DOLPHIN AT MOTE MARINE-BNR-PKG

"We've never had a stranding of this species of dolphin."

After more than four hours on the road the precious cargo arrived around 4 Thursday afternoon at sarasota's mote marine research lab.

Inside 2 spotted dolphins that were stranded on the shores of ft Myers beach.

Their bodies, now stored at the research facility -- necropsies will be performed tomorrow to hopefully find out what the dolphins were doing on the beach.

"That's really what our job is to find out what went wrong was it a virus was it bacteria was it just nature, sometimes this just happens for no apparent reason."

But when it does happen lovewell says the thing to do is to call for help and keep the animal on shore.

"They're there for the reason a lot of people's first instinct is to push them off but that's not the right thing to do, if they're diseased you don't want to push that back out there."

Lovewell says these spotted delphins are normally seen 100 miles of the coast. They aren't common in swfl.

These two will serve an important purpose at mote marine research center.

Both animals will go into the osteological collection for research and education purposes.

IT WAS A TYPICAL MORNING FOR EVAN DANIELL. A CUP OF COFFEE, AND A BEAUTIFUL VIEW FROM HIS BACK PORCH. BUT THEN.

whoa!

A BLACK BEAR STANDING IN HIS BACK YARD, 10 FEET AWAY.

"i've had sharks in the swimming pool, otters in the ponds, gators under the pier, but never had a bear in the yard."

EVAN SAID THE BEAR LOOKED AT HIM AND HIS WIFE, THEN WENT UP THIS OAK TREE AND STAYED THERE FOR HOURS.

"then he walked back to our swimming pool, cooled off took a dip, shook himself off, looked around, slowly wondered off, kumped in the river, got out off the river."

HE THEN HEADED DOWN THE ROAD. TOWARDS SARAH BREWSTERS HOUSE.

SHE'S SAYS THE BEAR WAS CLOSE BECAUSE DOGS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD STARTED BARKING AND HER TRASH WAS TIPPED OVER.

"you would have never thought in the city of Fort Myers that we could have a black bear, but he's here."

FWC OFFICERS WERE CALLED AND SAY THE BEAR DIDN'T APPEAR TO BE AGGRESSIVE.

THEY ASKED NEIGHBORS NOT TO FEED IT AND JUST TO LET IT BE.

OFFICIERS TOLD NEIGBHORS THE BEAR WAS LIKELY A YOUNG MALE WHO LOST HIS FAMILY AND WAS LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO LIVE.

THE BLACK BEAR HASN'T BEEN SPOTTED SINCE ABOUT 1 THIS AFTERNOON, BUT NEIGHBORS SAY THEY WILL BRING IN THEIR TRASH AND PET FOOD TONIGHT, AND WONDER IF THEIR NEW NEIGHBOR WILL BE BACK TOMORROW.
