6:52 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

The final weekend of June will be quite characteristic of Southwest Florida weather for this time of year. Expect plenty of sun and heat, followed by those afternoon and evening storms.

Like the last couple of days, a few of today's storms may be quite intense, producing frequent lightning, torrential rain, and gusty winds. Storm movement today will be from the northeast toward the southwest.

Before the storms develop, plan on seeing plenty of sunshine and heat as temperatures climb back into the low to mid 90s by the afternoon.

Our winds will be northeasterly today, coming in at 5-10 mph.

We'll see another episode of afternoon storms Sunday with perhaps a slightly greater areal coverage than today.

Heading into the upcoming week, forecast models suggest we stay in a pretty active afternoon storm pattern. Afternoon temperatures will continue to climb into the low to mid 90s each day with overnight lows dropping into the mid 70s.

Tropical Update

The National Hurricane Center is still keeping an eye on a system in the Carolinas that will try and move into the Atlantic over the weekend. Some forecast models indicate this system could strengthen a little as we move into next week. The hurricane center has a 30% chance of development over the next 5 days.
