HELLO-ONCAM-PUSH, EANIBOXES

GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME TO NBC-2 NEWS TODAY.

I'M STACEY DEFFENBAUGH.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL OF YOU DADS OUT THERE.

YOUR DAY IS SHAPPING UP TO BE A SUNNY BUT THERE COULD BE SOME RAIN ON THE WAY.

METEOROLOGIST JASON DUNNING IS STANDING BY IN THE WEATHER CENTER WITH MORE ON YOUR FORECAST. Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX CENTER

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

It's vintage summer weather setting up for this Father's Day across Southwest Florida.

Expect a mainly sunny and dry start to the day, but by the mid to late afternoon, the storms will start popping once again.

While today's storms won't be quite as numerous as yesterday, more of the storms should develop or build closer to the coast by the late afternoon and evening. Rain chances, however, will still be a bit higher for inland areas along and east of I-75.

Temperatures will be a touch warmer today as an easterly wind slows down the progression of the sea breeze. Daytime highs will range from 88-94 degrees with the lowest reading expected along the coast and the hot spots deeper inland.

A few storms will linger through the evening hours until we lose enough heating by 9-10 p.m. for the storms to fade away.

For the upcoming week, our afternoon storm pattern continues, but some slightly drier should keep the storm coverage a bit more isolated Monday and Tuesday. With that said, more of the storms will develop closer to the urban corridor since our sea breeze won't move as far inland.

Rain chances will be a touch higher for the second half of the week as moisture levels increase, but even then, storms will hold off until the afternoon and evening.

Temperatures through the week will top out in the low to mid 90s and cool into the mid 70s at night.

The tropics remain quiet, and no development is expected over the next five days. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS: BOTOX & BLADDER-PKG

PKG:

IT'S A NEW WRINKLE ONE THE USE OF BOTOX- BASED ON SUCCESS IN NERVE RELATED BLADDER CONTROL, RESEARCHERS FIND IT MAY REPLACE SURGERY IN DIFFICULT CASES.

DR. HAROLD TSAI/UROLOGIST

RUNS:

7:43 The first line therapy for overactive bladder is medication. There's a second and third line treatment. This is going to compete with some of those.

IT STEMS FROM THE SAME WRINKLE-SMOOTHING AFFECT THAT PARALYZES FACIAL MUSCLES. DOCTORS BELIEVE BOTOX WORKS IN TWO WAYS: BY BLOCKING THE SENSORY EFFECTS FROM THE BRAIN WHICH TELLS THE BODY IT HAS TO GO- AND BLOCKING THE NERVE ENDINGS RESPONSIBLE FOR BLADDER CONTRACTIONS.

DR. HAROLD TSAI/UROLOGIST

RUNS:

:51 It's a neurotoxin and basically it causes paralysis of the muscle. There's a chemical that's released by the nerve ending and this prevents the chemical from being released. Therefore, the nerve cannot conduct the transmission of the nerve signal.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Currently performed as an inpatient procedure- the botox is delivered directly into the bladder. Man or woman- doctor's insert a scope through the urethra, numb the bladder and administer a series of shots.

DR. HAROLD TSAI/UROLOGIST

RUNS:

5:05 We just place the needle into the muscle and we inject equal amount of botox throughout the bladder. The total is what we call 200 units of botox.

STUDIES ARE NOW LOOKING AT REPLACING INJECTIONS WITH ONE INFUSION- EITHER WAY- THE BOTOX SHOULD IRON OUT THEIR PROBLEM.

DR. HAROLD TSAI/UROLOGIST

RUNS:

3:36 We hope to decrease the frequency, urgency, accidents and also increase the bladder capacity that's our hope. So we hope the patients improve in one, all, or some of these symptoms.

AS IN ALL USES OF BOTOX, THE EFFECT IS TEMPORARY AND NEEDS REPEATING. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

CRIME STOPPERS-PKG

As the Captain of the Track Team at Fort Myers High School, Kyle Byrtus was a young

man with the brightest of futures. Armed with a college scholarship and a strong work

ethic, it was clear to everyone who knew him that Kyle would make it far in life. But an

unfortunate twist of fate changed everything. Last August, at age 25, Kyle was murdered

- his remains found in a field in Lehigh Acres.

Spencer Ely - "This is something that somebody did to him. And that's really tough,

knowing that this shouldn't have happened. It didn't need to happen."

Throughout his younger years, Kyle was a friend to so many - someone who could light

up a room and always leave a lasting impression.

Lynne Kreger - "Everyone always talked about his smile. He was always willing to help

someone. He had the scholarship, plus the Bright Futures scholarship, so it wasn't just

athletics. He was a smart young man, too, and graduated with honors."

But those plans for success would quickly turn dim with just one bad choice.

Trish Routte - What's so devastating about Kyle's murder was that he was a young man

who had such a bright future. However when his life drifted off the straight and narrow,

that's when things took a turn for the worse.

Drug addiction quickly consumed Kyle's life - leaving him travelling in the wrong

circles with people who may very well have had a hand in his murder.

Lynne Kreger - "We tried so hard to get him help and at that point in time he just said he

was able to do it on his own."

Now, his family and friends are trying to come to grips with their loss and the lack of

answers as to who is responsible for Kyle's death.

Lynne Kreger - "Not knowing who did this, not knowing how long he was laying in that

field."

And despite the fact that Kyle made some bad choices is definitely no justification for

murder.

Spencer Ely- "Nobody deserves to have their life taken like that. That's the hardest part

for me is wondering what in the world somebody could have done to deserve that - and

there's nothing. There's no answer to that."

Kyle was known to associate with people in the Pine Manor area. In fact shortly after

his murder, posters were hung throughout the community seeking information on the

events that led to this brutal crime. But detectives are still waiting for that one piece of

information that could ensure that justice is served.

Lynne Kreger - "Just make that phone call. It's anonymous. If you know something,

anything, please. We need closure."

For Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, I'm Trish Routte. Spencer Ely, best friend:21 -:29

What they are trying to do is have a continuity between Iraq and Syria. In order to do what? In order to establish a Caliphate, a centralized state governed by Islamic law.

ISIS' RAPID ADVANCE ALARMS THE UNITED STATES.

DEFENSE SECRETARY CHUCK HAGEL ORDERED AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER TO THE REGION. IN CASE U.S. MILITARY IS NEEDED TO PROTECT AMERICANS OR U.S. INTERESTS.

People should remember it was a Sunni group that hated us, hated the west, that attacked us on 9/11, that still hates us and carries these black flags of hatred and that, i think, poses a real threat to the United States.

BUT PRESIDENT OBAMA SAID FRIDAY U.S. TROOPS WON'T BE SENT INTO COMBAT IN IRAQ AND THAT OTHER OPTIONS LIKE AIRSTRIKES ARE BEING EXPLORED.

We're putting forward air controllers and people who can speak Arabic and get a real-time assessment. Otherwise you can't target the air power.

SO FAR ISIS HAS SEIZED CONTROL OF SEVERAL CITIES IN SYRIA AND IRAQ AND THEIR REIGN OF TERROR SHOWS NO SIGNS OF STOPPING.

FORECAST OPEN-CLIP

FORECAST OPEN Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL
