THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

STORMS IN THE AFTERNOON

Showers and storms will be a pretty good bet across much of Southwest Florida this afternoon, as storms bubble up in the early PM hours. It will be hot and humid before the storms arrive, with temps holding in the low to mid 90s.

Some will be on the stronger side with gusty winds, heavy downpours and deadly lightning. Most of the activity should diminish as we head into the late evening time frame.

Saturday & Sunday will be very similar. Highs both days look to top out in the low 90s and it will be humid. Scattered storms will be predominately in the afternoon with some carrying into the overnight.

More PM showers and storms will be likely as move into next week, with a slightly better chance of activity Monday and Tuesday.

Tropical Update

Nothing to concerning to update about right now but there is an area of interest off the southeastern coastline. A PREMATURE BIRTH IS NOT THE ARRIVAL MOST PREGNANT MOMS EXPECT BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN THEIR BABIES CAN'T GET NUTRITION THE WAY NATURE INTENDED.

And some ladies have a hard time attaching to a pump rather than their child, but there are little suggestions, little things that I work with the mom so that she can feel comfortable using this equipment to provide milk for her baby.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

All babies benefit from breast milk. But for preemies, it's even more important. Premature babies are at greater risk for having health problems early in life, including feeding issues, respiratory problems and infection.

RHONDA HARPER/CERTIFIED LACTATION CONSULTANT

RUNS:

2:30 Those issues are decreased significantly with the breast milk.

BREAST MILK IS EASIER FOR PREEMIES TO DIGEST AND OFFERS CONCENTRATED IMMUNITIES. RHONDA HARPER IS ALSO A CERTIFIED LACTATION CONSULTANT, WORKING WITH NEW PARENTS.

Meredith: Some people say that he's a cowboy and really should not be allowed to do this.

Vacanti: I do believe he's in the gray zone. The worry I had, and still have is how many studies have been done

TONIGHT NBC NEWS WILL AIR "A LEAP OF FAITH: A MEREDITH VIEIRA SPECIAL."

THE SPECIAL REPORT TAKES VIEWERS INSIDE THE FRONT LINES OF AN EMERGING MEDICAL BREAK THROUGH THAT IS BOTH EXPERIMENTAL AND CONTROVERSIAL -- BUT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO SAVE LIVES.

MEREDITH VIEIRA JOINS US LIVE ON THE NEWS AT FOUR WITH A PREVIEW. Return to index of stories...

experimental and controversial -- but has the potential to save billions of lives. "A Leap of Faith" provides an exclusive look inside the emotional journey of Dr. Paolo Macchiarini, his patients, and their families as he attempts to revolutionize the way we treat even the most deadly diseases.

Meredith Vieira closely follows the work of Dr. Macchiarini, who is at the forefront of the field of regenerative medicine. Using stem cells from a patient's own body to grow new organs in a lab, regenerative medicine could potentially eliminate the need for donor organs in the future. Macchiarini is the only doctor in the world who performs transplants with completely artificial, bio-engineered organs. His work has been criticized for being experimental and risky, but he is willing to take chances to help his patients. Dr. Macchiarini tells Vieira, "You see a patient and this patient has no other alternatives. And he will die very, very soon. As a human, and as a doctor, are we allowed to say no? I don't think so."

Meredith Vieira shares the powerful, at times heartbreaking stories of patients like a single dad from Baltimore who was being suffocated by an inoperable tumor; a toddler from South Korea who had spent her entire life in the hospital, unable to breathe on her own; and a former Russian dancer who was left with a gaping hole in her throat after a devastating car accident. "A Leap of Faith" is about the brave pioneers who are willing to take chances in the name of science. Return to index of stories...

More PM showers and storms will be likely as move into next week, with a slightly better chance of activity Monday and Tuesday.

Tropical Update

Nothing to concerning to update about right now but there is an area of interest off the southeastern coastline. A very weak disturbance is trying to get going a few hundred miles east of the Bahamas. This disturbance is still very disorganized and the likelihood of development into anything is very low, if not 0%. Will continue to monitor. Return to index of stories...

"Hello Minneapolis!"

"I'll be honest, you've got a party on their other side whose only rationale or motivation seems to be opposing me, but despite all that we're making progress."

AND WHITE HOUSE EFFORTS TO GET AROUND THE GRIDLOCK IN CONGRESS SUFFERED A BIG SETBACK THURSDAY WITH THE SUPREME COURT'S UNANIMOUS RULING AGAINST THE ADMINISTRATION ON RECESS APPOINTMENTS.

"The decision today, it's a big defeat for President Obama."

THE JUSTICES SIDED WITH CONGRESS -- SAYING THAT WHILE THE CONSTITUTION ALLOWS THE PRESIDENT TO FILL JOBS TEMPORARILY DURING A RECESS-- WITHOUT CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL -- HE CAN'T FILL TOP GOVERNMENT JOBS WHEN THE SENATE SAYS ITS IN SESSION.

"The Senate will come to order."

TO BLOCK THESE APPOINTMENTS, REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN GAVELING THE SENATE IN AND OUT EVERY THREE DAYS DURING BREAKS -- CONDUCTING NO LEGISLATIVE BUSINESS.

THE ADMINISTRATION ARGUED THESE WEREN'T REALLY SESSIONS. THE COURT DISAGREED.

JUSTICE STEPHEN BREYER SAYING,"We hold that the Senate is in session, and not in recess, when the Senate says that it is in session."

REPUBLICANS APPLAUDED THE DECISION.

"It represents a clear, clear rebuke to the president's brazen power grab - a power grab I was proud to lead the effort against."

"President Obama's unconstitutional recess appointments are part of a pattern in which he thinks if he cannot otherwise advance his agenda he can unilaterally thwart the law."

THEY HAVE LONG ACCUSED THE WHITE HOUSE OF OVERREACH -- HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER IS EVEN THREATENING TO SUE THE PRESIDENT OVER HIS USE OF EXECUTIVE ACTION.

THE WHITE HOUSE SAYS PRESIDENT OBAMA IS USING HIS PEN AND HIS PHONE TO GET AROUND THE PARTISAN OBSTRUCTIONISM ON CAPITOL HILL.
