FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

AFTERNOON STORMS

Our typical July weather continues across southwest Florida. For the next several days we will be tracking hot and humid weather with afternoon thunderstorms each day. Overnight lows will drop to the mid 70's and daytime highs will be in the lower 90's. Again - pretty typical weather for July. As we saw today, some areas of southwest Florida will end up with very heavy rain on the order of an inch or more while other places stay dry. The scattered/isolated nature of thunderstorm development this time of year will be very evident through the weekend.

Boating weather looks pretty good through the 7 day forecast period. In general, skies will be partly cloudy and afternoon storms will tend to drift back toward the beaches toward sunset. Winds will be fairly light during the day and an afternoon sea breeze will set up. The Gulf of Mexico water temperature is at 87 degrees today.

The tropics remain quiet and no storms are expected to develop for the next 5 to 7 days. Return to index of stories...

AN ESTIMATED 15 PERCENT OF STROKES ARE A RESULT OF A HEART CONDITION COMMONLY CALLED A-FIB.

AMY OSHIER REPORTS IN TODAYS HEALTH MATTERS. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS-PKG

NOT QUITE A TICKING TIME BOMB- BUT AN ESTIMATED 2.7 MILLION AMERICANS ARE RISKING THEIR HEALTH BECAUSE OF A FAULTY TICKER. AN IRREGULAR HEART BEAT CALLED ATRIAL FIBRILLATION-

DR. RICHARD CHAZAL/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

18: A-fib or atrial fibrillation is an irregular heart rhythm where the upper chambers of the heart actually quiver rather than contracting in an organized fashion.

THE HEART BEING OUT OF RHYTHM, DRAMATICALLY INCREASES THE RISK OF STROKE- APPROXIMATELY FIVE TIMES HIGHER THAN THE GENERAL POPULATION.

DR. RICHARD CHAZAL/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

:42: The problem with atrial fibrillation is really small blood clots can form inside the heart. If the blood clot leaves the heart the first two blood vessels that exit from the heart actually go to the brain. And so there is a risk that a stroke could ensue.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

People with Afib frequently feel a fluttering heart, without knowing the cause or seriousness. As with many health conditions, the risk of Afib goes up with age. Fewer than one in every 100 people in their 50s has it. Compared to 10 out of every 100 in their 80s. When combined with other conditions- the stroke risk increases.

DR. RICHARD CHAZAL/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

1:09 A number of other contributing factors age, the presence of diabetes, a prior stroke, high blood pressure, gender renders some risk. Actually women are slightly higher risk than men.

THE BLOOD THINNER WARFARIN IS OFTEN PRESCRIBED. IT REDUCES STROKE RISK BY UP TO 65 PERCENT. THOUGH PATIENTS MUST BE CLOSELY MONITORED.

DR. RICHARD CHAZAL/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

5:11 The bottom line is, one must consult his or her physician to make certain there's a careful analysis of the risk and the benefit in terms of therapy.

SO IF YOUR HEART IS OFF-BEAT, TAKE IT AS A SIGN TO TUNE INTO YOUR HEALTH. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

BUT CLOTHING DESIGNER DAVID PECK SAYS. THESE DAYS. **OUTLET** STORE MERCHANDISE IS VERY DIFFERENT.

"Now most of the clothing that you find in outlets is made just for the outlets. It's usually not as good of quality."

GUESS. ANN TAYLOR. COACH. BANANA REPUBLIC. AND COUNTLESS OTHER RETAILERS. MOST PRODUCTS SOLD IN THEIR OUTLET STORES. WERE NEVER SOLD IN THEIR REGULAR RETAIL STORES.

"Are these retailers making knock-offs of their own products?"

"Yes- they're actually making versions of it."

CLOTHING DESIGNER DAVID DANG.

"In order to actually achieve the price point, you really do have to alter the garment a little bit."

"They do that with less expensive zippers and hardware. but the problem comes when retailers try to pass off these lower quality goods. as seconds from their high-end stores."

EARLIER THIS YEAR. FOUR LAWMAKERS ASKED THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION. TO INVESTIGATE PRICING PRACTICES AT OUTLET STORES. CLAIMING RETAILERS MAKE THE CHEAPER OUTLET GOODS. BUT ATTACH HIGH-PRICE TAG BEFORE DISCOUNTING THEM. TO MAKE CUSTOMERS BELIEVE THEY'RE REALLY GETTING A BARGAIN.

ST. PETERSBURG -- Four people were arrested and almost 20 were kicked out after a violent incident at Sunday's Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer game at Al Lang Stadium.

According to St. Petersburg police, firefighters were called to the stadium after a report of a fire in the stands during the game.

Police said problems began when two busloads of fans of the visiting team, Orlando City, arrived at the stadium. Officials said many of those fans were intoxicated.

Arguments and fights with Rowdies' fans followed. At some point, police said smoke bombs were set off in the stands.

Police said Orlando fan Charles Tolman hit an officer in the stomach with a team flag. Also, Stephen Marva faces battery on a law enforcement officer after he shoved a police officer to join a fight, authorities said.

Two other visiting fans also were arrested. There were no serious injuries reported.

According to Rowdies' owner Bill Edwards, extra security personnel were on hand Sunday because Orlando fans have caused problems in the past.

Edwards said his team won't play Orlando again until the fan base can behave better.

The Orlando City team said it had no official comment, but did say this was not a recurring event with fans.

Disney, which owns the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex where the Orlando City temporarily play, say they have not had any arrests, just complaints about language. Return to index of stories...
