WOULD YOU JUST LOOK AT THAT FACE.

WE DON'T KNOW HER NAME BUT WE DO KNOW HER STORY.

THE SEVEN TO TEN MONTH OLD BABY GIRL DITCHED ON THE SUBWAY.

AS A MOTHER OF FOUR, KIMBERLY'S RESPONSE TO HEARING THE NEWS IS A COMBINATION OF SHOCK BUT ALSO COMPASSION FOR THE WOMAN POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR.

"I teach child birth classes so I deal a lot with post-partum depression which can actually extend up to two years after the birth of your child so I have a lot of compassion for her."

AT THIS POINT NO ONE KNOWS WHY.

BUT POLICE SAY AROUND NOON A WOMAN IN HER 20'S OR 30'S ROLLED THE LITTLE GIRL IN A STROLLER OFF A NORTHBOUND NUMBER ONE TRAIN AT THE COLUMBUS CIRCLE STATION.

SHE THEN TURNED AROUND AND GOT BACK ON THE TRAIN, LEAVING THE GIRL ALL ALONE

"Or at least drop them off at a police station or something but to leave a kid on a train, who does that."

SOMEONE WALKING ALONG THE CROWDED PLATFORM SAW WHAT HAPPENED AND WAITED WITH THE GIRL FOR TWENTY MINUTES.

WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO COME BACK, WHEN THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN, THE WITNESS CALLED POLICE.

"We don't know exactly what happened, maybe she's just thinking somehow this baby will find a better place to be, maybe she's not fit."

THE BABY GIRL IS IN GOOD CONDITION AND NOW IN PROTECTIVE CUSTODY.

POLICE ARE HOPING SOMEONE WILL RECOGNIZE HER OR THE STROLLER SHE WAS RIDING IN.

"She didn't do any damage to the child, worst case scenario she could have really hurt herself or her child, in a way that is irreparable, this is reparable." Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

!!!!NEED WX ANCHOR CG!!!!!

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

SCATTERED DOWNPOURS TODAY

Steering winds will be from the south-southwest again today, leading to a similar setup to what we had yesterday. There will be a few showers, even a couple of storms, along the coastline early this morning. More activity will develop as we go through the morning to midday time frame. As we go from midday toward afternoon, the rain will shift from the coast to the inland areas. Then into the evening some of the lingering shower and storm activity could come back toward the highway 41 corridor. Highs this afternoon will be held in the mid 80s to near 90 degrees with plenty of cloud cover along with the downpours.

For tomorrow, we'll see another day of scattered storms that could once again get that early start. Then for the later part of the week, there will be a few scattered afternoon storms each day. That will actually be a bit more like our typical rainy season pattern. Highs through the week will rebound into the low 90s, which is pretty seasonal for Southwest Florida.

In the tropics, there are no areas of concern at this time and development in not likely within the next 5 days. Return to index of stories...

IT'S VACATION SEASON.

SUMMER SURPRISES-PKG

SUMMERTIME AND THE LIVING IS EASY. BUT SOMETIMES, UNEXPECTED HAZARDS, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS YOU'RE UNFAMILIAR WITH CAN RUIN A VACATION, IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL.

WHEN GOING TO A NEW BEACH, ALWAYS MAKE SURE THERE'S A LIFEGUARD ON DUTY. IF WATERS ARE ROUGH, THE LIFEGUARD WILL KNOW AND IN SOME CASES A BEACH WILL BE CLOSED IF ITS TOO DANGEROUS. SO EVEN THOUGH THE OCEAN MAY LOOK INVITING, IT'S BEST TO APPROACH IT WITH CAUTION.

KNOW THE WILDLIFE. IF YOU LIKE TO HIT THE LINKS, KNOW YOUR TERRITORY. MOST GOLFERS WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM GOING AFTER THEIR BALL IF IT LANDED IN THE WOODS OR THE WATER'S EDGE, BUT IN SOME CASES, ALLIGATORS OR SNAKES COULD BE LURKING, SO ASK THE ATTENDANTS AT THE CLUBHOUSE, WHAT SORT OF ANIMALS HANG OUT ON THE COURSE.

IF YOU'RE CAMPING, MAKE SURE YOU DON'T LET YOUR CHILDREN OR PETS WANDER. BEARS AND OTHER ANIMALS MAY BE SHARING THE WOODS WITH YOU.

IF YOU'RE THE HIKING SORT, KNOW THE TRAIL BEFORE YOU GO. IF YOU'RE IN A PARK ASK THE RANGERS OR STAFF ABOUT THE LENGTH AND DESTINATION OF THE TRAILS. CHECK TO SEE IF THERE MIGHT BE WATER TO DRINK ALONG THE WAY AND IF NOT TAKE SOME FOR THE TRIP. ALSO, TRY TO STAY ON OR CLOSE TO THE PATH, ESPECIALLY IF THE TERRITORY IS NEW TO YOU.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER OBEY ANY WARNING SIGNS YOU COME ACROSS. THEY ARE THERE FOR A PURPOSE.

FOR TODAY'S HEALTH MINUTE, I'M HOLLY FIRFER. Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX WALL

!!!NEED WX ANCHOR CG!!!

EXPERTS SAY IN MANY CASES, THEIR MONEY COULD BE BETTER SPENT. THE ESTIMATED 40% OF THE POPULATION CURRENTLY TAKING MULTIVITAMINS, MAY BE GETTING LITTLE IN RETURN.

DR. SAL LACAGNINA/VP HEALTH & WELLNESS

RUNS:

6:39 Multivitamins are a shotgun approach. You're just taking all of the vitamins, but you really don't have a clue what you're really supposed to be taking.

AND MEGA-DOSES OF SPECIFIC VITAMINS CAN BE DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS. WHILE WATER-SOLUBLE ONES LIKE B AND C WILL FLUSH THROUGH THE BODY. OTHERS STICK AROUND.

DR. SAL LACAGNINA/VP HEALTH & WELLNESS

RUNS:

3:37 When you're looking at the fat-soluble vitamins, A, D, E, and K, over a long time period, if you're taking in too much, it actually stays in your system. And can become toxic.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

When you say 'supplements' you've said a mouthful. They include not only vitamins, but minerals and antioxidants. The term refers to 'adding' or 'supplementing' them into your diet. Calcium is the most notable. And doctors find it might be better as a supplement.

DR. SAL LACAGNINA/VP HEALTH & WELLNESS

RUNS:

1:30 We've all been taught over the years that you have to have dairy products to get your calcium. All you really need to do is take a calcium supplement. You don't need to be getting calcium from milk or cheese or dairy products because what you're getting in addition is all of the extra fat.

BEING EDUCATED AND PAYING ATTENTION TO YOUR BODY MAY BE YOUR BEST GUIDE.
