ANIMAL SERVICES CONFLICT-PKG

James Mudry 21:20 - 21:23

"I was very surprised, and upset"

When James Mudry brought his dog Kelly into Lee County Animal Services on Saturday, the last thing he expected was to get her taken away.

James Mudry 22:17 - 22:20

"The gentleman had MS and he couldnlt take care of him."

Mudry says he was just trying to do a good deed by adopting the dog after her previous owner could no longer take care of her.

But when he went to Animal Services to change her ownership information.

James Mudry 22:27 - 22:35

"All they said is they had to keep the dog for 5 days because they didnt know if it was stolen or not."

Donna Ward -- Direcor, Lee County Animal Services 13:03 - 13:05

"This is an extremely unique situation."

Because pets are considered property in the state, lee county Animal Services director donna ward tells NBC2 the agency has to make sure the owner is legit.

Donna Ward 13:32 - 13:40

"We need to make sure that we reach out to the original owner that we have on file, to ensure that the animal was given away."

But because the original owner could not be reached, the dog was taken away, even though Mudry had all the previous registration paperwork.

Ward says the dog should not have been taken away, and agreed to give her back after NBC2 got involved.

Donna Ward 14:41 - 14:49

"What we recommend is that you have your pets microchipped, however its even more important that you keep the information accurate and up to date."

NATS "Kellie, what you doing!"

A happy ending, for what could have been a heartbreaking situation.

A CAMP DIRECTOR -- ACCUSED OF TRYING TO GET A TEENAGE GIRL TO SEND HIM NUDE PHOTOS.

NBC'S GILMA AVALOS REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

FL CAMP CONSELOR ARREST-trxPKG

Hialeah Police arrested a 26-year-old city worker/camp director on multiple charges after he allegedly tried to talk a 13-year-old girl into sending him nude photos.

Police arrested Raphael Rivero who serves as a camp director at the Hialeah Education Summer program. Hialeah Police said Rivero told his victim to use SnapChat as a way to communicate with each other.

On SnapChat, Hialeah Police said Rivero asked the teen about her age and if she was a virgin. According to the police report, Rivero offered the girl form $60-$200 to send the photo as an exchange of him sending a nude photo.

Thursday, the victim's mother let police take over her online identity in SnapChat to allegedly communicate with Rivero. Police said he offered to pay $40 in exchange for a nude photo. Police, posing as the defendant, agreed to the exchange and set up a meeting at a Hilaleah movie theater.

According to the arrest report, Rivero contacted the girl via SnapChat to tell him he was there and that's when police arrested him as he tried to leave the parking lot.

Police said after being advised of his rights, Rivero admitted to trying to get the girl to send a nude photo and offered to pay her for it. He also admitted to agreeing to meet the victim at the movies with an intent to kiss her and said all communication was done via Instagram and SnapChat.

Rivero faces charges including use of a child in a sexual performance, lewd and lascivious conduct on a child under 16, using a computer to meet a minor, computer pornography, and possession of drug paraphernalia with an intent to use.

It is unclear if Rivero has an attorney. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms have been commonplace this afternoon for communities east of Interstate 75. These showers and storms are likely to continue across the interior of the state through this evening, before tapering off tonight. Overnight lows in the inland stretches of Florida look to bottom out in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Though cities along the coast have seen a dry Saturday afternoon, there is the potential for some isolated rain or thunder later tonight pushing onshore from the Gulf of Mexico. Temperatures look to cool down into early Sunday morning near 72 degrees at Fort Myers and Port Charlotte with lows near 73 degrees at Naples.

FATHER'S DAY FORECAST

Father's Day Sunday looks a touch warmer with highs in the afternoon near 92 degrees. With more of an easterly wind across the peninsula, we'll look for the risk of showers and thunderstorms to move along with the seabreeze from the Gulf. Though any rain and thunder should remain somewhat isolated in nature, it appears most likely for cities along and east of Interstate 75, though the chance of a few showers or storms moving along the US 41 corridor will need to stay in the forecast.

A more typical June weather pattern appears ready to dominate the forecast for the upcoming work week. Highs look seasonal topping out in the low 90s with nighttime temperatures in the low 70s. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible each of the next several upcoming afternoons, compliments of the seabreeze interaction.

TROPICAL UPDATE

No organized tropical cyclones are currently active in the Atlantic, Carribean or Gulf of Mexico. No development of tropical activity is anticipated in the next five days as well.
