FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

Most of today's storms have moved well inland toward Southeast Florida, leaving Southwest Florida under a partly cloudy sky and temperatures in the upper 80s.

As we head into the evening and overnight period, we'll leave the door open for a couple of isolated downpours. Otherwise, expect a partly to mostly cloudy sky with lows settling into the mid 70s.

The winds continue coming in from the Gulf through the overnight into our Thursday morning, a setup that typically brings in some isolated downpours from the Gulf during the morning and midday time frame.

To make our forecast even more interesting, an upper-air disturbance dropping in from the Gulf will enhance the potential for showers and thunderstorms by the late morning and early afternoon, particularly closer to the coast and urban corridor.

A few of these storms could be strong, producing torrential rain, intense lightning and gusty winds.

As we progress through the afternoon, the storms will migrate deeper inland toward the Florida east coast. However, it's still possible to get some isolated thunderstorms closer to coast during the late afternoon and evening.

Friday we begin to transition back into more of a "typical" rainy season pattern, but with an onshore flow still in place, a few showers could still develop by the mid to late morning. The afternoon storms will tend to build deeper inland.

The weekend will be quite characteristic for mid June with a mix of sun and clouds along with our daily dose of scattered storms during the mid to late afternoon. Highs will reach the low to mid 90s, and overnight temperatures will cool into the mid 70s.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

THIS POSED A CHALLENGE FOR DISTRICTS LIKE CHARLOTTE COUNTY THAT CAN'T AFFORD TO IMMEDIATELY MEET THAT GOAL.

"Often in order to meet a mandate we don't have the funds to continue to move forward with some of the projects we really wanted that were really academically excellent and great for kids."

THE RECENT GRANTS CHANGE THAT, BRESS SAYS NOW MIDDLE SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT WILL BE ABLE TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION OFFERED AND KEEP UP WITH THE STATE MANDATE.

 STUDENTS ARE HAPPY TOO.

"Cus the problem is a lot of kids when they're younger they always want to be the sports stars and stuff but with such fun classrooms, with tech smart classrooms and stuff, they get more interested in being a scientist or an engineer or something."
