TONIGHT WE HAVE NEW PICTURES OF THE TWO CHILDREN WHO WERE THE TARGET OF A MASSIVE SEARCH IN ESTERO YESTERDAY.

MISSING CHILDREN LATEST-TC MON, VID IN TC MON

THE TODDLERS DISAPPEARED FROM THEIR TRAILOR IN THE COVERED WAGON MOBILE HOME PARK IN ESTERO.

THE SEARCH LASTED FOR NEARLY 10 HOURS.

THE CHILDREN LOST IN THE BRUSH ON ONE OF THE HOTTEST DAYS OF THE YEAR.

BOTH TODDLERS ARE SAFE TONIGHT, IN A FOSTER HOME.

THEIR PARENTS ARE IN JAIL

TODAY WE UNCOVERED RACHEAL DAVIS, HAS 7 CHILDREN. AND THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES INVESTIGATED HER AT LEAST SIX TIMES IN THE PAST FOR NEGLECT. Return to index of stories...

TOSS TO NICK PKG-trxNATVO, DISS IN PLASMA

nats of chopper

WE START OUR TEAM COVERAGE TONIGHT WITH THE INCREDIBLE STORY OF THE SEARCH TEAMS.

DOZENS OF AGENCIES WORKED IN THE EXTREME HEAT ALL AFTERNOON AND MOST OF THE EVENING TO FIND INNOCENCE AND CASPIAN.

A SPECIAL SEARCH TEAM FOUND THE BOY JUST BEFORE 10 O'CLOCK LAST NIGHT.

NBC-2'S NICK CILETTI SHARES THEIR STORY. Return to index of stories...

MEN WHO RESCUED LITTLE BOY-BNR-PKG

RYAN ARNOLD IS ONE OF THE NEWEST MEMBERS OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA'S URBAN SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM.

SO NEW, IN FACT, HE'D NEVER BEEN ON A SEARCH MISSION.

26:46 -

I was excited to be out there and finally put all that training to use. That's what we do. 26:51

THAT IS. UNTIL LAST NIGHT.

27:27 -

We knew what we needed to do. We grabbed what we needed to grab. And we got set and got out in the field. And it was very quick 27:34

ARNOLD.ALONG WITH DAN MILLER.GLEN VAN BRUNT. AND A LEE COUNTY DEPUTY TREKKED THROUGH THICK BRUSH.HOPING THEY'D FIND 2-YEAR-OLD CASPIAN THOMAS ALIVE.

22:57 -

You prepare yourself for the worst. You try for the best. Luckily last night, we got the best 23:02

FOR THESE GUYS - IT TRULY WAS THE BEST OUTCOME -

THEY WERE THE ONES WHO FINALLY SPOTTED LITTLE CASPIAN.

33:45 -

All those things go through your head and just.wow. It's just one of those things you pray never happens to you or your family. 33:52

VAN BRUNT TAKES US BACK TO THE MOMENT THE TEAM LOCATED CASPIAN IN HIS DIAPER.MOTIONLESS.COVERED IN FLIES.AND DEHYDRATED.

35:38 -

It was a relief once his eyes opened up. He kind of latched on to me. As we took him out and sort of put him on the road, he grabbed a 16oz bottle of water and grabbed a hold of it and started drinking it.

MORE THAN A DOZEN AGENCIES HELPED SEARCH FOR THE CHILDREN.

AND THE MISSION WASN'T EASY.

44:17 -

Insects, snakes oppressive Florida heat needless to say. No water, no nourishment of any shape 44:24

DESPITE THE FACT THAT THEY PUT THEIR OWN LIVES ON THE LINE.

THE GUYS WE SPOKE WITH ARE FAR TOO MODEST TO LABEL THEMSELVES "HEROES."

FOR THEM - IT'S JUST ANOTHER PART OF THE JOB.

29:06 -

I don't think I'm a hero. I was just one of many others that was out there just doing their part 29:11 Return to index of stories...

MEN WHO RESCUED LITTLE BOY-BUBBA

AND BECAUSE OF THE ROUGH TERRAIN - THE USAR CREW HAD A TOUGH TIME GETTING THEIR HEAT-SENSING TECHNOLOGY TO WORK.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT - EVERYDAY FLASHLIGHTS LEAD THEM TO LITTLE CASPIAN.

USAR IS MADE UP OF LOCAL FIREFIGHTERS.LAW ENFORCEMENT.PARAMEDICS.AND CIVILIANS.

I'M TOLD MEMBERS GO THROUGH AT LEAST 450 HOURS OF EXTRA TRAINING - AND LAST NIGHT WAS PROOF THAT TRAINING CAN SAVE LIVES.

LIVE IN THE STUDIO - NICK CILETTI - NBC2 Return to index of stories...

FACTS THAT SURPRISED SMITHSON.

WHAT SMITHSON WORRIES ABOUT IS THAT THIS TIME THE CHILDREN MAY HAVE BEEN TAKEN.

don't foresee him walking or her walking them both that far." 02:07:50

"It needs to be done and as soon as possible."

AS BIG AS THIS CHANNEL LOOKS, MOST LOCAL BOATERS NOW JUST HOW DIFFICULT IT CAN BE TO NAVIGATE.

"It's too shallow we can't get to where we're going and if you wanted to go any place it's pretty difficult."

MARY LOU MACANTEE HAS BEEN BOATING HERE FOR YEARS. SHE SAYS DREDGING HERE IS SOMETHING THAT'S BEEN TALKED ABOUT FOR YEARS. AND SHE'S WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS THE SHALLOW WATER IS CAUSING.

"We need to keep our businesses and keep our businesses open around here "

A LOT OF BOATERS ARE TOO AFRAID TO NAVIGATE TO PLACES LIKE THE FISH TALE MARINA.

THAT'S WHERE ENGINEERS DISCUSSED DELAYS IN THE PROJECT TODAY.

"It's going to take some time."

PROJECTS LIKE THESE CAN CAN COSTLY *QUICKLY*, BUT THERE'S NO ESTIMATE JUST YET - NBC-2 HAS LEARNED THE COUNTY IS WAITING ON A PERMIT THAT WILL NOW ONLY ALLOW FOR DREDGING THIS CHANNEL, BUT TO DREDGE IN THE FUTURE IF ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS OCCUR.

IT COULD BE SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE AN OFFICIAL DREDGING PLAN IS FINALIZED.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

INCREASING STORM CHANCES

It was another brutally hot and humid day across the entire area, with highs pushing into the mid 90s area wide. A few storms did develop today, and this activity will diminish this evening as temps only fall into the 80s. Expect a very humid overnight, with warm lows in the mid to upper 70s.

Rain and storm chances will be increasing starting Thursday. More moisture will work into the area, bringing better chance for PM showers and storms across the area. Highs on Thursday will be in the low to mid 90s.

Even more moisture will push in on Friday, again increasing rain and storm chances. The best chance for activity will be in the afternoon hours, with temps in the low 90s.

The more typical rainy season weather pattern continues for the weekend. Expect plenty of morning sun with PM showers and storms developing. Highs both Saturday and Sunday will be in the low 90s.

The PM rain and storm chances continue into next week, with temps next week holding in the low 90s.

TROPICAL UPDATE

We are still nice and quiet in the tropics as we move toward the end of June. No major activity is expected over the next 5 days. Return to index of stories...
