FIRST WEATHER-ANIBOX HTC

FIRST WEATHERStorms chances this evening

Though we have had a relatively quiet day across Southwest Florida so far, the potential for showers or thunderstorms to develop late this afternoon and this evening remains viable. The west coast seabreeze has had difficulty forming today, and with thunderstorms east of the region moving westward, we'll stand the chance for storm development along the coast this evening. Though the activity tonight may remain isolated, it cannot be ruled out.

Temperatures on Tuesday look seasonal, with forecast highs reaching 92 at Fort Myers, 90 at Naples, 91 at Port Charlotte and 93 at LaBelle.

A similar weather pattern looks likely on Tuesday. Easterly wind flow across the Florida peninsula should push any storms that develop on the east coast in our direction, with the potential for more late afternoon and early evening development along the US 41 corridor possible. A wedge of some drier air in the mid levels of the atmosphere may reduce the overall coverage to isolated, but we'll again need to leave in the rain and thunder risk late Tuesday.

For the rest of the week, highs look to reach the low 90s, with isolated to scattered rain chances during the late afternoons for each of the upcoming days. Return to index of stories...

People may be in a situation where it is not appropriate to talk but if you could be in a situation to text 911.

That could make all the difference.

Today collier county sheriff Kevin rambosk announced his agency will be the first in Florida to allow people to text 911 in an emergency.

Rambosk says it would've proved helpful last week when two teens were tied up and robbed in immokalee.

If they were on the verizon network they would now be able to text to our communications center.

But the program comes with a catch-. It's only available to verizon customers right now- in unincorporated collier county and Marco island. Naples is not included.

If you have a service provider like at and t. It will bounce back an error message.

- rambosk says it also can't help a dispatcher locate you. So unless you can be specific and quick. They do prefer you to call 911 I'm an emergency.

ATLEAST ONE OUTSIDE ORGANIZATION HAS BACKED CRIST WITH BILLBOARDS.

laura Weir / 45:29 He's being funded by the little people; we also know that he has major donors and major fund raising going on. 45:37

ACCORDING TO HIS WEBSITE CRIST HAS RAISED $12.7 MILLION DOLLARS CLAIMING A BULK OF THE MONEY CAME FROM DONORS GIVING $100- OR LESS.

COMPARE THAT TO SCOTT'S $100-MILLION.

laura Weir / 48:56 Indeed it looks like Governor Scott has been able to raise more money but when it gets to be August that might not be the case. 49:06

50:27 I think Florida's economy is going to benefit from the amount of money it's going to flood in because of this race and the amount of spending that will go on. 50:35 Return to index of stories...

A VICTORY TODAY FOR GUN CONTROL ADVOCATES.

THE U.S. SUPREME COURT RULED A GUN BUYER MUST SAY WHETHER THEY PLAN TO SELL OR TRANSFER THE WEAPON TO SOMEONE ELSE, EVEN IF THAT PERSON CAN LEGALLY OWN A GUN. Return to index of stories...

SCOTUS GUN SALES-PKG

FOR ANYONE ATTEMPTING TO BUY A GUN,

IT'S A FEDERAL CRIME TO MAKE FALSE STATEMENTS.

THAT COULD KEEP A LICENSED DEALER FROM MAKING SURE THE SALE IS LEGAL.

THE INTENT IS TO KEEP GUNS FROM CRIMINALS, THE MENTALLY ILL, AND OTHERS WHO SHOULDN'T HAVE THEM.

AND IN A FIVE TO FOUR DECISION.

THE SUPREME COURT DETERMINED THAT INCLUDES DISCLOSING AT THE TIME OF SALE, ANY INTENT TO RE-SELL OR TRANSFER THE GUN.

JON LOWY IS A GUN CONTROL ADVOCATE.

"This is a big victory for the American public and it will save lives because

it will enable law enforcement to crack down on gun trafficking and straw

purchasers that supply the criminal market."

A FORMER VIRGINIA POLICE OFFICER HAD CHALLENGED THE LAW AFTER HE GOT IN TROUBLE FOR FALSELY STATING ON THIS GOVERNMENT FORM THAT HE WAS THE ACTUAL GUN BUYER.

WHEN, IN FACT, THE GUN WAS MEANT FOR HIS UNCLE.

THE OFFICER ARGUED THE LAW SHOULDN'T APPLY TO HIM SINCE HIS UNCLE COULD LEGALLY OWN THE WEAPON.

BUT IN THE COURT'S DECISION,

JUSTICE ELENA KAGAN WROTE THAT INTERPRETATION "WOULD UNDERMINE- THE GUN LAW'S CORE PROVISIONS."

ERICH PRATT IS A GUN RIGHTS ADVOCATE.

"Here again we have an example of how this administration is waging

a war against gun owners and gun rights."

PRATT ARGUES THE REGULATION UPHELD TODAY -- WILL DO LITTLE TO PROTECT AMERICANS FROM GUN VIOLENCE. Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Storms chances this evening

THE EMAILS OPPOSE HAVING THE STATE STUDY THE INTERSECTION BECAUSE ONE OPTION THE FDOT IS CONSIDERING IS A FLYOVER - OR OVERPASS AT THE INTERSECTION.

Bob Kull, Bonita Springs

18:29:51 it seems like a waste of taxpayer money to be honest with you. I think the money could be well better spent somewhere else.:56

BOB KULL LIVES A FEW BLOCKS AWAY. HE'S NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE INTERSECTION.

OTHER RESIDENTS AGREE AND SAY A FLYOVER WOULD KILL BUSINESSES ADDING THE WHOLE IDEA SHOULD BE THROWN OUT.

Mayor Ben Nelson, Bonita Springs

18:43:13 there should really be nothing to fear bc if something is as awful as people think it is, it won't make the cut.:19

MAYOR NELSON WANTS THE STUDY - BUT ADMITS MOST OF HIS CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS VOTED TO STOP THE STUDY EARLIER THIS YEAR.
