WASHINGTON MARIJUANA SALES-PKG

Deb Greene has good food by her side, a good book in hand.

"I didn't realize I would be the very first one."

.now she's just waiting for some good pot.

"Now you get good stuff. You get it legally."

And Cannabis City is scheduled to be the first Seattle store to sell the recreational marijuana.

An issue all pot shops face is security -- it's a subject John Davis knows well.

"We have been open here for more than three years."

He is the CEO of the medical marijuana business, Northwest Patient Resource Center.

"It is built like a bank on steroids."

He says in order to protect the people working here, the pot, and the profits several layers of security are needed. starting with circuits on the ceiling.

"You can't cut in from above, you can't tunnel in from below. You'll never hit the motion detectors. The system will pick you up before you ever manage to get inside."

14-high definition, infrared cameras constantly rolling are also part of his operation.

"This wall is demolition resistant."

The glass is bullet resistant. He says that plus panic alarms and doors with heavy duty locks are how he deals with cannabis in an all cash environment.

"Even if you don't keep it on site people are going to have the idea that you do, so make sure you pay attention to security because the threat of robbery is real."

That's what working in the medical marijuana industry has taught him.

"I think they have paved the way for this, I think lessons have been learned."

.and buyers like Deb appreciate it. Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

SCATTERED DOWNPOURS TODAY

Steering winds will be from the south-southwest again today, leading to a similar setup to what we had yesterday. There will be a few showers, even a couple of storms, along the coastline early this morning. More activity will develop as we go through the morning to midday time frame. As we go from midday toward afternoon, the rain will shift from the coast to the inland areas. Then into the evening some of the lingering shower and storm activity could come back toward the highway 41 corridor. Highs this afternoon will be held in the mid 80s to near 90 degrees with plenty of cloud cover along with the downpours.

For tomorrow, we'll see another day of scattered storms that could once again get that early start. Then for the later part of the week, there will be a few scattered afternoon storms each day. That will actually be a bit more like our typical rainy season pattern. Highs through the week will rebound into the low 90s, which is pretty seasonal for Southwest Florida.

In the tropics, there are no areas of concern at this time and development in not likely within the next 5 days.

Return to index of stories...

WOULD YOU JUST LOOK AT THAT FACE.

WE DON'T KNOW HER NAME BUT WE DO KNOW HER STORY.

THE SEVEN TO TEN MONTH OLD BABY GIRL DITCHED ON THE SUBWAY.

AS A MOTHER OF FOUR, KIMBERLY'S RESPONSE TO HEARING THE NEWS IS A COMBINATION OF SHOCK BUT ALSO COMPASSION FOR THE WOMAN POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR.

"I teach child birth classes so I deal a lot with post-partum depression which can actually extend up to two years after the birth of your child so I have a lot of compassion for her."

AT THIS POINT NO ONE KNOWS WHY.

BUT POLICE SAY AROUND NOON A WOMAN IN HER 20'S OR 30'S ROLLED THE LITTLE GIRL IN A STROLLER OFF A NORTHBOUND NUMBER ONE TRAIN AT THE COLUMBUS CIRCLE STATION.

SHE THEN TURNED AROUND AND GOT BACK ON THE TRAIN, LEAVING THE GIRL ALL ALONE

"Or at least drop them off at a police station or something but to leave a kid on a train, who does that."

SOMEONE WALKING ALONG THE CROWDED PLATFORM SAW WHAT HAPPENED AND WAITED WITH THE GIRL FOR TWENTY MINUTES.

WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO COME BACK, WHEN THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN, THE WITNESS CALLED POLICE.

"We don't know exactly what happened, maybe she's just thinking somehow this baby will find a better place to be, maybe she's not fit."

THE BABY GIRL IS IN GOOD CONDITION AND NOW IN PROTECTIVE CUSTODY.

POLICE ARE HOPING SOMEONE WILL RECOGNIZE HER OR THE STROLLER SHE WAS RIDING IN.

"She didn't do any damage to the child, worst case scenario she could have really hurt herself or her child, in a way that is irreparable, this is reparable." Return to index of stories...
