Nancy Graham - Superintendent // 16:48:27 clearly there's been either some confusion or lack of education on the part of our leadership that some of those drills didn't happen. 16:48:33

FEELING THE HEAT ARE 21 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS; 7 MIDDLE AND 8 HIGH SCHOOLS.

THE BIGGEST OFFENDER OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS. JAMES STEPHENS ACADEMY.

IT MISSED HALF OF IT'S REQUIRED DRILLS.

DUNBAR HIGH AND SANIBEL SCHOOL EACH MISSED 9.

Catherine Zipperer - Parent // 14:55:31 if there was a fire within the school and the kids didn't know how to get out, it's kind of concerning. 14:55:39

OUR FINDINGS HAVE DR. GRAHAM CALLING FOR A CHANGE IN POLICY.

ALREADY IN THE WORKS - CREATING A NEW DEPARTMENT TO ENSURE **ALL** DRILLS GET DONE AND ARE PROPERLY DOCUMENTED.

Dr. Nancy Graham - Superintendent // 16:49:37 this is about process and clearly the process was flawed and we've got to fix it. 16:49:42

16:53:46 were these schools being safe? Yeah, our schools are safe and as ugly as this might look, I'm going to tell you I don't think our children were ever in serious danger. 16:53:58
